Chapter 56 The Storm
We made our way down a side street. Point men give the all clear hand movement and we move across the street quickly. A Were-Beast pops out of a building smelling something, throwing it's nose wildly into the air looking to catch the direction of the scent, but is met with 2 beams and a sniper shot to the head well the head was gone in an instant. Eddie and the two men rejoin the group silently and quickly.
This has happened frequently, those noses of theirs are sharp. So far we have encountered, 11 groups much like the first, and several single or doubles of the Were-beast. I can not make sense of their organization, some are and some are not organized, but they have not moved closer than 3 km to the school, as far as we can tell. It is getting thicker with them the closer we get to the portal area.
The Marines and Soldiers have all hit level 12 now. I gained 2 levels to 47, Ki'Diera gained 6 levels to 54, she had also received 30K xp for the Queens title, while both Cindy and Julie after receiving the Queens title and this xp rose to level 59 from 56. When Ki'Diera told me she got the 30K both Julie and Cindy chimed in that they did as well.
We have been out here now almost 2 hours going back and forth along the side roads, going any closer right now is not an option with all these people, so instead we are skirting the area they are in and sniping them off one group at a time.
Eddie was the biggest surprise, he was at level 43 gaining 2 levels as well. During his time at Fort Carson, he was able to gain advantage of the system while he was out sniping creatures with the xp bonus going on.
We come to an intersection and I call for a stop.
“Let's rest here in this shop” I pointed to a 3 story older looking building, which probably had some historic value at some time, as it had the historic marker on it. “I want everyone to allocate their unused stat points and rest up a bit.”
We enter the building quickly, and search it to make sure we are alone. Eddie and 2 others head for the roof to keep watch. I have my detection ability up, as do Ki'Diera, Cindy and Julie whose Bracelets gave it to them as they were copies of my crown. We drank some water, but no one ate anything, it was only 9:25 am and we just eaten breakfast 2 hours ago. Annabelle packed lunches for everyone to take on the hunt, presenting several baskets to us, while we were in the Cafeteria having breakfast. The woman thinks of everything.
Several Ny'Har'em tried to join us as well, saying it was their duty to protect the King, I turned them all down pointing to the group with me saying they would protect us. We sipped our drinks, and talked in quiet voices, some going over their status with their buddies asking for advice.
I looked at my own status

I had 470 used points. I needed willpower if I want to make use of this Reality Manipulation. Making bullets had drained 90% of it when it was at 98. It rose to 192 after I became King effectively doubling it. I look to my defense and attack and sigh, then at my Vitality and endurance and sigh some more.
Swallowing and hoping I made the right choice, I begin to dump 370 into willpower and 100 into Intelligence. I need mana as well as when my mana and will power drop below 0 bad thing happen to me. Then what Julie told me yesterday hit me, she used some of my and Ki'Diera's mana and was still ok but tired. So what if it was only willpower that actually hit 0 and knocked me out?
What is that Scott?
I was wondering if I needed to add to intelligence to raise my mana pool for the Reality Manipulation, but Julie used our mana yesterday and she was fine.
Having more mana would not hurt, but yes, she was fine after borrowing some of your mana.
Yeah Scott I drained mine to 0 and then it started to take from you and Ki'Diera equally. I was tired till my mana pool began to recover.
Hmm so I can use this 100 elsewhere. I have not paid much attention to Focus but it also came with the Reality Manipulation.
Then I would use it there Scott, Focus seems to imply clarity does it not, able to focus on something. Maybe give you a better sense of what you are doing? While willpower is the ability to make it come forward with your mind?
Alright I am convinced, Focus it is
I add the 100 into focus which I also got a 10% bonus in, thus the 100 became 110. With that I refresh my status and now have Willpower at 532 and Focus at 321. At that time:
We got company
16 of them coming towards us
16 coming from the North
All three girls chime in at once in my head. I have not received the warning yet, as their range is greater than mine. Then I feel it, 16 of them.

“Get ready 16 of them coming down the road from the north.” I call out quietly to all. Everyone makes their way to a window, while some rush upstairs to the 2nd floor windows.
I see one of the heads pop. It evaporates in eerie silence. Then another and another, all do the same. Eddie is picking them off. The Were -beasts are confused and smelling the air and looking all about. Two more go down quickly, then they spot him, but I yell out first, “FIRE!” We all open fire at once taking down the remaining 11 in quick succession before they could warn others. No Staff Wielders were with this group.
I motion for one of the others, Hawkens, to gather the people on the roof so we could move out. We put our water bottles away into inventory, and head into the street quickly to see if more are coming, as I exit I see four round things fall to ground in front of us in the road, I recognize them right away, Hawkens, Schmidt, Lopez and last was Eddie. I hear a gasp “no way....” someone says. Then I feel them all around us, just suddenly appearing, no approach just in place.
