《Life Once Again》Chapter 37

Silence. The class was staring at me in silence before someone finally spoke up.
“An interesting project you have there, Solis.” Brandon said as I looked at him.
“Don’t act like you didn’t know.” I replied.
“Knowing something will happen and seeing it happen are two different things. So, how much?” I knew what he was asking so I smiled.
“A thousand platinum for the whole book and I don’t sell individual arrays.” I replied.
‘Let’s at least make some bank from this.’
“A thousand! Isn’t that a little too exorbitant?” Serena asked. I turned to look at her as I leaned backwards to the teacher’s table.
“Look at it this way, for a thousand platinum, you can become a master of the mind arts, guaranteed.” I turned to look at Brandon.
“It’s not like you didn’t know that.” I said to him as I smirked and he scowled. I knew why he scowled and he knew why he scowled.
‘So it works.’
I knew that certain people would try to do all they could to disallow me from owning the ‘selling monopoly’ of this, so I came prepared. All the books were handcrafted by me and somewhere along the crafting process, I etched in certain wards that make the runic arrays unseeable unless you have the book in your hand, that includes seeing them from vision. The books themselves could be classed as artifact as I made them nigh indestructible, anti theft (once the owner was recognised) and wear and tear resistant.
“Well?” I looked at Brandon. I knew he needed it because it would be a big help in controlling his sorcery.
“I’ll take one then.” He finally replied.
“Give me one as well.” The princess immediately said as well.

“If it works as you say, then it is a boon to have. I shall take one as well.” Wei An added.
“I’ll take one, please.” Bam said.
‘Oh? Even you? Well, good for me.’
I walked over to my desk and picked up my bag. I brought out four books as the people who asked for them came in my direction. I looked at Brandon and held a book in my palm facing his direction.
“Place your hand on the cover of the book.” As he followed my instruction, I channeled mana into the book with some application of intent.
“The book is now keyed to you, nobody you don’t want to read it will be able to and it cannot be stolen from you. You can transfer ownership by channeling mana into the book and handing it to someone with the intent of transferring ownership. It cannot be copied and taking your eyes off the book will make you forget the pattern you just saw. Don’t worry though, you can do the exercises on your own after training with the arrays a few times, the amount depends on the person. You know, talent and all that.” I gave the book.
“Expect the payment later today.” He nodded at me and left the homeroom. The same thing occurred with the remaining people who bought the book before the homeroom was completely empty. I sat in the classroom for the last time and just looked around.
‘It was fun, going through the schooling process again. I actually learned some new things so it wasn’t bad at all. I’ll somewhat miss it.’
I stood up and left the homeroom for the last time. For the rest of the day, all the people who owed me money came and paid for it before they left and I was in my room, relaxing when I heard a knock on the door. I walked over and opened the door to see Mr Colbert.

“Can you please come with me? The principal would like to see you.”
‘I knew this was coming.’ I followed him all the way to the principal's office and opened the door to see the people I expected to see there along with some surprises.
‘Huh, why is the vice principal here? Flamel, I understand. He is the magical encyclopedia they depend on. Whatever, not my business.’
“You’ll always keep surprising us, won’t you?” Flamel asked as I raised both hands in the universal gesture of innocence.
“Hey, my classmates produced things that are equally as momentous.”
Lie. One or two did, but they were highly dependent on which….’sector’ you were in to be able to reap benefits from their innovations, like medical for Serena. As for mine...
“Bullshit. A master of the mind arts is someone so revered because of its unimaginable rarity. For you to even be able to conceive of this….this monstrosity, you have to be one yourself, which should be impossible. It takes years to-” The vice principal, Mcgall, started ranting before she was cut off by Flamel.
“You should know him by now.” Flamel said, while looking at me.
“Impressive wards, by the way. I couldn’t break them, and I’m feeling unmotivated to try. Something you added?” I just smirked at the question so he continued.
“And I’m guessing the smart ones among your classmates have already bought some copies off you.” Flamel stated as my smile just widened. The principal sighed before closing his eyes.
“I trust you are smart enough to see the problem of everyone running around as masters of the mind arts.” I nodded at the principal, still maintaining my smile.
“You don’t have to worry, it is purposefully extremely expensive to dissuade most people. And even if they can, I have the final discretion on who to sell them to. Only I can make them, after all.”
“Just out of curiosity, how much?” Flamel asked.
“A thousand platinum coins.” Flamel laughed uncontrollably for a few seconds while the other inhabitants of the room went silent.
“Yeah, that will scare off the masses. So, and this one?” He pointed to the copy in this room.
“I will allow it to be put in the restricted section of the library here, in this school as my final thank you.” I said.
“Hahahahahahahaha, good, good, good. Hahahahahahaha.”
‘Guess he’s still a little sentimental about this place.’

Ouroboros Ascendant is a story about friends you meet on the internet, and then spend entirely too much time together hunting monsters, doing quests, earning experience, and risking your life. Except for Jack, Erin, Rory, and Layla, the video game they play together every Saturday isn’t nearly as real or as threatening as the primal world of Ayrgard. A mysterious force has drawn them across the darkness between realms for its own purposes, and they’ll need to survive monsters, politics, and a lurking threat they can’t yet imagine. In the interest of disclosure and ease of access, Ouroboros Ascendant features gay, bisexual, and straight main and supporting characters, and features elements of romance between some of those characters.
