《The Software Detective》1.3 Okay maybe I should have stayed home

Pulling into the parking lot, I couldn't believe my eyes. In the middle of the lot were two hippos staring at each other intently. Getting out of my car I started to slowly make my way to the door, hopefully if I didn't make any sudden movements they wouldn't notice me. There was the occasional growl or grunt that came for either hippo. Oh no they're hungry. Terrified, I started to quickly run to the entrance. If I moved any slower I might end up in a deadly game of Hungry Hungry Hippos.
Bursting through the entrance of the supermarket, it took a moment to catch my breath near the carts. Turning around I looked to see if those stubby overweight mammals had followed me. To my surprise they were still standing in the same spot with their eyes locked on each other. Finally, breathing normally, I started to notice there was something a little off about those hippos. Their movements were so clunky, and at times they tripped over their own feet. They wobbled side to side, and when they would occasionally bump heads, they seemed to stammer back to standing in place. It was almost as if they were in some drunken stand off.
But what was even weirder was that the people in the parking lot were just behaveing like it was just another Tuesday. People were loading their cars with the groceries they just bought. Families were getting out of their cars walking casually with their children to the front door. But more bizarre, the children were not even phased that there were two hippo's about to wage war in the parking lot. Is there something in the water causing them to not see the immediate danger? I should get a water filter while I'm here.
Suddenly, I heard a growl coming from the store. Were their hippos inside, too? I frantically looked around to see if there were around, but then I heard it again. But this time, I realized it was just my stomach growling. This problem will have to wait until I finish my shopping. Grabbing a cart and pulling out my list, I shopped.
