Present day.
"Alright." Cavaron sat up straight, "All elementals, except for Bronte and Shamira, jump out." Opening the door of the compartment, Culverin, Avani, Tirta, Stormfell, Glacia, and Nox jumped out consecutively. Seeing that Cavaron was alone with Bronte, Aimi, Aomi, and the remaining Spirits, with a deep breath, invoked a command, "All, except Thunder and Light, RELEASE!!" Simultaneously, all of the elementals outside became wrapped in light. A flash of light hid their bodies from view, and when the light faded, each elemental was replaced by their respective Avatars.
Wreathed in red and orange flames, a titanic man bearing flames of creation and destruction, "Fire Avatar, Ignis." A deep voice came out of the giant covered with fire and brimstone. Next to Culverin/Ignis, Avani and Tirta assumed their own Avatars, Terra and Aqua, respectively. A goddess of earth, and a goddess of water reappeared once more. Next, Stormfell became wrapped in green light. However, instead of assuming a humanoid appearance, he became a massive 15-foot griffin that, with each flap of its wings, produced powerful gusts of wind able to erode stone down to dust. "Wind Avatar, Ventus" a noble voice came out of Stormfell/Ventus' beak as he, a glorious griffin, flew around the sky. A little bit above them, Glacia was caged in ice. The ice itself shone a brilliant blue light and shattered, revealing a beautiful werewolf covered with crystals of ice, "Ice Avatar, Crystallos." Finally, high above them was a dark entity, shifting in shape. The dark mass soon assumed a humanoid from with horns, bat-like wings, and a long slender tail. Nox lost his noble, lordly form, and transformed into a devil. "Darkness Avatar, Diablos."
Six elementals, six avatars of fire, earth, water, wind, ice, and darkness began descending at rapid speed down to the ground, with the exception of Stormfell/Ventus who began to conjure massive blades of wind in midair. The Azuals down below, still in chaos due to the efforts of the Three Gems, became frantic as they saw the six avatars descending like meteors.

A few hundred kilometers to the west, the human army.
"What were those bright lights, Gunther?" asked Gulfried to the War Spirit next to him. The War Spirit looked over the horizon, and saw a myriad of flashing lights. Looking at Gulfried, "Aside from the massive fluctuation of mana a few minutes before, those lights are the release of the Avatars. We need to go faster even if it means leaving behind the slower soldiers." he replied. Gulfried's brows creased, and he looked behind him towards the other soldiers. With a deep breath, he shouted an order, "CAVALRY! CHARGE!!!" More than 3 million mounted units left the main body, and went forward. The ones left behind were mostly foot soldiers, heavy armor, and mages. With another deep breath, "ALL WHO ARE CONFIDENT OF THEIR SPEED MAY CHARGE AS WELL!!!" shouted Gulfried's. This time, lights and magical arrays appeared beneath the mages. Wrapped in magic, they strengthened themselves and those around them to reach speeds far beyond their ordinary bodies. A rough estimate of around 12 million fast moving combatants left to charge forward, not minding the vast distance they have to cover. High above the ground troops, 300 thousand knights mounted on wyverns were charging with them.

Gulfried, along with Gunther, and his personal guard became wrapped in light with Gunther at the center, "I, a general who commands, command thee to aid us to reach our enemies! Let our conviction sharpen our blades!! GLORIOUS CHARGE!!!" Gunther cried as loud as he can, and his mount neighed along with him. The light he produced encompassed all of the soldiers around him, including Gulfried, and many of their mounts. The horses neighed, and the wyverns roared. Incomparable strength welled up within Gulfried and the soldiers, causing them to cry as well. "AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! CHARGE AGAINST OUR ENEMIES!!!" With no other outlet for the overwhelming power they received, what may seem like a day's march got reduced to a few hours, and charged with all their might leaving those who were too slow stunned by the sudden event.
"Now what?" An officer asked another officer. The one he asked just looked at the others before replying, "Well, I'm pretty sure that they'll need reinforcements, and seeing how they got pumped up beyond belief... I believe they won't get tired even after they've reached their destination." Another officer came before them, "Let's just follow behind them." The other two officers nodded in agreement, and passed on the new orders to the rest.