I look up on the roofs and I see Drow everywhere. Arrows and wands pointed at us. Then I see one appear behind Cindy, sword drawn, before I can move, he is already thrusting it into her.
A red glow surrounds Cindy and as if she was taken over, possessed by something, her brown hair begins to wave wildly in the air. Julie and Ki'Diera too begin to glow red, their hair is waving wildly in the air too, but there is no wind.
The Drow looks surprised as the blade is stopped by the red barrier. Upon contract he is disintegrated into nothingness with that surprised expression, no sound comes from his lips.
As one the girls say “None shall harm this child, all shall perish who try to cause harm!” Their eyes are now glowing red as they move as one to grasp one another's hands and form a circle. Arrows and magics rain down from the roofs and more Drow appear, but the red barrier has expanded to include our group. Just then another group of Were-beast come around a corner and spy us all. They rush forward to attack, not hesitating, a Staff Wielder is with them.
The Drow continue to attack, those who use the blade simply disintegrate when they contact the red barrier, while the others pour magic and arrows down on us. The red eerie glow grows brighter from the three girls holding hands building up. Then there is a pulse, it is silent, it expands in all directions at once, the breaking of wood, the sound of metal tearing, cars being crushed, and the howls and cries of Were-Beast and Drow alike is heard, as they all die.
In the blink of an eye, everything within 1km is flattened like an F5 tornado came thru here. Not even the foundations of the buildings were left. I look around quickly and see Eddies head is gone too, and his body is nowhere to be seen. I am without emotion right now, on one hand my friend had just died, on the other my wives were possessed and glowing red.
Everyone is in shock right now not understanding what is happening. As one, the three girls holding hands, Cindy in the middle, Julie on the right, Ki'Diera on the left begin to walk, slowly but deliberately west. I follow blindly not knowing what to do. I can not get close to them, the red aura coming from them is dangerous, I can tell that much. But the barriers that surrounds us begins to move as well, forcing us to follow.
"Master Gunnery Sergeant what in the hell is going on?" asks Foster from behind me
"Gunny......" Montgomery says simply looking at me with a look of fear and confusion.
I do not answer but follow my three wives staying as close as I can. The rest fall silent, no more words are spoken. We walk a straight path, anything that touches the barrier is destroyed into nothingness. Only west, no diversion, in a straight path we walk. Then the Structure and the Were-beast army comes into view, and they continue walk heading straight for it and them.
The Were-beast see us as we see them, and they come rushing in a flood. All perish as they hit the barrier, it does not even flicker. Onward, the three walk, chanting now in a low voice as one, “All who try to harm the child shall perish.”
"Cindy? Julie? 'Ki'Diera?" I try calling, out my voice now comes back to me finally, I tried in thought but they did not answer. I felt their presence in my mind, but I only felt malice coming from each. A pure hatred unlike I never felt before.
Onward they walked and by the thousands, the Were -Beast died, until we reach the structure itself. The Structure looked incomplete, but they made a lot of progress on it. I can see the entrance way where people could be led by the hundreds thru it.
The girls stop and form their circle again, their hair is raging like tentacles about them. We are all standing close by watching. No one is uttering a word, even tho many questions show on their faces. The eerie glow shows up again and brightens, the were-beast having seen many of their comrades fallen to the barrier, have us now completely surrounded as magic after magic attack pummels the barrier form numerous staff wielders, barking orders to the were-beast.
It is 10:23 am, as I glance at my watch briefly for some unknown reason, it took us a little over 40 min to walk 3 km to this place. I tried numerous times to talk to each in my mind with no response from any of the girls, only a feeling of hatred coming from them.
The Glow is a bright red, and once again the pulse runs outward. The cries and screams of a million plus Were-beast echoes thru out. And then it is gone, the Structure, the were-beast, everything, even hills, all flattened, fresh soil upturned in it's place.
As one, the girls chant again,” It is done, no more harm shall come from these. None shall harm this child!” And as one they all three fall to the ground unconscious as their hair falls about them and the red eerie glow disappears from them.
I rush to their sides and grab Julies hand first and check her for a pulse, I am not dead, so neither is she or Ki'Diera, but I wanted to make sure. She looks like she is in a deep, peaceful sleep. Cindy and Ki'diera are in the same state.
“Gunny what happened?”, an awestruck Sgt Montgomery says approaching with caution, fear clearly in his eyes.
“I do not know Montgomery, I really do not know.” I say back to him, while holding Ki'Diera, stroking her hair gently.
