“We are under attack get ready!” Aaron reacted instinctively, releasing his belt he jumped to his feet and ran towards the helicopter’s heavy weapons, unfortunately his speed was not what it once was and one Einherjar got there first, turning around he looked out of the window but only saw a few arrows his the metal walls harmlessly, the helicopter dropped suddenly and his feet left the ground briefly but he used his strings to tie himself down, when they recovered from the sudden drop he started to hear the shots “There is something in the air!”

Turning towards the back of the helicopter he used his strings to move towards it, the vehicle turned to the right nearly throwing him at the wall and succeeding in throwing Erick, he had to snicker at the sorry figure, the new Beta 1 was the first one to get to the back and hit the big red button to open the huge door, pulling his sniper from the back he loaded it with a magazine of piercing bullets and searched for the enemy outside, he didn’t see anything.

The helicopter was hit once more threatening to throw the soldiers out, the vehicle’s heavy guns continued to spew bullets outside like mad and the pilot even shot two of the four missiles it carried, heavy boons rang outside, “Loki, you got to do something!” screamed Eric “Why me? You do something!” Looking back he saw a spear point sticking out of the helicopter’s side “What the fuck?”

At his side some of the Einherjar looking out of the door started shooting at something, so he started to search the skies through his riffle’s scope, his helmet’s visor automatically calculated wind speed, distance and other variables as he finally found his prey, at first he thought it was some kind of bird but under the zoom from his equipment he was able to see a slightly humanoid shape and hands holding a weapon, it was still to far away for but he took aim carefully and squeezed the trigger slow and smoothly

He hit the creature in the chest and it dropped out of the sky like a fly, unfortunately it had been too little too late, the co-pilot ran out of the cabin and screamed “Get everyone ready the helicopter is not gonna make it!” “Shit” All the men holstered their weapons and picked up parachutes at the vehicle’s sides, Aaron put it on in a practiced manner then readied his rifle once again searching for more enemies.

The pilot ran out of the cockpit soon screaming at the top of his lungs “Jump, jump, jump! Another big one is coming!” the pilot them ran and dived right out the huge door, Aaron covered their jump until only he and Beta two remained them dived out as well, looking around at the sky he saw nearly forty of those creatures flying around, one of them held a brilliant red light on its hands, it pulled its arm back and threw the light out just as Beta 2 dived, the projectile flew like a meteor hitting the helicopter’s and running it through, with a loud bang and an explosion the helicopter was divided cleanly in two and started to fall down with them.

Aaron immediately turned his gun towards the creature who had thrown the attack and took aim again, his second shot rang out loudly, it had only been possible thanks to his visor’s accurate calculations.

The creature stumbled in the air but didn’t go down, pulling his rifle’s lever he chambered another round, the creature had taken some distance flying out of the range of his gun so he searched the sky for more targets, his aim assist lightened five targets in red, they were quickly closing in on him, taking aim he shot, the first one he hit on the leg while the second missed completely, the next three shots were confirmed kills.

Another fourteen of the enemies fell down from the Einherjar’s fire in barely 8 seconds of freefall but they were quickly running out of time as the ground was quickly approaching, a shower of arrows reached them, most missed or bounced right off their armor but Aaron saw one shinning slightly in red pierce the helmet of an Einherjar, another one covered in green light his Beta 2 on the belly and a third hit him on the chest, the new armor blocked the enchanted projectile completely bouncing the arrow off and absorbing the bruising impact.

Releasing his rifle he let it hang by its strap and pointed his hands toward Beta 2 and Beta 11, the two were the best shooters of the unit, Materializing bellow them and himself, he didn’t immediately stop their fall but used his control to lower their speed gradually over the next 4 seconds, the stop was still jarring but not debilitating so with their armors, as they stopped in the air Beta two understood immediately and screamed over the communicators.

“Give the others cover now!” The rest of the Einherjar were already past the perfectly safe 5500 feet and getting into a dangerous height even for their powerful gear, Aaron immediately lifted his weapon, his helmet’s computer synchronized with the other two and automatically divided the approaching enemies between them marking his own in red, aim assist did all the necessary calculations as he changed his rifle’s magazine and shot again, he had enough time to shot four bullets.