Far to the east, where the demon army was.
"Hey, Essy. Better get yer fast movers out front. We 'ave a war ta win." A crimson haired woman said to the demon in front of her. "What do you mean by 'Essy'? And what were those lights, Bellatrix?" asked the dragon-minotaur hybrid demon to the woman behind him. "Yer name is Esserot, so I'll call ye Essy, and them lights were signs of Avatars bein' released. Sheesh, them Gems weren't enough, the hell're these Azuals?" replied Bellatrix, "Hmm, Gunther oughta 'ave them humans chargin' by now." Esserot raised a hand, and a small flying imp-like creature arrived next to him, "Relay these orders: Flyers and runners, go forward and meet the enemy. The rest shall pick up the pace." The imp-like creature saluted and flew back to the others. A few minutes later, a large amount of lithe demons separated, and began moving forward. At the same time, winged demons, wyverns, and flying dragons took flight and led the charge forward.
"Now then, Essy, hold onto yer mount." said Bellatrix, "This will be a bumpy ride." Esserot looked at Bellatrix's eyes, "What are you–" Before he could finish, red light wrapped the body of his land dragon. On Bellatrix's face, a complex tattoo emerged with the red light, "Blood of my ancestors, may your daughter call upon you, and have you gift my comrades with everlasting power! Let the blood of the covenant pour out, and extend the contract to our allies!! BERSERK MARCH!!!" The red tattoos on Bellatrix's face moved towards her hands that were clutching the hide of Esserot's land dragon. The tattoos moved from her hands onto the dragon's body, and it became wrapped with red light. Its eyes became crimson, like Bellatrix's hair, and roared loudly. "Woa-a-a-a-ah!!! Drak!!!" Esserot cried in surprise from the sudden burst of strength of his mount. His land dragon, Drak, ran forward with fast but heavy steps, and each step left a deep footprint. A massive land dragon was seen to be running faster than the lithe bodied demons, and was as fast as the flying wyverns.

A lizardman stared dumbly at the sight of a lumbering dragon going fast at an insane speed, before another lizardman knocked him out of his stupor, "Relay the orders to pick up the pace!" said the other lizardman, "And you, no more dumbstruck gazes!" The earlier lizardman saluted before leaving the second lizardman. The second lizardman, however, stared at the disappearing land dragon, "Still, a beast of that size... Unbelievable. This champion really was that one a hundred years ago." It would seem that this lizardman was a remnant of the past century, as his experience could be revealed from the broken scales and old wounds.
An estimate of 6 million fast moving demons and one large land dragon could be seen covering the wastes.

Stormfell/Ventus was the first to attack, "Windslash." With a word, the conjured blades of wind immediately fell from the sky, and buffeted a swath of Azuals. The blades curved around, making their paths unpredictable and difficult to dodge resulting in many dead Azuals with torn bodies and limbs. Virtually at the same time as Stormfell/Ventus, Culverin/Ignis dropped a massive fireball, "Hellfire." A large red orange flaming conflagration impacted the battlefield and exploded. From the initial impact to the succeeding explosion, dozens of Azuals were burnt to a crisp in a 50-meter radius. Their charred bodies eroded from the dry winds of the wasteland. Avani/Terra landed within the now empty 100-meter circle, and left a small 4-meter crater. She raised her arms, and uttered a word, "Sunder." Immediately after, cracks spread out with her as the center. The cracks spread from eight points, and resembled a sun with eight rays on the ground. The cracks expanded beyond the empty space, and swallowed any Azual unfortunate enough to be on the ground.
High above, within the flying transport, Cavaron was still replenishing his mana while watching the events unfold on the ground. "It would be nice if this were a game. All of those experience points being soaked up in one fell swoop." he commented, "Although there are a lot of them, since they are packed like sardines, it is easier to just unleash a barrage of wide-area attacks." Aimi looked down from the window, and watched as the Avatars brought down Pandemonium upon the battlefield. "A game, huh?" she looked back at Cavaron, "Interesting way of putting it, senpai." Cavaron noticed her gaze, "Is something the matter?" Aimi shook her head, "No. Nothing." Cavaron shrugged his shoulders, "Whatever you say. Capacitor, found him, yet?" Cavaron turned his head towards the machine that was scanning the ground. Capacitor whirred to respond to Cavaron's query, "NOTHING YET, MASTER." Cavaron frowned, "Guess we're still at the edge... from the looks of those on the ground." He looked back at the large number of Azuals down below whose numbers were rising and falling sporadically.
"Shamira!" Cavaron called for the Cross Ark, and Shamira went before his view, "Have all the Sky Knights bombard the area with their magic, but only the Sky Knights. I still need your Heavenly Anthem and Avatar for Azrael." Shamira nodded without a word, and flew back to the ten million Sky Knights flying with them. A few minutes later, fire fell and rained down onto the battlefield. The Avatars on the ground ignored the Sky Knights' magic and focused on eliminating as many enemies as they can.
While the Sky Knights' attacks fell, Glacia/Crystallos created large and dark clouds overhead. Below these clouds, a multitude of ice shards were quickly being formed, and their sharp points were aimed towards the ground as they glistened from the light of the others' magic attacks. After a full minute, Glacia/Crystallos howled, "Blizzard." A lone word signaled the fall of multitudes of ice shards down onto the battlefield. By now, the other Azuals have reorganized themselves to counterattack only to have many more skewered by meter long ice shards. Once one was impaled, the sheer temperature drop produced by the ice shards froze the victim, shattering it once something touched it. However, just as the ice shards fell, "Tirta/Aqua conjured a massive flood of water, "Deluge." Tens of hundreds more of those unfortunate enough to lack the capability of flight drowned, and in conjunction of with Glacia/Crystallos' attack, the water froze and trapped all within the flood in a cage of ice.
A vast area became empty as Tirta/Aqua's flood washed everything away. However, there was still one more that has yet to unleash its attack. Nox/Diablos, a devil stared down onto the reorganized clusters of Azuals. Flying Azuals took flight to attack the lone devil still hovering in the sky, much higher than where Stormfell/Ventus was launching a barrage of wind blades. "Come, mortals." Out of all the Avatars, the imposing manner, speech, and voice of Nox/Diablos shuddered in the air. Nox/Diablos beckoned the flying Azuals to come closer as he, too, spread his bat-like wings to fly towards them. Although he flew towards them, a massive shadow appeared below that followed his body's shape. "Feast of Darkness." A deep voice bellowed out of Nox/Diablos, and from the shadow, dark tendrils shot out and wrapped themselves around the Azuals. Even the Azuals in the sky were caught by long dark tentacles that dragged them to the ground, into the shadow, and off to oblivion.
"Sheesh, still can't get used to the difference between Nox and his Avatar." commented Cavaron from the transport, "Capacitor, any results?" The machine whirred once more to respond, "NOT YET, MASTER." Again, Cavaron frowned, but pulled Bronte up onto his lap, and hugged the child. He momentarily looked outside the window, and saw a black stream heading right at their location, "Damn! Halrimaw, dive now!" Alarmed, Cavaron issued a sudden order to Beast Lord Halrimaw.

