《An Average Zombie's Path of Evolution》Chapter 16 - Clash

“Ah, What the hell is that!”
A group of survivors were having lunch when the sound of the trembling ground caught their attention. In the distance a huge cloud of dirt was quickly approaching, menacing howls echoed in the sky, at the front of the horde a very fast zombie was quickly dashing towards the city entrance.
“Quick Sound the alarm!, also reinforce the city checkpoint!”
*raaannng* *raaannng* *raaannng* (Civil alarm siren)
“Code Red, Imminent attack detected; All civilians are to stay in their dwellings/hold their positions.”
Troops of soldiers and armed civilians began reinforcing their streets and homes, while most of the other soldiers began reinforcing the city checkpoint, where the horde was expected to impact. Many civilians even began to reinforce their neighborhoods and even set up roadblocks.
While everyone was either getting ready or panicking there were also those who took advantage of the situation and began to sneak around and start stealing objects that they like or the rations of others.
The churches were rapidly flooded, since they became public shelters protected by both the public and the army many decided to take shelter at them, or at least leave their kids or family as they began to prepare for the worst scenario in which they may have to fight against the horde themselves.
At the city checkpoint a large blockade was formed with fences, civil blockade tools, police equipment and large vehicles. Several vehicles were mounted with machine guns, explosive weapons, and even survivors with holding blunt weapons and molotov cocktails.
At the front of the defence several bear traps and even landmines were hastily planted, they estimated around 30,000 zombies in this zombie horde therefore they didn't spare any effort nor materials when it came to reinforcing the city checkpoint.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A serious look appeared in my face as I neared the city, I'm sure the city is already aware of our presence and should be hastily preparing to meet us head on.
Our footsteps made the ground tremble, and even caused the asphalt to crack and break apart, Our growls caused the air to vibrate as our momentum increased. Many other groups of zombies kept on joining us as we made our way towards the city entrance, where i'm sure is the the city’s special checkpoint

Since my goal is to destroy the city I decided it would be best to clash against them head on, decimate their main strength, and completely wipe out the civilian outposts in the city.
We were several hundred meters from the city checkpoint when I noticed they really spared nothing to reinforce their city, They prepared a lot of gifts to greet us.
“GRAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
I gave a large scream which probably translates to “attack” in zombie. Soon the crowd riled up and their speed dramatically increased, I also increased my speed as I lead the horde.
*bratatatatatatata*(Gun noises, I guess)
Soon a barrage of bullets started raining down on us, the stronger zombies positioned in the front were not affected by the bullets from directly in front of us, and even shielded the weaker zombies, however the machine guns positioned in high places such as the guard towers quickly began to mow down the weaker zombies at the back.
Suddenly my pupil shrunk as a small shiver ran through my spine; burning my reserve energy, I activated my kagune and turned wiped my blade whips forward.
*Cang* Clang*
I slapped away two large and pointy bullets that were heading towards my head and heart, I looked at the direction the bullets originated from and quickly spotted a hidden sniper on a building about a kilometer away.
When he saw I actually hit his bullets his face paled as he fled from the building.
‘Oh no you don’t’ I think to myself as I rip out a metal rod from a nearby piece of concrete, I see the dim figure running through the emergency stairs located on the outside of the apartment building he was on.
I carefully aimed and took a deep breath
*Booom*
A small shockwave formed as I threw the metal rod towards the sniper guy, It quickly arrived before him who was climbing down a rusty ladder and pierced right through his back and into his heart.
Nearby survivors were only able to see me throw something, but they didn't know what I threw nor where I threw it since their vision was greatly inferior.
Dashing past several cars, landmines and other obstacles I quickly arrived before a red truck with a mounted machine gun, a group of six survivors with rifles were constantly firing at the horde.

