Volume 1 Chapter 9: Coincidence

We arrived at, presumably, the noble district as the houses were made out of high quality materials.

The designs of the houses are somewhat medieval…

Looking at a distance, I can see a large crowd gathered. All of them were carrying some sort of weapon.

The crowd seems to be angry and confused at the same time, some soldiers could be seen among them.

It doesn’t seem that they will kill each other… but I have a feeling that I should not go towards that crowd.

But still, it makes me wonder as to when the soldiers appeared or arrived. Let’s leave that question alone for now.

Haha~ and here I thought that I can finally relax while looking around, sightseeing and what not…

Me: “I don’t think standing here would do us any good. Lina, your house is near here right? Is it ok for us to stay there for a bit?”

Well, I think we can just go to an Inn or something but… I think it’s much safer to go to Lina’s house.

The atmosphere here is kinda strange…

Lina: “Hm? Yes, my house is just near here and its fine to stay there. After all, I did stay at your wonderful house~”

Me: “Wonderful? I think you are just exaggerating… but if I were to compare it with the houses here… Well, I can say that my house is unique…”

Feru & Lina: “Hahaha”

The three of us continued walking.

Both Feru and Lina are in front of me talking to each other like friends, makes me wonder how the two of them easily became friends,

While I kept myself quiet while I walk behind them and look around.

It seems that we already gathered a lot of attention… but it was weird though.

Everyone was looking at us- no, specifically, Feru with red faces…

When I said everyone, I meant both men and women…

They just stood there, staring at Feru. None of them even willed themselves to approach her.

Well~ Even if they did, I’ll give them a good dose of Death Aura.

I somehow feel like an over protective father… Oh well~

After some time of walking around carrying the strange atmosphere around us, we finally reached Lina’s house without any problems… I hope?

We passed through the gate and headed towards the Large house- eh, uh, Mansion?

Lina spoke up as she opened the door of her house… wait, don’t you need a key or some kind to open a door?

Lina: “Please make yourselves at home”

Feru: “E-Excuse us~”

Me: “Pardon the intrusion~”

Lina sounded happy as she gestured us to come in while Feru sounded kinda shy, which is kinda cute if you ask me.

As we entered, we saw a middle aged man, wearing high quality clothes and a sword (Saber) sheathed at his waist, yelling angrily at some people in uniform (maids and butlers)…

I-Is this a bad time?

Aged Man: “What do you mean she’s still not here!?”

Maid: “B-But… S-Sir, L-Lady Lina tried to e-escape and call for h-help yesterday…”

Aged Man: “Why didn’t you stop her!? And where is she now!?”

“……”

Everyone became silent…

I can sense the rage coming from of the middle aged man, and also the fear and sadness coming from the staff(?).

Lina: “Dad!”

Aged Man: “ !? “

Lina ran towards her father and hugged him tightly, the middle aged man was surprised and happy as he also hugged her daughter.

Ah~ such heartwarming scene… but I think Feru and I are a disturbance here, should we leave for now?

The two stayed together like that for a minute or so and…

Lina: “Uhh… Dad, I think that this hug is long enough… could you let me go? My friends are also watching…”

Lina’s Father: “Ah! Sorry, Sorry, My emotions got the better of me… I was really worried you know”

Lina’s Father apologizes as he stands up and looks towards Feru, which made his face red, and spoke…

Lina’s Father: “You must be my daughter’s friend, you must’ve helped her-“

The man’s gentle looking eyes changed into a fierce one when he saw me… I felt some hostility!

With just a step, he instantaneously appeared in front of us with his sword out of it sheath!

He is fast!… But I’m faster!

Since I was behind Feru and she might get injured, I quickly grabbed her with my left arm and embraced her while my right hand pulls out a dagger, which I got from the invaders, from my belt and block his attack.

The weird feeling that I got from silent night came back… My thoughts starts turning dark as I let out a smile.

