《Legendary Elemental Knight》Chapter 2: Pride of Parents

It’s been three months since I was born in this world. After some great troubles, I can somewhat control my body to some extent. Even though I can’t walk or crawl, I can move my head and eyes to observe my surroundings. My mother will always be with me along with another maid, who takes care of my not-so-proud things but I think it can’t be helped since I was a baby. But that doesn’t mean I can simply nod my head and accept it. Let me say it feels extremely mortifying. I was one of the leading scientists in my world. The one with the highest ever recorded IQ. Gah… Grow up fast, you useless body…
Anyway, let’s put aside my embarrassing events and talk about the thing which I couldn’t wrap my mind around. One day my father came to me along with an ancient looking old man. That old man looked at me as if I was an interesting specimen on which he couldn’t wait to get his hands on. It was terrifying and I started crying before I knew it. Now I know how my lab rats felt whenever I walked up to them. Sorry, my lab rats. It seems I will be joining you guys soon… But he didn’t make a move. He just stood there like a statue.
“[Do it, Lorvak]”, he said in a voice that is grating on my ears.
Hmmm??? Wait a moment… I felt something different. Yes, his words are in a different language but I can somehow understand them. It feels as if my brain is translating the language automatically. *Sigh* at least I can understand them but I have a feeling that will not be enough. That language is something entirely different from what I know. I can speak in almost all of the languages on Earth, but I never once came across this dialect before. What’s going on here? Where is this place? Before I could think more, I saw my father move.
My father exchanged a look with him and took me in his hands. He gently lifted his hand, which immediately started glowing with a pale yellow light. I was baffled by the sight. How did he do it? I don’t think this world is advanced enough to produce bio-fuelled LEDs, which were multi-utility entities in my world.

He laid his hands on my chest and that light was absorbed into my body as if my body is sponge absorbing water. I immediately felt as if I was up in the clouds. My body felt light, strong as if I could do anything if I could use that energy. But that feeling disappeared just as it came, leaving me with a craving for knowledge on workings of that energy.
*******Lorvak's POV*********
Today is the day we will be testing Azalon on his aptitude for Spirit Energy. An Elder of my family came along with me to test my son and record his aptitude in my family records. We entered the room where I thought my son is sleeping. I discovered that he is not sleeping but looking around his room as if he found something interesting.
It’s been like that ever since he can move his eyes and head. He will be looking all around with eyes that were sparkling with intelligence. I sometimes feel that my son who was only 3 months old is an experienced person who didn’t know what he was doing here and trying to find that reason. But then again I look at him and he will look at me with those midnight black eyes and I forget everything as a feeling of love swells from my heart. I have a feeling that my son will become an extra-ordinary figure in the future. He will take y family to an unprecedented heights and I feel pride when looking at my son. Is this how parents feel when they look at their children?
He looked at us or more likely he looked at the elder who came with me. His look changed greatly and he immediately started bawling like his life is in danger. I almost laughed out loudly but held back at the last moment. It would be an insult to the exalted elder if I laugh at the sight of my son being afraid of him.
“Do it, Lorvak”, the elder said in a rasping voice.

I immediately took my son in my hands and concentrated my Spirit energy into my hand which glowed with a pale yellow light. Azalon immediately stopped crying and looked at my hand and I swear to God that I could see an intelligence that should not be there flash in his eyes. I dismissed that feeling immediately as my imagination went rampart. I then channeled my energy into his body to see how much his body could handle.
Some of you may feel that this is very dangerous as there can be an accident or his body may be in danger. But Spirit energy is not dangerous. Everything is born with a Spirit, there is no exception. So when someone injects one with Spirit energy, that energy will resonance with their Spirit because Spirit is a manifestation of one’s soul which is formed of Spirit energy. Moreover I am taking extra care to inject him with the mildest energy that I am capable of producing.
His body absorbed my energy as if it’s a desert on which rain has fallen. Not a single strand of energy leaked out. I was astonished and dumbstruck. It’s true that was a small amount of energy and also the mildest. But not leaking a single strand… I was surprised and immediately elated. I immediately channeled more of my energy and this time its color is somewhat more concentrated that before.
He absorbed it yet again completely. This happened two more times before his body started glowing lightly. That was the sign that his body reached its limits and he has to refine that energy first before he can absorb energy yet again. This is the cycle that is the basic of Spirit energy cultivation.
Azalon is sleeping in my arms with a content expression on his face. I felt proud that my son has such high aptitude with Spirit energy. I gently laid him in his cradle and turned to look at the elder. He nodded lightly and we moved back to my chamber to discuss about Azalon.
“Elder, what do you think of Azalon?”
“He has the highest aptitude I have seen in my lifetime. But I have a feeling that it’s not that simple. Even though he can withstand high quantities of energy, if he cannot refine that energy into Inner Energy, it will be a waste. We can only hope his comprehension ability will be high enough along with that resilient body”.
“You are right, Elder. I was a bit impatient.”
“Don’t worry, Lord Lorvak. Everything will be according to the Spirit World. We can only hope for the best”.
**************************
My body feels great. All that energy within my body fills me with a feeling of floating high over nine clouds. I try to observe that energy to analyze it but in a moment it splits into 10 parts, of which 8 of them move towards my chest and disappear as if something absorbed them greedily. One part with the most concentrated energy moves towards the abdomen just below my navel region, which then disappears just like the other 8. The last part with a pitiful 1% of the total energy was left within me, which dissipated outside before I could even react. I was astonished at this phenomenon.
I was left with more and more questions and very little answers. What is that energy? How did my father do it? Where did it go? Why did it divide into different parts and get absorbed? Is there something wrong with my body? Hmmm… Questions, questions…I was a research scientist and I feel this is worth researching… Yosh, Let’s Do It.

And eat all the mana that he can get. Two Disclaimers: 1) This is a work of fiction. Any characters, places, organisations and everything else in this novel are fictional. Any resemblance between anything in this novel and the plane of reality we live in is purely coincidental. Was that a bit over the top and a wee bit unnecessary? Maybe. 2) This story features an antihero with a slight hint of villainy. So, sooner or later, it’s going to get dark. Very dark. Hence all the tags. If you are prone to be squeamish, this might not be for you. Well. You were warned. ;)
