《Contract: Restart》Chapter 9

Two months has passed and I haven’t had the luxury of living a comfortable life in the wilds. Having been alert everyday every second I was in the constant fear of being dragged by Mr. Grim reaper to his home. Even at night I hardly had the comfort of sleeping. Deadly monstrous hyenas often attacked me when I have my guard down at night.

I was lurking in the shadows. Stalking .Waiting for it to make it’s mistake. It chewed on a chunk of meat as it continued to gobble it up little by little. I finally found the opportunity and struck him with my spear. Splat! Blood gushed out as my spear made contact with another hairy balls.
It’s neck gave way as my spear was manifested with mana. I continued bombarding It with thrust and each strike dealing more damage than the first. The creature no longer taking the punishment finally went down in an pool of blood.
I took every available part of the creature that can serve me. I went back to my camp with my looted hide meat and horn. I retraced my trail as I placed numerous traps on my camp and monsters occasionally fall to my traps. My camp consisted of a makeshift tent made from the hide of the creature I called hairy balls. It’s hide served as the tarp and floor while the fur on its neck I made to a cozy pillow stuffed with numerous leaves.
I started to sharpen my spears that was made out of hairy balls’ horn. I had numerous numbers of them although they may appear sturdy they were actually quite brittle thus I occasionally search for flint to create a small skinning knife.

In my two months in the wild I haven’t went to the northern area where it was almost barren but somehow I could feel ominous presence from it thus I didn’t went there. I gathered up my tools and started packing. But today, now that I was prepared I’m going to start the exploration.
I started to make my way north It appeared to be closer than it looked but to my estimation it was a couple of kilometers from my place. I placed my pack on my shoulder and grabbed my horn spear.
Ding!
You have equipped horn spear damage change to 90-110
The journey was rather uneventful I took a couple of rest and occasionally hunted some hairy balls. They were the only monsters that I have hunted in the savanna and if you’re curious on what their levels are there level 20. So once I reached past level 20 I started gaining less levels.

It took a total of two weeks to reach the place. What greeted me was a huge and vast array of plateau that almost drowned the other half of savanna. Although the place looked barren there was a few wild plants that grew on the side of cliffs. But still there was no trees in the place offering from little to no shade at all. The sweltering heat of the sun beat on my skin so I went and tried to find a secure place to set up camp.
It took a few minutes to set up the tent and once that was done I made another couple of minutes to create a pitfall. I then started to create more pitfalls which resulted in me digging the hard and dusty ground of the terrain. I’m sure there was some monsters in here or probably none but it was best to be prepared. That’s what I learned for living in the wild for two months now. Always be prepared!
The sun started to set so I finished patching up the pitfall that it blended perfectly with the ground. I then returned to my camp and went there to rest.
The next day I woke up early and started to find creatures that roam here. It took me a few hours until I finally found a creature. It appeared to be a giant bear with orange hide and was about 8 ft. tall. Its giant figure loomed at the horizon and quickly tried to hide. I stalked it for a couple of hours and finally went in for the kill.
I jumped at its back and manifesting my mana at my spear. Black mist appeared in my spear and quickly hardened.
“Dark Pierce!”
A sharp ray of black and red quickly sank at the bear’s right chest. It growled in pain and quickly counter attacked at the offender. Its aggressive black eyes almost seemed to pierce my soul. It lifted its paws and quickly gave a large strike.
I quickly ducked and rolled at the side to avoid its swing. I’m pretty sure that one hit from it will quickly send you flying. It quickly sent out more aggressive strikes and swings. I bobbed and weaved at its strikes but since it was so large it couldn't keep up with me and I finding the opportunity quickly went to its side and pierced its thigh.
It gave a roar as the spear pierced it and the thigh bled. I quickly drew it out again and leapt back as the bear gave another heavy swing. I kept on the process of hit and run tactics until I finally gave the last blow.
“Dance of the eternal!”
Black and red trails erupted as I was like a ghost hitting there and then disappear and then appear again. I was appearing and disappearing leaving the bear confused until it finally went down on the ground hard. A thud came and the bear was breathing no more. I started skinning the bear and kilos of meat from the bear was enough to last me for weeks. Sadly without any ways of preserving it within days the meat will probably spoil so I took large parts of the meat that could last me for today.

Taking out my flask pretty much was made up of hairy balls’ horn as well. I took a sip of water and went back to my camp to start breakfast. After that hearty meal I started the exploration of the plateau. Hours and a couple of monsters as well as lots of skinning later. I arrived at the highest set of view in the plateau and what my view gave me was a wide and dark ravine that was so deep you couldn’t see what was below.
The ground shifted and a twisting can be heard in the distance. My ear after a couple of weeks was now trained enough to hear a designated person’s voice even in a crowded market. The ground erupted behind me and a giant snake came out.
“What the hell?” I shouted.
The snake like creature pounced at me with its mouth wide opened as if that giant fucking snake in harry potter. I immediately dodge to the right and took out my spear. I manifested my mana and took a fighting stance.
The snake like creature eyed me and its eyes speak of only one thing…prey.
Name: ??? Lvl.: 125
Holy crap the level gap is way more than 50. I can’t hope to survive this one. The creature immediately gave off a strong bloodlust forcing me to quiver in fear and sweat barraged outside my skin like there’s no tomorrow. It gave a small smile. Wait, what the hell did it just smile? Hell no. My legs were jelly and I took great concentration just to keep myself from falling.
Ding!
Willpower plus 5 for resisting a strong bloodlust
Great! I got added stats but that doesn’t help me from my predicament. I readied the spear as the snake creature continued to slither around and eyed me. Its vibrant jade colored scale and venomous looking fangs was protruding out.
“well, well a human in this parts of the country is very rare.” It spoke. It spoke?
Holy crap it can speak! I was taken aback by its sudden language capability and the snake finding an opening pounced yet again and its scales started to glisten flashing in my eyes temporarily blinding me. When I opened my eyes a large mouth was now pressed near my face and seems like It could swallow me hole.
I jumped back and rolled on right again. Its fang managed to graze my shoulder and my cloth immediately tore apart.
“It’s been years since I tasted human flesh. It seems going out of my dungeon once in a while is worth it!” He? Or she?… Let’s just go with it. It hissed with fire in its eyes. This creature was very dangerous I cannot emphasize that enough yet here I am being a fool.
It slithered quickly and surrounded me with its elongated body and then its body wrapped around me fortunately I managed to jumped before It can constrict me but It’s tail made a whip made like movement hitting me on the side fair and square. I flew a couple of meters back close enough to fall down the ravine.
I tried to stand up as the snake like creature continued to slither forward getting closer and closer. My chest tingled in pain. It seems I broke a few ribs and my leg was pretty much broken. Well It seems this is the end.
I closed my eyes as I waited for my death to come. Then crack. A crack emerged at the ground I was standing and then bang. A piece of large rock that I was lying on cracked from it and I fell. I fell on the dark ravine. What the hell am I going to die from falling. I won’t even be able to get a heroic death like being killed by that monster? Curse you oh God of the desolate! The dark fog on the ravine slowly became thicker and thicker as I got further and further down until darkness finally enveloped me.
