And so the nice peaceful afternoon quiet was shattered by the hi-pitched earsplitting scream of a terrified little girl.
… No, not Milena, that was me. I really am a boy. I was just that scared, okay?
I was over the wall and dashing full speed before my mind could even catch up. Right behind me, the horrifying beast that used to be Captain Firth came blasting through the wall and into the street right behind me screaming for my blood as still-smoldering bits of stone rained down in all directions.
"Get back here so I can kill you, ya little runt!" he yelled as he began to charge multiple spells at once.
I was too scared to even bother with my usual joke about that and just kept running, because Roland sure wasn't joking. One fireball after another rained down all around me in huge numbers like it was some kind of apocalypse. Smoking craters, smashed statues and massive smoking holes in the nearby walls were left behind me as I sprinted down one of the side streets, screaming the whole way. They started to let up suddenly and I hoped that maybe I was getting away, so I dared to take a look back.
I immediately regretted it. The next one he was charging was massive. The sigil was easily twice as big as he was! He let that thing loose and there was nothing I could do but just sprint as fast as I could towards some kind of cover.
"AAAAAAAHHHHH!" I screamed and leapt into the air as the giant fiery ball of death slammed into the ground right behind me with a huge explosion.

Right when I hit the ground, I could feel my back burning with pain and I realized it wasn't just pain, I was really on fire!
"Hot, hot, hot, HOT!" I yelled as I quickly pulled off the sheet I had been using as a cloak.
That got rid of the fire, but now I had a new problem. My ears and tail were now completely exposed. People took one look at me and the whole "Wulvari! Wulvari!" thing started happening again. They were already running around in a panic with the Captain's rampage, but now it was total madness! The city guard as well as some of Roland's subordinates in the royal guard started showing up. They couldn't decide between trying to stop me, calming the people, or trying to stop their enraged boss.
"When I catch you, I'll rip off your tail and use it as a duster!" Roland yelled, completely ignoring the other guards as he kept throwing more spells.
They couldn't get near me without risking getting hit by the fireballs. Trying to stop the Captain looked downright suicidal. So, in the end, all they could do was deal with the bystanders. Fat lot of help those guys were.
I turned and ran straight towards the East Gate. I could have run to the Main Gate, but the Main Street Market has seen more than enough damage for one day. The East Gate is closer anyway. The guards at the gates looked shocked to see me with my ears and tail exposed, but that surprise was quickly overshadowed when they saw the raging demon raining down fiery destruction in my wake. They didn't even bother trying to do anything about it and just hid in the guardhouse by the gate. Do your jobs, damn you!

"Crap, crap, crap, crap, CRAP!" I yelled as I shot out of the gates with the fires of hell flying right after me.
He had to start getting tired at some point, but I couldn't count on it, so I headed straight into the forest. I jumped over roots and leapt over fallen logs and rocks as I weaved my way through the trees to get away. It didn't seem to be helping much as every obstacle I tried to put in his way was blasted into tiny bits without the slightest hesitation. I ran into a small ravine that looked good to hide in, but an explosion only a few arm lengths away proved me wrong. I dashed deeper into the ravine hoping to find a way out at the other side. I came up to a sheer stone wall and jumped up as high as I could.
"No!" I yelled as I slipped back down off the rock as I couldn't get a grip.
I tried running to the left only to met with another explosion cutting me off. I turned and ran back the other way only to be blocked there, too! Out of options I turned and saw Captain Roland had caught up with me.
"Hahh... Hahh... I got you now, you little beast..." he gasped, finally out of breath.
It didn't do me much good, though. I was just as tired as he was.
"What are you going to do with me?" I asked.
He already told me a couple times while chasing me and I really hoped it was just a threat and nothing more. He wouldn't really kill a little kid... would he? I didn't get to find out what his answer was as the air was split once again with the sound of a little girl's scream. Not me this time. The Captain knew that voice.
"Milena!"
