《Songs of Legacies: Cavaron [Complete Draft]》Chapter 19

Felrok Temple Ruins.
A remnant of a lost and dark age, and a sad yet bountiful part of Belfron's history. The ancient necromantic arts that is said to have deep roots within the Felrok Empire was born from one of their emperors wish for immortality. The only path available to them was, sadly, through dark magic. Historically, the first Felrok Necromancer was their 33rd emperor, Arch Magus Athanasius.
Athanasius' drive to find the way to immortality went as far as breaking his mind and led him to create the first necromantic ritual that lets him consume the souls of others. This led to the mass sacrifices held against those who opposed him, even his own children. When he consumed the soul of his own daughter, that was the trigger that spread his infuence all across the empire.
The minds of the other magi were infected by the blast of dark energy, and they too began feeding themselves with the souls of living people. One would think that this would have been the cause for the Felrok Empire's downfall but no. The corruption of necromancy enveloped all of the empire and, after consuming more than half of their population, waged war against the other kingdoms by raising an undead army.
The Belfron Continent is one of two continents in this world, the other one is called the Ramsuth Continent and remains unknown due to the volatile weather found between the two continents. The ancient Belfron continent was home to hundreds of small kingdoms that were mostly at war with one another, and the Felrok Empire controlled the western quarter. When Athanasius declared war against the entirety of the continent, even the previously warring kingdoms had to ally themselves to deal with a larger threat. This war was known as the Thanatos War named after Emperor Athanasius, lasted for two hundred years, and only ended when a kingdom succeeded in convoking a divine being to banish the undead.
The remnants of the Felrok Empire were either hunted down or had gone into hiding to recover their strength. Over four hundred years passed, the Felrok Empire was forgotten, and the kingdoms went to war against each other once more. This small and nameless war lasted for another hundred years until a foolish king stumbled upon a record that contained the events of the Thanatos War. Seeking power for his own use, he ordered the search for one of their many temples. A year after, this king found one and reawakened a nightmare long forgotten. Consumed by his greed, he became the catalyst for what was now known as the Undead War.

Hundreds and thousands of cities fell to ruin. The scholars who knew of Belfron's history rallied the kingdoms against an old foe. Pietr Rusvich, a young prince and, at the same time, a scholar, persuaded the Rusvich family to form a strong alliance with the other kingdoms. Thus began a repeat of the Thanatos War. Sadly, the knowledge to summon the divine being was lost to the flames of their foolish skirmishes, and they were left to the mercy of time. Thirty years passed and the alliance magi had a breakthrough, with the help of the Sixteen Great Sages, including Agrithos, they were able to formulate a ritual to summon a champion from another world. It involved the use of one's emotions with mana crystals used to mix emotions and mana. Their dire need and desperation to live and forever abhor war led them to summoning their champion, Cavaron.
"And that's all I can say about a part of this world's history." said Cavaron as he conversed with his Elemental, Shamira. Currently, they were walking through a stone corridor lit with eerie green spectral lamps. Their trip through the ruin was fairly uneventful aside from the small bands of Skeleton Soldiers here and there who immediately attacked anything that was living. That is until Shamira asked him about what he knows about this world.
Shamira was floating by his side like a guardian angel but, as a >, she had a role greater than mere protection. She was adept in not just the field of protection but also in the fields of healing, purification, and combat. Even if she has a spear and shield, her innate abilities allow her to rain holy light against her enemies, especially against followers of the dark arts.
"Then, Cavaron, what happened after thou were summoned?" Shamira asked her contractor just to have some form of entertainment aside from purifying the walking mangled bodies of the undead.
"Eh, I studied under Teacher Agrithos, learned to read glyphs, got another contract, used the glyphs to power some of my equipment, and went off to fight with the Alliance Army against the undead."
Shamira blankly stared at her contractor's ridiculously summarized sequence of events, and nearly hit a pillar, "Uh, then, who was the new contract?" and asked to find out more.
Cavaron stopped walkibg, faced Shamira, and smiled, "You know her, she's your polar opposite."

Shamira blinked twice at his response then realized who he was talking about, "Her!? That wench!?", words unimaginable to be heard from a divine being escaped her lips. It sounded weird when she said so with her heavenly voice as it resounded through the ruin.
*Rumble*
A low rumble was heard as it echoed through the corridor. With each second, it grew louder.
"Haha, I understand her personality is a tad bit questionable, but you have to agree that her abilities are on par with yours. Now then, looks like your scream attracted some more undead from deep within." Cavaron said as he concentrated his >.
*cough* Shamira coughed and breathed deeply to regain her composure, "This one apologizes for the sudden outburst." and hoisted her spear and shield to welcome the incoming undead. "This one shall take responsibility by eliminating the threat."
"Hahaha." Cavaron laughed, "Feel free to do so, I have enough mana to last us for a month." and unsheathed the swords on his waist. He couldn't possibly use the blood and mana swords since it is only effective against those with blood and mana flowing within their bodies. Thus, he resorted to using ordinary weapons, but these swords are not merely "ordinary" if it had lasted with him for so long.
Shamira, who noticed his swords, asked "Thou art still using those?"
"Can't help it, the craftsmanship is superb but only next to the blood and mana swords."
"Where didst thou acquire them?"
"Ahm... from a kingdom of dwarves in one of the worlds I have been to."
"Dwarves? Masters of technology as usual."
"Compared to humans? Not if it is from a science and technology world where magic and ancient arts are nil. Damn, the engineering of those worlds was very eye-opening to be able to last for thousands of years without mana."
"Huh? This one wishes thou to tell a story about those science and technology worlds after this endeavor."
"All right, I'll sate your curiosity after this."
Finally, by this time, a horde of undead flooded the corridor. Skeleton soldiers were up front leading the charge, while some of them were carrying what appear to be ghouls."
"Oh, great. They have ghouls." Cavaron whined, "I hope you have something that can burn through their stiff and rotten flesh.
Skeleton Soldiers were just a pile of walking bones wearing some rusted or tattered pieces of armor, thus were easy to subdue. Ghouls, however, had high defense due to their tough, rotten flesh. Ordinary weapons might do well against them but fire is preferred to burn them down to ashes. Additionally, catching a slight whiff of their rotten flesh can make one sick and stun them for a while. The fact that they still had flesh, they also have powerful muscles that add damage to their attacks albeit slower than skeletons.
"Worry not, this one shall cast a blessing upon thee." Shamira said as she raised her spear over his swords and bathed them in holy light without saying a word. "I placed > upon thy swords that becomes stronger from your vitality."
Cavaron then jumped forward an tested it on a nearby ghoul. A single slash was brought down and cut the target into two, and burned the corpse with holy light. "Wow..." Is all Cavaron could say seeing the power of the blessing.
"That blessing won't be cancelled until thou says so or until the divine power wears off. It should last for an hour or two depending on the intensity of thy vitality. If thou loses enough blood, it will release a blast of holy energy that covers thy immediate surroundings and may blind an enemy with eyes."
"This... this is a bit overpowered... don't you think?" Cavaron was stunned at the benefits of >. Shamira only shrugged at his comment and replied "It's only natural against the followers of the dark arts. Anything else will only have half the current effects."
Indeed, the power that he received should be very effective against the undead and not entirely that powerful against other enemies, say neutrally aligned enemies. It shouldn't even be said that the effects would be reduced against an enemy with the same element.
"Well then, may I ask you to be my partner in this dance?" Cavaron asked Shamira and bowed.
Shamira smiled and bowed back, "This one gladly accepts thine offer."
And thus, a dance of holy retribution rained down the army of undead.
