《Shadow Emperor》Chapter 1

In a dark descolate forest filled with mist and a heavy scent of decay. A permanent cloud covering enshroud the forest below allowing very little light to fall on its surface.
Within the forest there were various areas of danger sown about. One area was a swamp filled with foul smelling ponds filled with a myriad of strange creatures and dangerous flora. Giant alligators, Shadow Crows, Swamp Hags, Gallow Trees. Each a deadly creature who feasted on the blood and flesh of any who traveled into their domain.
Another area nearby is filled with various undead. Shambling Corpses and Wights roam about searching for any form of life.
But right in the center of all of these areas lies a tower roughly 50 meters in height carved from some form of black stone.
From its base a strange grey colored vine grew along its sides, protruding silver colored thorns each a foot long.
As night fell over this tower in one corner dim candlelight leaked through a small narrow window.
A 15 year old boy with raven black hair was sitting at a desk hunched over a large leather bound book. His emerald green eyes glared at the pages under a furrowed brow.
Savani, once Alex, arrived in this world 5 years ago. Once a normal college student, Alex ended up being kidnapped while on a foreign exchange trip with a sister college in another country. There he was taken to a lab and experimented on. The organization who kidnapped him were apparently trying to develop a chip using nanobots that would help boost a humans senses and use the feedback to spot potential dangers in the area. They also designed it to be able to store a vast amount of data and help soldiers process information for missions.
Sadly during one of the experiments Alex died due to his mind stroking out from the sheer amount of information. However strangely he found himself reborn into a new body in a strange land.

Savani sighed and rubbed his head. Ever since being reborn into this world he would have frequent headaches. Whenever they appeared he would get flashbacks to that time when the chip was implanted into him and the overwhelming amount of information that his mind couldn't handle.
Sighing waiting for the pounding behind his brow to end, Savani looked out his window onto the desolate landscape. He couldn't help but lament that this was no longer the Earth he knew. Reborn in the body of a small time nobles son Savani quickly learned this world was far different from the one he once knew.
This world was a world of magic where mages, demons, and monsters roamed freely. Where the elements could actually be absorbed and manipulated and where the strong prevailed. Where things like souls and voodoo weren't just myths and theories but proven facts. For several years Savani used his status as a noble to get an understanding on this world.
In this world the population could be broken down into three categories: the mortals, the apprentices, and the Sages. The mortals were by far the most common, as well as the lowest class. These were those not destined to be able to sense any of the elements, or those that didn't have the body capable of absorbing them.
The apprentices were those lucky enough to both have a good affinity with one or multiple elements that reside in the world as well as a physique that was capable of absorbing them. These apprentices were those who could begin to wield the powers of the world and begin the journey to true power.
Finally there were the Sages. These were the true rulers of the world. Apprentices who had managed to absorb enough elemental energy as well as modify their body enough to evolve into a higher form of life. They were those that had begun to understand the laws that govern the plane of existence that they lived on and could wield absolute power.

Six months ago Savani was taken to be tested like all other noble children. It was found that he had a high compatability with the darkness element as well as a body that could absorb the elements. When the local Sage Association found out that they had a potential apprentice on hand they welcomed him and assigned him to the tower he currently stayed at.
This tower was run by a Sage named Lance who specialized in Necromancy and who converted the area into an area where the darkness elements were rich. Currently Savani had been staying at this tower for a month while he learned the basics of magic.
To others becoming an apprentice would be a thing of envy but to Savani it was far from enviable. An apprentices world was a world of self interest and danger. After a months training period where the apprentice was given the minimum understanding of magic they were left to their own. No resources would be given beyond a bed to sleep in, and even that was in cramped rooms. If they wanted anything else they had to find some way to pay for it.
Often times this meant going into the surrounding areas to gather magical ingredients for the tower. However doing so would be increadibly dangerous. The influx of darkness energy into the surroundings made many demonic and undead creatures roam the woods. There were often times when apprentices would die at the hands of a zombie that grabbed them from behind or from some creature that surprised them.
Looking back to his book Savani began to frown. His month of free education ended tomorrow with him getting to choose one free spell module. After that he would be left to his own devises. If he wanted to browse any other spells or learn a profession he would have to pay for it. Sadly Savani had no money beyond a few gold coins and some gems his father gave him. To others a few gold coins could last them years but here that level of money was almost worthless!
Sighing in frustration Savani tried to get back to reading but suddenly his head began to feel like it was tearing in two! With a scream Savani crumpled to the floor as his mind betrayed him. His body began to sieze as his mind began to throb with a pain so piercing it couldn't be described. But as quickly as it came the pain went followed by a strange beeping.
*Beep* [Intigration has completed. Assistance chip Serial number XVR4387115 now online. Begining to calibrate to host. Gathering data from hosts mind. Connecting to neural pathways. Neural pathways connected. Now establishing database for host...]
Groaning Savani sat back up into a sitting position as a strange robotic voice appeared in his head. Shaking off the residual pain Savani opened his eyes as the impact of what happened hit him. That blasted chip that killed him somehow followed him to this world!

The boy who fell in love with a tree
This is a story about a boy who fell in love with a tree… A story about powerful people changing the rulebook to stack the odds and line their pockets… I aim to create a story that will transport us so we get a glimpse of what that boy felt. The first 4 Chapters might be classified as a prologue depending on how you look at it. The boy quickly grows and the story really starts when the System arrives on Earth. I’m trying to achieve a relatively slow power progression and guide what we learn at a pace following the people in the story. There will be fighting but It’s more focused on base building. The MC is not all-powerful and all-knowing but he has some significant advantages. I’m trying to create a universe that makes sense in its own context. Much of what you will find, are my own world views, in a magnified way, as to make it for interesting fiction. The story took a life of its own when I started to write and I’m really happy with it. Not all of the tags I have marked will immediately be applied. There is stuff planned for far in the future such as the Sci-fi tag. There might be some cursing and gore but it is not very often. -------------- English is not my primary language, so I ask everyone to be forgiving. If you see a glaring error I would appreciate a msg but it is not feasible to fix everything. And if the story offends you, I wish you happiness, reading what you enjoy. ------------- Img link: https://unsplash.com/photos/EwKXn5CapA4

Techno-Heretic
Eli is an ancient man sentenced to death for the crime of surpassing the sacred number of 32.8, which is the allowed percentage of increased mental ability from the use of AI chips. As he journeys through death and into a world of fantasy and magic, he finds himself approaching never before seen heights of magical power and ability. Powers that will shape the world and would see him go down in legends for generations ever after. But just because someone acquires magical abilities, that doesn't mean magic is suddenly the most important thing in their life. Some people aren't looking to be all-powerful gods, have the world bow at their feet, or spend their days obsessing over accumulating ever more power. Some people just want acceptance, stability, and the warmth of their loved ones to drive away the cold loneliness of the night. And in a world where magic is the bedrock of society, where magic is what determines who is preferred for siring children, where people with high magical ability are destined to live in great luxury and those without magic simply live to make due, this difference in values and perspective could not have a starker contrast. As Eli and the people around him navigate the misconceptions and deceptions of this world, he will represent a great and magnificent future for the human race. One where humanity will stand above the elves, dwarves, orcs, fairies, and all the horrors of the world. Sadly, men's tools are as fallible as the people who make them, and in a society where the potential of an individual is determined solely through their magical level, this seed of promise may yet turn venomous.