Good thing I can still control my movements… or else I could’ve killed Lina’s father.

I’ll make sure to apologize later if someone gets hurt or injured.

Since I successfully blocked his attack earlier, both of our blades were locked together.

I pushed through using my strength… but I accidentally sent him flying towards the wall on the far side of the room.

The staff went towards him in a panic, but some of them stood there with a shocked expression.

Me: “…S-Sorry”

Lina: “…you held back… right?”

Me: “…I’m sure I did”

After apologizing to Lina a few more times, even when she said it was fine I continued apologizing, I immediately casted Divine Intervention on Lina’s father and placed him on the couch nearby…

Lina sat down beside her father and Feru sat at the opposite chair while I stood up behind her…

When they asked me ‘why’ I answered “So I can immediately avoid being attacked!” which made everyone who heard me smile wryly.

Lina ordered the staff to leave us for a bit.

A few seconds later, Lina’s father woke up… ready to draw his sword and strike me down…

But before he could stand up, Lina hit him in the back of the head and yell…

Lina: “Dad! Stop! Those two are my friends!”

Hearing this, the man just sat there and glares at me… It feels like you’re making a hole! Stop!

Lina: “Anyway, why are you trying to kill them already?”

Me: “Oh? Is this a usual occurrence?”

Lina: “……”

Lina can only give out a wry smile… and continues to question her father.

Lina’s father: “That boy over there… he’s giving off a very dangerous aura…”

The man looks over to me… still trying to make a hole with his stares… Just stop!

“……”

All of us became silent for a while… until Feru interjected and spoke…

Feru: “W-Why don’t we introduce ourselves first…”

Lina’s father: “Ah! Yes! Where are my manners! My apologies, my name is Struct Sylvitus. I am one of the representatives that govern the kingdom of Maltis”

Nice one Feru! And why the heck did your attitude change old man!?

I don’t think you had manners when you attacked me!

I also checked his status window while he spoke… He’s quite high leveled, if I didn’t have [Zodiac] equipped… I’m sure that I’m in deep trouble. I need to be careful here…

Me: “Representative that governs Maltis? What’s that?”

Struct: “you don’t know? Where the hell have you been?”

Me: “We are not from around here, so we are not fully informed of what’s happening here… Can you help us?”

Struct looks at me with suspicion but relented when Lina elbowed him from the side… that looked like it hurt.

Anyway~ This is a good chance to acquire some knowledge! The one who gathers the most knowledge wins!

Since the library is somehow off limits, due to the troubles outside, I’ll just make do with Struct.

They even lent me some books here, even though it’s in a different language I was able to understand them.

Struct began explaining some stuff to Feru about the Kingdom of Maltis, or more specifically, the incident about the invaders. Even Lina who experienced the incident was listening attentively on the topic.

I was partially listening to Struct’s explanation while reading a book about religions… because every time I interrupted him with a question. He just stare daggers at me, and my question was either ignored, left unanswered or Lina supplementing the answer.

Either way… I finally got some general information:

[Struct]

The system that Maltis runs in is Aristocracy, I think, in which the Kingdom is controlled by a small group of qualified people, the group is called The Council of Maltis, and Struct is one of those people who’re qualified.

The people who’re qualified came from different Kingdoms, which is based on their races.

Human, Elf, Beast men, Nymph, Demon and Celestials…

And about the recent incident that took place… It seems that a shady religion has started something big, as it involved the whole central continent… and it might even involve the whole world.

It’s still under investigation as the representatives of the royal family, from different Kingdoms, are announced to arrive in Maltis to give support, while the Council will have a meeting tomorrow to discuss what to do…

[Book]

I learned only a little bit of about religion from the book…

They worshipped object pertained to have unbelievable power…

They worshipped Beings and Creatures that have obtained divinity…

They worshipped something about the [Goddess of Life and Death] and [God of calamity]… it was barely described here…

I thought that I was the first [God] here in Veran… was there a mistake or some kind?

