《The man who wasnt human to begin with....》Prolog part 1

"For all intents and purposes, it could be said that I had a good life" He thought to himself as he stood before the massive reptilian beast which would surely bring about his downfall. He had lived a "normal" life up until the point where he had been summoned to this strange world. Such as the story goes, he had been the nerd, never really bullied but never really accepted. Things came to him easily, math and science were second nature, and in his eyes everything else stemmed from those.
Take sports for instance, he was good at those, but only because he understood the math behind it. He almost never missed a shot, never got caught with the ball, and yet he never truly felt that he was "good" at those sports, as it all stemmed from his true passion of math and science. In his eyes they were pointless as they did nothing for the world except draw spectators from other jobs.
Athletes and Jocks were the pinnacle of school, and yet they did nothing for anybody. Engineers and Scientists were the ones who made to world what it was, and yet those who specialized in that never received recognition or gratitude.
His mind always had this angle on life, and so despite having the skill in other things he never flaunted it or perceived it as something "good" to have. He knew that this was not common, but he really didn't care at all, so he just kept living his life letting people think he was inept at sports.
Another thing that he knew was not common for normal people was that he cared less about beauty then most. Ya he still preferred someone to be pretty instead of ugly, but to him that was secondary.
He couldn't explain it, he just simply didn't think it was that important. He never really focused on character or chastity either. No, what drew him to a woman was intellect. He was fascinated by intelligent women, and found them far better then sluts, or "idols" who couldn't even hold their own in a conversation when he initiated one. He simply scoffed at the tunnel vision that people would get when they meet a hot girl.
What idiot would let lust determine their actions instead of logic? And what force would make a normally logical person act irrational. It was just retarded in his eyes.
Of course this applied to his friends as well. His friends were all nerds in the truest sense of the word. Where most people would talk about stupid topics such as pop culture and school matters, they talked about math and science. The newest theories about life, the newest inventions and what doors they would open. The "what ifs" and "how does this work" were very common among their conversations.
This was how he wanted it, he chose his friends specifically for that purpose and he would be disappointed in himself at his choice if they were to act "normal" and irrational.
He was content with his normal life, but he always felt that something was missing. He could be considered a sociopath, but that was because he perceived himself as better then the world. In his eyes, the gap was so big that sometimes he doubted that they were the same species. His smart friends were the smartest people in the school, but still they were not as smart as he was, they still had to study, to think on problems instead of just arriving at the answer. They still had things that they desired but were unable to achieve.

He was slightly contemptuous with the world and its people. This was coupled with the feeling that he did not belong and nobody was truly up to his standards. Even among his friends he was the most detached from the world. This lead to isolation. That was, until he was brought into this new world of magic and swords.
He assumed that here, in this place, he would be able to get along with people and "fit in", as he would potentially lose his top spot and break the isolation of being the undisputed best.
They were summoned into a picturesque medieval throne room. Around them was a circle of guards presumably mages and nobility.
"Welcome heroes!!" Someone off to the side said. Everyone in the class was looking around in shock and awe.
He alone was calm, this was certainly irrational and he was simply having a dream, no point in overreacting like the idiots around him. He simply decided to play along and wait out this dream.
He was certain that he had fallen asleep in class at some point. Eventually, at the end of class, his teacher would wake him up to notify him that he needed to proceed on to his next period. His teacher wouldn't wake him up, as the teacher knew that the one sleeping knew more then he did about the particular topic, no matter what it was.
The teacher in his dream, as it would have happened in reality, was the second person to regain their calm. The fake teacher looked around at the students and told them to circle around, as he tried to ascertain the situation. Most of the students obeyed like mindless sheep, but a few were simply standing around in a daze.
??? : "I am sure that you must be surprised at this sudden event in your life, but please, do not be alarmed! We have summoned you into our world! You have the opportunity to become the strongest people on our planet! To slay great beasts! To destroy entire armies with your might! Of course, all of this will happen in due time, for now please calm down and listen to our tale of sorrow and grief."
The speaker, presumably a herald for the nobility, spoke loudly as he addressed the class. Everyone with the exception of the boy convinced he was in a dream, turned towards the speaker to listen.
Herald : "Please, I implore you to head my words. Our great country of Gracemaria (Ace Combat :D) is under attack! The dread demons have enlisted the help of the great reptile clans in destroying our country! We could not hold out alone, so we summoned you... You! All of you, are gods among us. Great beings who will bring about our salvation. Of course, we do not ask this out of greed, only necessity, and as such you shall be amply rewarded for your services.
To those who wish for payment you simply need to ask, and all of Gracemaria's great riches and prosperity shall be given to you upon the completion of your task. For the women;"
He paused, and waved his hand in an exaggerated fashion. As he did so several beautiful serving girls clad in light, thin clothes exposing well endowed bodies walked into the room sensually and seductively, carrying bundles of fancy clothing.
Herald : "For the women; clothing made of the finest silks and jewelry made of the finest gems and metals. These are gifts from the best tailors and suppliers among all of the human race, a gift for your help in defending our species. For the men; Titles, women, riches and more! These clothes jewels and girls are a start, they are now yours to keep. We do hope that you will consider our country as you enjoy your taste of what is to come should you accept."