Like a flash I appeared before them, my kagune’s tendrils lashed out and minced them into pieces, upon seeing their blood my senses took over as I frantically picked up a severed leg and devoured it up to the bone.
“You Bastard!”
A Survivor wearing a road crossing uniform lashed out at me with a red firefighter axe, the axe impacted me back and made me spit out some flesh, however it caused no sort of real damage to me.
“YOU DARE DISTURB MY MEAL!”
Hearing my shout the survivor’s face paled as he looked at me in horror, his body trembled as his head was swiftly severed from his body.
*Tremble* *Tremble* *Tremble*
The main body of the zombie wave finally hit, all the obstacles the city set were easily crushed, pushed aside or torn down by the impact of over three million kilograms of flesh moving at a speed of about 40 km/h.
Loud screams rang as guard towers were knocked down, groups of hunters pounced anyone that tried to flee and the unending waves of undead cornered every human in the blockade.
*Boooom* *Booom* *Booom*
Loud explosions filled the night sky as mortars and other explosives constantly rained on the undead wave. A large amount of burning zombies kept on moving even as their skin combusted and peeled off, even zombies who lost their limbs kept the unending assault going as they crawled through the ground.
We were about to break through to the outer city into the inner city , however a new enemy showed up.
A small but muscular man wielding a baseball bat killed any undead who attempted to cross.
His swings sent groups of undead flying, after each swing a red glow radiated off the bat.
“Grawwwww”
I short howl and alerted the zombies to step back. They immediately listened and retreated behind me.
That's when I began to speak, in an improvised chuunibyou sounding way.
“For going against the lord of the dead, and impeding our progress, I lord sparks will personally eliminate you! Be Proud human, to be killed by me is a huge honor!”
‘Well there is no lord of the dead, well none that I know of.’ I think to myself.
“An undead that could speak, you must be the horde’s leader, for killing all these innocent lives, I will make you pay!”
He spoke with both anger and pride in his voice.
He charged towards me, as his body lifted of the ground, the asphalt below him cracked. Like a dark flash he appeared in front of me, his bat piercing towards me, I quickly block with four of my kagune’s tendrils, and lash the other four at him.
*Clang* The impact sends my body flying several feet back, and at the same time my tendrils force the man back several feet.
‘That bat, it's definitely not made of normal metal’
I send all my tendrils at him again, as he hits them away with his bat, I rapidly send a barrage of fists at him, he also blocked them with the bat and caused my hands to start burning.
One of my fists manages to sneak through the bat and head towards his torso, however he meets it with his other hand that let go of the bat, he’s pushed back several steps before regaining his balance..
I try to quickly take advantage and lash out my tendrils again, however he quickly meets them with his bat. I kept on lashing my tendrils out at him non-stop in an attempt to tire him out and each time he tried to get close to me I rapidly retreated away from him.
The Speed of my attacks quickly increases as large droplets of sweat drip down the man’s face, one of my tendrils sneakily lashes at his legs, he attempted to dodge it but it only result was my tendril slashing his achilles tendon into two pieces.
“Argg” as he falls to his side he gives an agonized growl, he looked towards my direction but all he saw was a blur. A fist rapidly appeared behind his head. The impact instantly caved his head in, brain matter bursted around the area as several streams of blood sprayed the road.
“Graaaaaaa”
All The zombies riled up and the survivors maintaining the blockade paled as they attempted to make a run for it.
All That's left is to slaughter the inner city, sooner or later this will become the first main base for our race.

Magnus
Updates daily at 23:06 UTC. 2/1/2021 NOTE! This trilogy is being published by Aethon Books starting with book one on 5/1/2021. All books have been removed from RoyalRoad. This story was posted on RR in its entirety before being removed. Magnus Cromwell kills for a living. He’s organized, professional, efficient. Like a machine. But when his family’s life is on the line? That’s something else. That calls for the kind of warm-blooded vengeance that scorches earth and summons tungsten rods from space, leaves a whole lot of melted flesh, and no one to tell the tale. It should've been a blue milk run. As by-the-book as it gets. With his sister Nina out safe and the opposition decimated by hypersonic gunfire, MC wondered where they got the guts to even try. Then something hits him. Lays him out cold, and leaves him waking up to a fantasyland with nothing but his armor and a half-written note to guide him. It's a strange place where even stranger predators eye him for their next meal. Where his life’s on a timer, and where the darkest horrors haunt his dreams, painting visions of death. There's no right day to mess with Magnus Cromwell. But the universe sure managed to pick the absolute worst one. --- - MC is stone-cold, strong(OP), and gets even stronger, but he'll still face his fair share of challenges, both internal and external. - LitRPG-lite. No stats and an unconventional system. Expect abilities and progressions, but there will only ever be a handful of them. - Science Fiction and Fantasy collide, with a touch of mystery, Lovecraft, and body horror. - Professionally painted art scenes! - This series is finished. A Huge thank you to RoyalRoader MikeWe for the banner, and to NoDragons for his help editing the synopsis. NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY: The Adventures of The Creeping Bam (BOOK TWO: One Cold Trail)
After their fateful misadventure in the mountainous Norther Reaches of RUNDAO, a dark new threat to all of RUNDAO has been revealed to the mercenary band of THE CREEPING BAM and their newest member, half-orc bandit SHAYLINE SWIFT-KILL. Returning their hard-won cargo to THE SILVER ORDER in their city stronghold in BAVAT, they find their well-deserved rest will have to rest – half-elf wizard GAEL FOXTAIL’s father has disappeared while performing an investigation in the coastal city of UNTERMER, and it’s up to our motley crew to find him. As a son of Untermer, wily bakaneko thief ART OF SHADOWS is the perfect choice to lead the way, but he has ghosts of his own to face as their investigation brings them into the orbit of the THIEVES GUILD. But there are daker forces at work here, and as they uncover a dark conspiracy and form an uneasy alliance with a trio of tough sellswords with their own stake in the game, led by dwarven warrior THELGAEWYNN FROSTFORGE, the Creeping Bam begin to suspect this may be connected to that unfinished business they started back up north … This is a love letter and homage to the high-fantasy worlds of the tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Warhammer and the sword & sorcery cinema and literature I fell in love with as a kid growing up in the 80s, from Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian (and the awesome Schwarzenegger movie, STILL my favourite fantasy film EVER), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Ron Howard and George Lucas’ Willow, to the more grown-up and edgy worlds of grimdark masters George RR Martin and (my all-time favourite) Joe Abercrombie, as well as a BIG DOLLOP of Terry Pratchett’s immortal Discworld series. IMPORTANT: This story contains material which some readers may consider to be mature, such as battle violence, some strong language and occasional mild sexual scenes. If this is not your kind of thing, this story is not for you. I am also serializing this story on Tumblr, Wattpad, Quotev and Sweek.