Hmm… a shady religion starting something… if it’s a religion then they must have a belief and worship a being right?

Looking at the book I can’t help but worry about something…

Just in case… Let’s just ask them…

Me: “This shady religion… do they worship something in particular…?”

Everyone looks at me when I said this and Struct… He looks at me and then looks at the book, he seems to understand my intentions and answered my question without giving me that suspicious look anymore.

Struct: “Hmm… I went around town earlier, there are some people say that invaders were saying something about receiving [God]’s favor and to have their wish granted”

I don’t think I saw this [God] in the book… a new one maybe? Let’s ask.

Me: “Do you know anything about that [God]?”

Struct: “Hmm… I think it’s one of the prophecies given to us by the divine beings…”

Me: “Prophecies? Do you still know it?”

Struct: “I think It’s written in that book, give it to me for a moment…”

Me: “Here you go”

I threw the book towards him… he caught it easily.

With a bit of searching (flipping the pages), he finally found what he was looking for…

Struct: “It says that a divine creature that has the ability to see into the future wrote down a prophecy pertaining about two [Gods]…

The first prophecy is about the [God of Calamity],

A boy with unspeakable darkness shall descend upon the world and bear its judgment towards those who have done wrong… but do not be afraid of him, as those who gained his favor shall receive the thing they desired the most…

The second prophecy is about the [Goddess of life and death],

A girl with black hair, blue eyes, divine charms and a set of jet black wings shall appear after the calamity she is said to be wielding a scythe that shall be the salvation of all… she bears the goodwill of all… she is to be respected as she… fate itself…

Both of the prophecies were very old and are missing a few lines on them. There are even some strange texts unto it which was still not decrypted. The originals were carved on a black obelisk… but it was destroyed centuries ago and these are the remaining record of the two prophecies”

Me: “So there are many religions based on that?”

Struct: “There were quite many religions based on the second prophecy as it was the most accepted… the first prophecy was shunned and was never properly accepted, except for some…”

Me: “Is that so? Then that shady religion is from the first prophecy right?”

Struct looks at me with suspicion again…

It seems he thinks that I knew something but before I could speak, something else caught my attention…

Feru seems to be fidgety… ‘did you do something again?’ as I would want to say but looking at her… It was different…

I leaned in closer and whispered something audible only to her…

Me: “Is something the matter?”

Feru: “I-I think the second prophecy is describing me…”

Me: “Are you sure? I don’t think you have something like wings or a scythe… do you?”

Feru nods her head… I don’t know what made her say that but it made me think…

If what Feru said was true… then the prophecy is portraying her and it’s quite accurate…

Wait… Wait… Wait… Wait… Let’s calm down and think for a bit…

A girl with black hair, blue eyes, divine charms, a set of jet black wings, and a scythe…

If I were to compare Feru with that description…

The first three on the list is checked. What about divine charms?

… Don’t tell me… Charm aura!? On our way here people were looking at Feru with red faces…

Black wings and a scythe… Feru said so herself, she has both of those… I don’t think she would lie something about that.

No… I’m not quite sure… It’s just a coincidence right?

But let’s try and compare the first one with me… let’s just try… just trying…

I am a boy… The darkness, it represents that skill… I was falling from the sky when I first came here… What happen that night… I always return favors…

It’s just a coincidence… right? RIGHT!?

Struct did say something about strange texts right? Maybe I could read it with my title’s special effects!

Me: “Struct, let me borrow that book for a sec…”

Struct threw the book towards me, which I caught it quite easily…

I immediately looked at the text containing the prophecies… there is one word that I can understand…

Well~ It was written in English… and it made me perplexed…

[Feruniru, The Goddess of Life and Death]

Struct: “Ah! You still haven’t introduced yourselves…”

Struct began looking at me with those eyes again… no, it seems he’s sure about something…

Either way, it seems that this is a best time to execute my original plan?

As an opportunist, this opportunity is quite a blessing~