He said, flashing a bright smile. Truly it was a wonderous offer, one which most people wouldn't refuse, and yet one student was completely oblivious to the happenings around him, as he studied the architecture of the building, the bricks upon which it was made and the design of the hall itself.
??? : *This is well built, not exactly as I would build it, but well done in any case...Well perhaps it is the way I would build it, as it is my dream. Perhaps I have a subconscious yearning for medieval times?* He thought to himself.
The herald was oblivious to him, as his classmates were enthralled by the gifts. The women were crowding around the dresses and the jewelry, many of them were eager to leave and dress up like princesses with golden tiaras and silk dresses.
The men were talking with the female serving girls. They had gleamed so far that the girls would do anything asked of them by the heroes. The men were ecstatic about this, but there was a problem, in the class there were fifteen boys but only seven girls were present.
This meant that six groups of two boys must share girls, and there would be a group that required three boys to share a girl. This caused a debate about the groups, which they were still arguing about when the herald quieted them down. To the class this man was the mouthpiece of great things to come, so they shushed each other, and when it was quiet he continued.
Herald : "Great heroes, there will be a time later on where you may dress up and play with your new "toys". But for now, let us ascertain your status and abilities. Please, come forward and place your hand on this sphere. It will hurt a small amount as the sphere sifts through your mind searching your memories and your body to determine your class and stats. Please bear with us for this short duration. Once it is done searching it will output a small metallic plate which details everything about you. Now then, who wishes to go first?"
He was met with a plethora of hands, and he chose the person in front of him.
Herald : "You there, what is your name?"
??? : "I am Vincent Protem" The man said in response.
Herald : "GREAT Lord Protem!!!" He bowed and then knelt. He extended his right arm, motioning to the sphere held out by a different serving girl. " If you would please put your hand on the sphere, this process may begin."
Vincent eagerly put his hand upon the sphere and it started emitting light. His face cringed in pain as his entire being was forcefully inspected. A few seconds later the light faded, leaving Vincent looking slightly fatigued. A card slid out of the side of the sphere. The herald took hold of the card and declared loudly.
Herald : "Great Lord Protem is a warrior class, he has skills pertaining to the use of the sword. His starting stats are all above twenty at LEVEL ONE!!! Surely his potential is remarkable!! Even more so are his strength and vitality stats which are both above thirty!! Let us hope that this is a precedent for those to come..."
Vincent let out a smile as he was handed the card, he was ushered away from the herald and was lead over to greet the nobles that were spectating the event.
-----------------------------------------------------------
By the time the last one in line arrived at the sphere the hall had largely emptied, it had only been a half hour or so to get through the forty names prior to this one, but the herald made a big deal out of all of them until number thirty, upon which someone asked for some food.
The king imminently declared a feast and all those who were done, as well as all of the nobles standing around agreed. They all left the hall to go to a different hall where food was being prepared. The last ten finished with only the servant girl holding the sphere and the other people in line present.
The last person in line was the teacher, he had waited it out to make sure that nothing went wrong with the other students. He had wanted to go first to ascertain if this was dangerous or if the mysterious people in front of them had been telling the truth. Having the first spot taken away from him he deemed to go last, to make sure that no problems arose.
After his was completed, he glanced around only to notice the class nerd lying on the ground, presumably sleeping as always. He had completely forgotten about him much to the teachers regret.
The child was named Cornelius Williams. He always was rather strange, even now in this strange situation he was simply lying on the floor staring at the ceiling as if nothing had changed in his world.
The teacher went over to him and convinced him to put his hand on the sphere. Right before the child did he heard him quietly mutter.
Cornelius : "So this dream is finally over?"
Cornelius put his hand on the sphere only to have a dull pain run through his body, as if frantically searching for something. His mind raced. At this point it was confirmed in his mind that this was no dream. Thoughts and problems with the scenario appeared rapidly in his mind, only to be put out with rational and logic.
Cornelius : *How is this possible? I feel pain but this should be a dream. No, the existence of pain ratifies the argument that this is not a dream but instead my altered reality. Fuck, I should have paid more attention earlier when they were speaking. Well no use in complaining now, instead lets just go with the flow and see where that takes us...*
He grabbed the little card that slid out of the sphere when the pain went away. He read it in his mind

He quickly hid his card, knowing full well that his status was abnormal due to his race not being human, and his name not being correct. He contemplated bringing this up to other people, but quickly thought against it due to the unknown implications that it would have. He simply shoved the card into his pocket and let his teacher lead him to where the feast was being held...

Four ordinary young people from four corners of the Earth wake up on a hill in another world. Here, their very presence is a crime against the Gods. On the fringes of civilization, life is often brief and always violent, but in the Empire's Heartland, implacable hunters seek to rectify their blasphemous existence with Blade and Fire. To return home, they will need to adapt to a place where their life will be earned in steel. But what will they be ready to sacrifice for their goal? Will their flame flicker out like so many others before them? Or will they thrive as Embers in the Ash? Hello, and welcome to my first fiction on this site! Embers in the Ash is an epic fantasy adventure story that aims to span quite a few chapters (I hope!). To set expectations, this isn't going to be a LitRPG or power fantasy-style story. I'm aiming for a fairly grounded story set in a fairly high-fantasy world. I hope you enjoy it! For this first month of publication, my aim is to give you, the reader, something to really bite into. I will be releasing a chapter every day at 9:15 AM EST (13:15 GMT), as well as the occasional double chapter (which will always be announced by a post-chapter author blurb). Check in fifteen minutes after the first chapter's release! After this first month of publication, the aim is to go for either a weekly or bi-weekly release schedule, depending on the sort of time I can reliably dedicate to writing. Either way, settle in for the long haul, and welcome to the story!
