《The antagonist's daughter》Volume 2: Chapter 29

“How long before we can move in!?”
Inside a tent just a little away from the underground dungeon’s entrance, Duke Adrian’s voice roared with impatience.
By his side, Walter tried to calm him down, but he himself was also starting to lose his patience.
“General, I apologize for the delay. But it turns out that the message lady Charlotte sent was true. The [seven sins] is a highly wanted and dangerous assassination group. If we were to move in without careful planning, it could back fire on us.” The kneeling captain of the duke’s army said with resolute, even when faced with his rage.
“Professor Karin, how is Lady Charlotte currently doing?” to try to calm his heart, Walter asked for Charlotte’s situation.
Puff Puff who was in Karin’s arms then relayed the words its mistress told him “He says that they are currently safe inside the dungeon and none of them are injured.” Even she as her teacher felt relieved to hear that news.
“So Leo is safe as well. Please relay my thanks to Lady Charlotte for letting me know.” when he heard the news, King August had immediately deployed his personal knight squad and set out to the rescue for his son. As for the matters concerning the kingdom, he left Prime Minister Vander in charge and his wife, the queen, as back-up.
It wasn’t just the king. Even Leila’s father had come with a squad of his own. The largest team however still belonged to Duke Adrian.
They had already sent out several scouts to secure the area and all the soldiers were ready to advance. All that was left was the scout’s report.
“General!” a man in light uniform rushed inside as rude as it may be, but this was an emergency. With panting breath, he gave his report.

“Alright, move out!” Duke Adrian finally gave the word. The soldiers all marched in formation inside and the ground began to tremble.
Not being able to just stand and wait, Duke Adrian also joined the battle with Walter right next to him.

Four floors below, Charlotte had received the news from Puff Puff and informed the others. They were relieved, but Charlotte warned them to be cautious nonetheless.
While they were resting, Charlotte sensed something strange in the air. It wasn’t the presence of monsters, but something else she didn’t know.
“…stay here, I need to check up on something.”
“Where are you goin-“ but before Terence could even ask, her figure had already vanished. She was like a phantom that appeared and disappeared without warning!
Only after she was absolutely sure that they would be safe for the time being, did she leave. She followed the presence until she reached a dead end. But, unlike a normal dead end, this one gave her the feeling of an illusion.
She closed her eyes and scanned around her, but there was no sign of danger.
(Then this is probably another one of those hidden rooms, right? but, is this a trap or a treasure room….?)
She remembered that that was indeed the case, but, she also remembered that the guy who was in charge of that section had a rather sadistic personality. The traps he placed were terrifying and the chances that it was treasure instead of a trap could be said to be close to 1 out of the 1000.
(Whatever. This isn’t worth it if it’s just a secret room.)
She thought that it perhaps might have been something else, but that didn’t seem to be the case. Just as she was about to turn around to head back, an unknown force paralyzed her body.

“Eh!?”
Before she could even react, he body was gradually being pulled towards the wall!
Inch by inch, an invincible force pulled her closer until she was just in front of the wall. Yet, it didn’t stop!
Just when she thought she would hit the wall, her body passed right through it!
(So it was an illusion….)
She wanted to cry, but the sound never left her lips.

“Where do you think she went for so long?” Leila asked worriedly. It had already been long past a quarter hour and they knew she wasn’t the kind of irresponsible person. “…nothing bad happened to her, right…?”
But, not even Leo or Terence could assure her as they themselves had asked that question in their mind.
It could be said that, the only reason they were still alive until now was thanks to her.

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.

Mistbound: Eternity
The world is said to be formed out of duality of man. Good and evil, right and wrong, light and dark. And with duality, comes conflict. A meaningless clash of ideals results in pointless wars. Azlan is wanderer who doesn't falls in either category. Tired and done with the redundant world, he lives his secluded life, hunting monstrosites for coin in the crumbling province of Mountaliya, situated in the land of Forsa. The premise follows Azlan as he explores the province, experiencing the culture and its people as they try to stand unshaken amidst a cold and unforgiving world. The story is a dark fantasy that is a balance of action and world building but most importantly, it follows the people going about their daily lives. The world has entered a state of stasis, there are no high stakes, no glory to be had, only a decaying realm of ice remains. Everyone awaits for Heaven's descent, an event prophesied to bring the world out of stasis, by granting the champion of the event a wish. Heaven Shall Descend. I wanted to write a high fantasy story that doesn't focuses too much on Magic and Swordfights, but rather interactions between people, a bit of politics and ideals. This is my first attempt at writing something this huge, please let me know if you see mistakes or any problems in general, so I can learn from them. (The cover picture is from the year 1818, "Wanderer Above the Mist" by Caspar David Friedrich). I also write Short stories set in the same shared universe. You can read them here: Dark Fantasy Short Stories.

Ruins of Dalághast
I've been writing for as long as I can remember, but I'd always been torn between different projects. That's why I decided to dedicate myself to a pretty strict schedule of writing and editing a single chapter every month since the start of 2019. This is an ongoing, work in progress novel that follows a ragtag group of sellswords as they delve into a lost city on the edge of the known world in search of their fortunes. Within, though, they find much more than they ever expected and find themselves in a race against time to unravel a mystery centuries old.
