《The All Being》Chapter 15 - A Class

“Three months, then we have a mission to complete.” Simon said before leaving through the front door.
“Wonderful! Now, I don’t know about you Salem but me and Nomi do need to sleep. I don’t care what you do while we sleep but please don’t get us killed or destroy the house.” Maria told me before she went up the stairs and Nomi went down a hallway.
Hm, what should I do? I suppose I have three options, explore the city, train skills, or do nothing.
I don’t want to just wait so doing nothing’s out. I think I’ve explored most of the important parts so I’m left with training skills. That’s not difficult but I have no clue what skill to focus on. I know Simon said I should focus on [Stealth] and [Quiet Casting] more but I don’t know what to do with them and I don’t feel like they suit me.
Hmm, now that I think about it, there is a fourth option. I can try and acquire a Class or Job. They aren’t on my Profile normally but I might be able to get one if I use [Self Reality] to become a Half-Elf again. Perhaps figuring out how Classes and Jobs work will help me figure out some other things about the System. I still wonder what exactly happened during my Evolution.
Anyways, first thing’s first, I need to become a Half-Elf.
[Self Reality]
Alright, now if I look at my Profile it should have a section for Job, Class, and one for Profession.
Name: Salem
Titles: Fate Bender, Lone Seeker of Knowledge, Creator, Above Terror, Simon’s Companion, Merciless Mage
Class: None
Job: None
Profession: None
Level: 15
Race: Half-Elf
Age: 8 months

Stat Points (StP): 0
Vitality: 29
Strength: 25
Intelligence: 180 (+3)
Wisdom: 150 (+3)
Agility: 34
Dexterity: 30
Skill Points (SkP): 1
Skills: Identify Lv. 6, Inspect Lv. 4, Ancient Enchanting Lv. 3, Lava Ball Lv. 3, Earth Magic Lv. 2, Earth Mana Manipulation Lv. 1, Lesser Illusion of a Spell Lv. 2, Stealth Lv. 1, Danger Sense Lv. 1, Quiet Casting Lv. 1, Mana Efficiency Lv. 2, Mana Absorption Lv. 2, Basic Communication Lv. 3, Magic Resistance Lv. 1
Created Skills: Assimilate Self Lv. 3, Dense Earthen Spear Barrage Lv. 1

Racial Skills: Shift Form, Physical Mana Manipulation Lv. 3, Reality Sight Lv. 1, Lesser Mana Affinity Lv. 1
Class Skills: N/A
Job Skills: N/A

Hmm? Interesting, I kept my original Racial Skills but gained [Lesser Mana Affinity]. I assume that’s the Racial Skill of Half-Elves. I suppose this is part of copying all of the positives of a race.

As for other things, I gained fifty points of Wisdom and Intelligence and my level changed from five to fifteen, I assume that’s for my evolution.
Now that’s part of what I needed to do, the next part is actually acquiring a Class and Job.
According to the various books and some of the information Simon gave me, there isn’t a specific way to get a Class or a Job, you just need to fulfill a condition. This can be anything from accepting to study under a person who already had the Class or Job to finding a spatial rift and closing it, Simon didn’t explain what a spatial rift was but it sounded dangerous.
The only thing that’s guaranteed is that the Class or Job corresponds to what actions you take. Now then, what kind of Class do I want? I don’t need a Job right now as they are related to crafting things which I cannot do for the time being.
Hm, in the library there were a lot of books about things called Special Classes or Hidden Classes. These classes were either extremely special in one way, such as removing all movement from the class owner but giving them the ability to see the future, or much better than other regular Classes. I wouldn’t mind one of those classes but I have no clue how to get one, usually they require a much more difficult task than regular Classes.
If a regular Class needs you to train in a school specially made for knights then a Hidden Class needs you to slay every type of dragon.
Now that I think about it, closing a spatial rift probably gives a Hidden Class. Anyways, what can I do for a Class?
A normal Class is too simple and won’t allow me to learn much while a Hidden Class is completely random as to how you’ll get it. Should I try and get a Special Class?
Special Classes are not only special in their effects, but also their requirements. If a regular Class has a simple requirement for simple effects and a Hidden Class has difficult and mysterious requirements for powerful and mysterious effects then a Special Class is entirely a gamble.
You could collect fifty frogs as pets and gain a Special Class that can summon frogs. If you level up enough then these frogs might become frog dragons, if those even exist, or your Special Class could become weaker and you’d only be able to summon a single normal frog.
If someone else did the same thing then they might get a Special Class that’s completely different such as one that can remove all moisture from anything nearby.

