Chapter 15 : Perfectly Calculated
The ground shook with an earth shaking vibration. There were sounds of things smashing into each other. Just from the pressure it emanated, one could guess that there was a huge battle currently occurring.
Ragna stood on one knee a distance away from the Ape King while panting heavily. He already battled the ape for a few hours. His mind was already spent. His condition was worse than ever.
He had to spend a great effort just to concentrate. In fact, almost all of his energy was used on his movement ability. To control other's energy as yours wasn't an easy thing to do and it needed a LOT of concentration. The burden was too heavy for it to be done repeatedly!
And Ragna managed to do every single time of it perfectly in this last few hours!
Ragna felt splitting pain in his mind. His head seemed heavy and he could lose consciousness in any moment. It was only because of his unyielding character that he was still able to endure.
Every time he got close to the ape king, he would be thrown a variety of magical skills such as Earth Wall, Earthquake, or even the World of Spikes. He was forced into retreat every time the ape had done so.
Sometimes, he managed to throw a few punches, but that was at the expense of using his movement skill. Which, of course, put a great burden on his condition.
This few hours of exchange hadn't been in vain. Ragna somehow managed to grasp a few things about the ape. He was also able to avoid the ape's normal attack in a more leisurely manner.
But obviously, he still needed to take a risk to be able to hit the ape. By risking himself that way, he would sometimes need to execute his movement skill when he got himself in a pinch.

The ape still had about 15 percents of its health remaining. It was very hard to whittle away its health in such situation.
Ragna was slowly recovering his mental energy. In Maya, as long as your health was in a fine shape, you wouldn't get exhausted. The concept of 'stamina' was closely linked to the health here. The only thing that mattered was your mental capability and endurance.
Ragna was able to rest his mind for a bit because he knew that after the ape used 'World of Spikes' it wouldn't be able to unleash another skill for about 30 seconds. Such small amount of opening couldn't be used to attack the ape. It could only be used to close the distance for a bit.
And now Ragna was using that small opening to properly rest his mind!
After a short while, Ragna felt that the ground beneath his feet trembled. It was the sign of earth spikes coming.
Ragna quickly sped toward the ape while moving in a zig-zag manner. He had a plan in his mind!
He made this plan after thoroughly researching the ape's attack pattern. It was impossible for him to whittle the ape's health slowly, his mind would crumble before the ape died. He needed to do something.
And this plan was his only chance in defeating the ape!
Ragna moved in a fluid manner, it was as if he already practiced the step for countless times.
'An earth spike in about 5 meters in front of me'
Ragna slightly changed his direction. Sure enough, the ground in front of him trembled, revealing an Earth Spike which hit nothing but air.
'Three earth spikes will be blocking my way in 3 seconds'
Ragna quickly turned right, then he got back to his original direction after beautifully dodging the attack. He was now inside the inner perimeter of the Ape!

'Earth wall, now!'
He accelerated without hesitating. Before, he was running slightly slower than his peak speed. It was all to fool the Ape, messing with its timing and prediction.
The ground sprang behind him, he was able to successfully pass the wall without breaking it using his Mana Strike. Since he got the extra stats from the elite golems, he never ran out of Mana again. At least if he didn't use the skill in a quick succession.
The Ape roared! It swung its right fist toward Ragna. It also brandished its left hand, to prepare in case the attack missed.
Ragna didn't even look at the huge fist, he slightly slowed his running speed and jumped!
The fist punched the spot right in front of him but Ragna was already in mid air. He landed right on top of the Ape's fist exactly at the time when the ape entered its end attack animation.
The ape quickly swiped its left hand toward Ragna which he quickly dodged by doing another jump. The attack didn't even graze Ragna. The ape once again entered its end attack animation.
Ragna used this opportunity to ran toward the ape's face! He was running on top of its body!
The Ape could only watch him get closer and closer toward its face. It was powerless because all his attack missed and there wasn't enough time to do another attack.
BAM!
The Ape's face was smacked hard! It let out a horrifying howl.
The huge magical symbol in its back shone with a bright red color! It was about to unleash another World of Spikes!
If at this moment Ragna still hadn't positioned himself outside the inner perimeter of the Ape, he would surely be killed by the attack. Strangely, Ragna was nowhere to be seen.
The Ape didn't even care, after fighting Ragna for a few hours, it was confident that Ragna was running away.
The huge magical symbol in its back emitted a droning sound. All the Mana in its surrounding was absorbed, making it looked like a typhoon.
It was the moment that Ragna was waiting for!
Ragna suddenly showed up behind the ape. He was right in front of the huge magical symbol!
His right hand was covered with a dense amount of energy. It was the maximum power he could achieve at this stage.
Right when the magical symbol was about to burst with power, he unleashed his skill right at the middle of it!
Mana Strike!
BOOOOOOMMMM !!!
The magical symbol exploded with a terrifying amount of force. The ape suffered a very serious energy backlash. It let out a bloodcurdling shriek as if it was experiencing the most painful moment of its life.
The ape was blasted away. Ragna saw its health dropping significantly.
15.. 10.. 8.. 5.. 2 percent !
The ape was currently lying on the floor weakly. Its body was bruised all over. Its entire energy channel was wreaking havoc!
Ragna tried to suppress the exhaustion in his mind. It was the most important moment.
He had to deal the finishing blow!

The Legion of Nothing
Nick Klein is your average high school geek--if you can still count as average when your grandfather is a retired superhero, and you've been trained in the martial arts by his friend, a mysterious, immortal mercenary. After his grandfather dies, Nick inherits the last version of the Rocket suit, powered armor that allows him to shrug off bullets, smash through walls, and manipulate sound. Along with it comes the base of his grandfather's superhero team including the team's jet and trophies from forty years of fighting criminals and aliens. Together, Nick and his friends, descendants of his grandfather's teammates, attempt to bring back a superhero team that was originally formed during World War 2. Along the way they'll face the normal problems of high school (bullies, homework, and dating), and the less normal problems like supervillians and mysteries leftover from their grandparents' past. As a story, it uses the conventions of all eras of comics from the 1940s on, ranging from serious to silly. If you're hoping for a grim and gritty story, this isn't it. The Legion of Nothing first debuted on my website legionofnothing.com in 2007. In that period it's updated more than 900 times, is still running, and has had millions of pageviews. The first two years have been released as an ebook, receiving good reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. I hope you'll enjoy it, and that you'll review it and comment. Sufficiently Advanced
A Novella about magic vs aliens vs science. It's a raucous, campy sci-fi read involving humans gaining magic, a possibly pizza-hating alien empire, the decapitation of the US Federal Government, eldritch abominations, lesbian space witches and some medium-hard science.I wouldn't say it's not serious, but I wouldn't say it's serious. Eh, it's not serious. Wait... it's getting serious.
