《Gamer》Chapter 8 - Escaping

I had a entire draft written out where Jon fails to smash the door down fast enough.
However for reasons, it was a failure and I had to drop it after almost finishing the draft. The direction the draft took is not the same direction that this story will take.
You can read it here or if that fails, here
Should be worth noting that this story turns violent.
------------------
Summoning my strength, I swung my heavy club at the wooden door. With a loud crack, the club slammed into the centre of the door. Shuddering, the door started to tilt as the hinges gave way, the screws grinding free of dry concrete. Gleeful to see the damage I had wrought, I readied my club again. With another great swing, I bashed the centre of the door again with a loud crack. With the remaining hinges giving up the fight, the door soared through the air and impacted with the ground with a loud crash. Looking at my handiwork in the light, I was proud to see the large craters in the door. Spotting movement, I looked up to see a guard rising from a chair, hand rising towards my face while clenching a can.
Recognising the pepper spray, I swore and jumped back inside the room. 'Sssssffffffffffttttt'. I caught a whiff of the toxic mixture from beside the doorway and coughed. Knowing he would not stop until I was unable to move, I took a chance and threw it blindly through the open doorway, hoping it would hit him.
I heard a loud grunt from the guard and a clatter as my weapon hit the ground. Tightly squeezing my eyes and mouth closed, I ran from the room into the mist of pepper spray. Even then, it burned my nose and irritated my skin. Passing through, I opened my eyes only to hiss in unexpected pain from the trace amounts that remained. Through tears I could see the man lying on the ground, struggling to sit up. With tears blurring my vision I ran to my club and grabbed it off the floor. Holding it in a threatening stance I faced the guard, only to see him start whispering something into a white crystal in his hand. Unwilling to allow him to finish, I swung my club at his head to knock him out, but as if in slow motion, I heard a audible crunch as the club hit his head.
Critical hit!

Oh my god.
Lifting my club away from the body, blood dripped from my club as the smell filled the air. I had made a serious mistake.. I just couldn't see this being resolved peacefully.
Feeling nauseous I turned away and leaned against the wall and took deep breaths, willing myself to calm down. Eventually I stopped shaking and my legs no longer felt like noodles. Feeling much more calm and in control, I resolutely ignored the body as I looked at the windows floating in front of me. But then I cursed my bad luck.

For killing a Boligian Outpost guard, you have declared war on the Boligian Empire
That's just great.
With my stomach having settled, I exited the room and looked both directions. The corridors looked to the same to me and I was unable to remember which direction I had came from. So I picked the left corridor and started walking. Less than a minute later, having randomly picked corridors and directions I encountered someone. Seeing me, he raised his handgun at me. Noticing it, I felt a spike of fear. This crap surely couldn't be happening. His arm tensed and I immediately dodged to the side as the gun roared. Feeling no sudden pain of a bullet, I quickly ran into a convenient corridor beside me, but before me stretched a long empty corridor with no cover, nowhere to hide. Resolving myself, I readied my club and took a stance beside the wall, ready for the guard to turn the corner.
No way was I going to die here.
I saw the black muzzle of the gun poke out and slammed my club down. With no time to react, he screeched as his hand was pulverized and forced downwards against the overwhelming might of the club. The mangled gun slammed against the floor and I noticed a few fingers still holding on.. Unwilling to continue looking at it, I turned my attention back to the guard as he yelled in agony and held his bloody hand against his chest. With fear in his eyes, he looked at me as I held my club in the space between us. Unwilling to kill again, I turned away and started running. Only to feel sudden pinpricks in my back before sudden electrocuting pain shot through me. Writhing on agony, I barely noticed a window popup before me.
Taser effect applied.
Every second, you are given 3 seconds of stun and 2 damage
Writing in agony, it felt like forever before the pain finally stopped. Lying there gasping, I was unable to move my body as another window floated before me.
Stunned for 64 seconds
With my body lying incapacitated on the ground, I heard the guard curse and groan behind me as he walked up to me. Though my limbs were paralysed, I could still feel the impact of his steel capped boots kicking my ribs and between his wheezes of pain, he gasped out "I'm going to bloody kill you" as he kicked me again and again.
My resolve hardened, I was definitely not going to die here. I may have started it, but they didn't look like they wanted to peacefully end this. Enduring the pain, I lay there biding my time as the stun status steadily counted down, windows popping up at every kick with messages of -1 HP and -2 HP.
Finally, the stun wore off and I could move my limbs. Not wasting any time, I grabbed his foot as he was about to kick me again and pulled him down. Rolling on top of him, I grabbed his neck and started squeezing. Wheezing, his face turned a dark red as he frantically tried hitting me and attempting to knock me off. But his attacks were ineffective as I applied steady pressure to his neck, finally he slumped, his body falling limp. Yet I kept squeezing, unwilling to give him a second chance.

Finally, I released my grip and shakily stood up, taking deep breaths. But as I looked down, I felt a deep horror rising in me.
The first guard had been somewhat of a accident, but this. This was murder.
I had felt him die under my hands.
A window popped up.