More simply, regular Classes have simple requirements and strictly follow what you have done to get them meaning you are unable to become a god for going to a Knight academy and becoming a Knight Class.
Hidden Classes are difficult to acquire and can ignore some of the connection between the actions and the actual Class. This would be something like taming a dragon and acquiring a Class that can easily kill dragons, there is a connection but it isn’t very strict.
Special Classes can have the simplest requirements or the most difficult and have the tiniest connection between actions and the actual Class. According to the books I read there has been some speculation that it is possible to ascend to divinity at level one with a Special Class. There haven’t been any successful attempts however.
So I have three options, a regular Class that won’t let me learn much, a Hidden Class that would let me learn a lot more but has very difficult requirements I probably cannot fulfill, and a Special Class which is entirely random but also the type that would most likely allow me to learn the most.
The main issue is that I don’t know how to get a Class as the only somewhat consistent type to get isn’t the one I want.
There was a book I read that said Classes were the representation of someone’s personality and experiences. If you wanted to know what someone is like then their Class tells you the most information, of course, this isn’t always accurate.
Does that mean that I could get a Class just by doing what I normally do? Hm, well at the very least I’m going to need to go explore the city again. That’s not terrible I suppose, it just might not give me much knowledge.
So I headed out the door and into the city again.
*****
I haven’t done much except walk around but I’ve seen some interesting things. It seems like people are much happier when they buy food from the street. Whenever I look into a restaurant, the people inside don’t look as happy as the people on the street.
What else is there? Hm, ah, yes, there seems to be a lot more guards than I remember. When I was walking around with Simon there were only a few but now there’s at least four on every street.
Now that I think about it, isn’t there supposed to be a punishment for leaving when I’m not supposed to? I think that I wasn’t supposed to leave the library but I did so why isn’t there a punishment? Hmm, oh well, unimportant things can be left for later.
I wonder what this food tastes like. I wonder what food in general tastes like. I’ve never eaten anything before due to not needing to as a result of being made of mana, I think.
Thinking about this I bought what was called a sandwich from a nearby merchant. I know it was a sandwich because there were two words above the store that read, “Sandwich Shop”.
The sandwich tasted… I don’t know. I think it tasted good but I’d never had anything before so I had nothing to compare it to.
So to get things to compare it to I got more food. There were all sorts of foods that I didn’t know the names of at all.
At the end of my eating I could make a decision. The sandwich tasted the best.
Oddly, almost all of the merchants who I got food from didn’t look happy when I went to them or left. The only one that did look happy was the sandwich merchant.
“Stop. You’ve broken the law. As you are a noble you only need to pay a fine. Please hand over three gold coins.” A guard walked over to me and said.
Coins? Those are currency. I have no currency. What law did I break anyways?
“I have no coins.” I told the guard using the strange thing known as speaking.
“Oh, a poverty-stricken noble? Explains why you’re taking food and not paying. If you can’t pay then you’re going to the dungeon.”
You have to pay for food? Why? I was just trying to learn more.
Special Class acquired: Silent Secret Observer
Description: Due to your pure pursuit of knowledge, your unwillingness to take action, and your lack of social skills, you have gained the Special Class “Silent Secret Observer”.
Effects: Grants increased effectiveness of Skills that use your eyes, grants far superior eyesight, grants increased effectiveness to Skills that involve stealth, and removes all sound you make whether it be from moving or from speaking. These effects only apply while [Silence] is active. While [Silence] is inactive you gain penalties to everything.
Well, there’s my Class but now there’s an issue. I do not want to go to the dungeon, it is boring.
“No.” I said and ran back towards Maria’s house as my objective was complete.
“Wha… WAIT, STOP!” The guard shouted as he ran after me.