Saga of Fallen Kings, Book I: The Revenant Prince
The Philosopher King once conquered the known world, his power seemingly unlimited and his armies inexhaustible. Since that time his might has slowly unravelled, and his once steadfast empire has begun to crack, splinter and devour itself. In the isolated Southern Realms, where even magic has abandoned them, none of that matters. For years it has been filled with warring kingdoms, where as many kings die to the blade as to old age, and constant battles tear apart the land. When one such kingdom invades its old enemy, the King and his heir, Prince Caden, are killed. Unable to accept the loss of his family Prince Arian is broken, and when the Philosopher King stretches out his hand in aid, Arian takes it without a second thought. When Caden wakes from death, he's different. His eyes and soul have changed, and he finds a world filled with friends who no longer trust he's even human. Suddenly thrust onto the throne and indebted to the Philosopher King, Caden has no choice but to keep going - he must finish what his father started, and try to survive the machinations of the figure who now owns his fealty. Meanwhile something beyond death stirs for him, desiring nothing more than to drag him back into its embrace. Author's Note: This story used to be known as "A King of his Own", but after some consideration I have decided to rebrand it. The first reason is that I was growing increasingly dissatisfied with the title. The second is that I have come increasingly to view this story as a 'saga' containing multiple 'books' rather than one long, continuous publication, and as I did so I realized that as I was quickly getting to a point in the story where I wanted the first 'book' to end. This doesn't mean I'm going back on the things I said below - they're just going to continue in the next book of the Saga of Fallen Kings. :) Also, be aware that I do plan to edit this at some point. Though I take care to squash out any obvious errors when I proof-read, and do simple edits in that process, at some point I'm almost certainly going to do large edits that might significantly change parts of the story. Old author's notes: This started as a completely random writing session. There was no purpose or direction, but as I kept typing an entire world began to form in my mind that I knew I had to write about. My plan is to turn this story into a veritable medieval fantasy epic that spans an entire world, follows multiple character and storylines, and takes place over many years. The story has quite a grounded, almost 'realistic' start, but many more fantastical elements will be introduced, expanded upon and become central to the narrative. I have ideas for this story that make me genuinely excited and I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy writing it, and join me on what will hopefully become a truly massive fantasy epic. If you do enjoy this story please consider following, rating and leaving a review. I'm also happy to answer any questions or comments you have.