Ah yes, that's right.
This is a game, nothing but a game. I didn't need to feel guilty about this.
Resolutely forcing myself to think on other things, I pushed him out of my mind. I could deal with this later.
Looking at my stats, I had lost a total of 125 health from the attack, leaving me at about 180 remaining. Another look at my regeneration speed looked to be 5 health every 10 seconds, which means I should be fully recovered in 3 minutes.
Survival being my utmost priority, I hunted around for the guard's weapons. The gun was useless, my club had mangled it. And I had no desire to touch it or the flesh attached with it. I managed to find the taser however, which I placed inside my inventory before taking up the pepper spray and placing it in my pocket. Taking back up my club, I started back down the corridors. I had no illusions about resolving this peacefully no longer. It was kill or be killed. Even if I was captured, they would soon discover the bodies and it would be over for me.
If I remembered correctly, my cell was three staircases below the ground, and yet, I haven't seen a staircase. This place was seriously a freaking maze. As I turned a corner I came face to face with a group of three guards. As they yelled in alarm, I jumped backwards into my corridor, getting out of sight. Raising my club, I watched and waited for something to approach. A gun poked around the corner facing me and squeezed off a bullet. As a sudden pain blossomed in my shoulder, I slammed the club down on the gun. I heard the guy holding the gun scream in pain as his hand was mangled.

HP -53
Bleeding status, -1 HP a second
Ignoring the messages and pain, I waited with my club raised for any attacks. A second passed, two. Suddenly a guard ran out with his gun raised, I instantly swung my club and brained him. Another followed out, but my club was in a awkward position. Dropping the club, I dodged to the side as he fired his gun. The guard with the destroyed hand ran out with his taser in his remaining hand, but I had expected it and easily dodged the thin hooks. As the gun guard fired at me, I dodged and charged in close while yelling, I lowered my shoulder and slammed myself into his chest, hearing a few loud cracks, I felt his ribs break. Having knocked him into the ground I stumbled on top of him, I started to stand up just as the taser guard slammed a baton down on my back.
HP -14
Stunned for 1 second
I was momentarily stunned and collapsed back onto the guard, however I recovered fast enough to dodge the next swing. Rolling to the side, I stood up as the guard hit his friend and threw a wild punch into the guards face. Blood sprayed as his nose broke and he fell backwards in shock and pain.
HP -2
Guard has been stunned
The guard dropped to the floor and I finished up with a brutal kick to the side of his head. Behind me, the guard with the cracked ribs finally stopped wheezing, his lungs having been punctured.

Shaking, I leaned against the wall looking at the scene displayed before me.
I was so so screwed.
And why was I even killing them in the first place?
Heaving, I tried to puke. But struggling, I managed to choke it back down. I had no time to waste over grieving. Morbid curiosity had me check my level and I observed I was about to gain a level, despite being at 31% earlier.
I then noticed the steady popups of -1 HP and the bleeding status message. The pain in the shoulder was still there, but in my adrenaline rush I hadn't noticed it. Taking my shirt off, I looked at the wound, but there was just so much blood. Giving up, I balled my shirt and pressed it against the hole with a soft hiss of pain. After a few seconds, the HP -1 messages petered out and finally stopped. After a minute, the bleeding message disappeared as well. With my health no longer dropping. I slowly took the ball from my wound hoping that the bleeding wouldn't come back. Much to my relief, nothing happened.
My jacket and shirt were both covered in blood, so I discarded them. I could wash them later but I wanted to try keep my movements free, I had no idea how often I was going to be forced to fight. Breathing steadily now that I had gotten used to the scene about me, I collected the undamaged handgun from the guard with cracked ribs and deposited it into my inventory, leaving me with no free slots. Checking my health, I was shocked to see that I had only 45 HP remaining. Had the bullet hit something serious or something? And yet, I didn't feel weak from loss of blood or my low health..
My health was rising steadily from my regeneration, so it shouldn't be long until I was completely healed. Topless and half my chest covered in blood, I picked my club back up and started walking down the corridors, leaving a grisly scene behind me.
I dreaded to think of what other people would think if they saw me now.

Its characters have their own lives and aspirations, and our protagonist is but a piece of the greater tapestry. This story is not about right and wrong, or good and evil. Hope
There were 2 options: Fight the same war for countless more aeons. Shatter the Betrayer's undead legions time and time again until all was ground to dust. Because the endless legions truly never end. A hair's breath of ground in a century is enough if the war takes all of eternity. Or to choose Hope. To cast away his memories, his power, his very life. To wager everything on a chance to prevent their eventual end or to perish trying. Because if he were to return it would be with the power necessary to finally slay what remains of the Betrayer. Of the last Aspect. Only then would all things be right. And so, he chose the latter. Expect:Weak to strong quick-ish.Powerful MC reincarnates, gradually starts regaining memories.MC that is an actual character not a plot device. My original unique magic system discovered along with the MC.My original setting with mythos that have both been living rent free in my head for actual years.Opening arc will be less fast than the following story. Good writing (I think) and grammar. Upload schedulle: 2 chapters a week of 3-4k words each. I want to upscale to 3 in the future. Meant to be read in RR dark mode. For those coming here from my other stories, this is indeed a reimagining of my older story, CotM. I say reimagining because I have changed so much it cannot be called just a rewrite. Among the major changes, MC is fundamentally different in personality and background, I have actually planned the story out and changed it almost completely and I have adjusted my mythos so it no longer has as many holes as swiss cheese.