He hit all four shots killing one outright while hitting one in the chest and cutting a wing off another, only one was still up for fighting, the creatures were finally close enough for him to see them perfectly, they were humanoid but their bodies were covered in feathers and their legs were huge wicked talons, they all had a pair of huge wings at their backs and were covered in green light clothes, he took the time to inspect one

On the corner of his eye he caught a glimpse of a familiar red light, turning around he saw an arrow flying towards Beta 11, dissolving the shield bellow the man’s feet he let him fall back down but the arrow curved in the air following him, they didn’t have enough time to intercept it but Beta 11 tried to block with his own gun, he failed, the arrow pierced through his gun, his arm and into his chest before he exploded in a shower of blood and metal.

Many arrows flew down past his position as the harpies dived down towards the Einherjar who had just opened their parachutes, turning his weapon after them he took aim again but a second red arrow flew towards him, he immediately created another four shields in its path then used a string to pull one of his knives out of its sheath and swung it towards the arrow, the projectile pierced through the first shield easily enough but by the fourth it had lost some speed, his throwing knife hit the arrow straight on.

Alone his knife would not be enough to stop the arrow but he had taken the time to inscribe all six of his short blades with the impact rune, his was also triggered and both weapons exploded in a shower of red and a long bang, calling Beta 2 over the con Aaron said “Get them I will take care of the Boss!”

The Boss still flew outside his range, it was already charging another arrow with its full power, looking at his own mana he saw it continued to drop quickly, maintaining his shields on the air taking a lot out of him, before the creature finished charging it’s skill he took aim and shot.

The harpy had actually been fast enough to mostly dodge the bullet, the long distance clearly had something to do with it but the thing was incredibly fast, pulling the lever he chambered another round and shot.

Unwilling to continue getting hit the creature flew to a safer distance and just observed the fight, at his side Beta 2 dived out of his as another green glowing arrow nearly killed him, the fight had lasted a whole 35 seconds, more than enough time for his team to have reached the ground, seeing as his own mana was getting dangerously low he decided it was time for him to bail.

Dissolving his shields he let himself fall down, ignoring the surviving creatures he pulled all six remaining blades and had then flying around his body, he waited until the last possible moment trying to get as close to the ground as he could before opening his parachute, with his power it wasn’t really necessary but he wanted to keep a minimum amount of mana for any eventuality

Barely three seconds after he opened the parachute three arrows pierced holes into it, he could already see the Einherjar on the ground shooting up, whipping his blades around he managed to deflect some of the arrows and actually pierce one of the harpies that had dived with its talons extended

He started to lose control of his ragged parachute so he released it’s straps and let himself fall down feet first, creating a bellow his feet he waited until he was very close to the ground before slowing himself down, his blades were furiously rotating around him blocking all arrows, he also saw a couple more harpies fall down from his team’s fire, coming to a stop 15 meters above the ground he jumped down lifting his knees and rolling when he hit, his armor absorbed the fall completely and he quickly turned around pulling his rifle and searching for more targets.

“they gave up” said Eric as he offered him a hand, he still searched the skies and saw the boss with only about seven followers beating their wings well away from their shooting range, they stayed looking at him for a while but turned around and flew away, he had a feeling they were not finished yet, turning towards Beta 2 he saw his team leader was still on the ground “You okay?” “They fucked up my parachute when I was close to the ground, the armor held but I broke my legs and drove the damn arrow further in”

Turning towards Eric he asked “How many have we lost?” “Eight dead and another three wounded, cursed birds” from the ground Beta 2 grunted “Get me Beta 7 I need the doctor” “They managed to drop him sir” answered Eric “Goddamnit! Jose get over here then!” another Einherjar came closer, letting the healer deal with Beta 2 Aaron pulled Eric away.

“Where are we” he asked “We fell at Zug island, we are about 12 kilometers from the survivor camp” putting a hand on his chin he thought “The equipment, can it be recovered?” “Probably, it didn’t fall into the river so it’s just a question of getting it out of the wreckage” “Ok here is what we are gonna do, get the wounded back on their feet even if you have to use potions then we go to the camp, deal with those bears, finally we get some of the survivors to help recover their weapons while we hunt those fucking birds out of the sky”
