《Re:Asura》Chapter 14: The Kind Guard

Finally reaching the main gate of the Capital of Blackfire, Asura saw a long queue of a very diverse range of people towards the main gates. Some of them wore luxurious robes, one man had a python coiling around his neck and shoulders, some were even riding on magical beasts!
"Maybe there's a luggage checking going on at the gates, just like those at the airports from my previous world" Asura joined the queue, waiting patiently for his turn.
While he was waiting, his mind wandered, thinking of whether his adopted mother, Kira, was doing well. He had confidence that Shane would be able to resolve the matter with the army, and protect the disciples of White Serene School.
Thinking of Kira, Asura sighed.
For the first time in twelve years, he had been seperated from Kira for so long, he was already starting to miss her. Even though they were not bonded by blood, She was one of the few people Asura truly trusted in this world.
"I should get someone to appraise this ring, maybe there's some kind of clue inside this ring" Asura raised his right hand, looking at the jade ring on his index finger. The scene of Doerba's mangled body had haunted Asura's nightmares for days.
Even when he was serving the army in Asura's previous world, he had not killed a single person. For the very first time, he had claimed a life. His view of this world had already started to change. "I actually do not know much about this world" Asura realized. Having spent 12 years in seclusion, he did not have any form of interaction with civilization,
He could only read old history books that mentioned some facts about this world, such as the four major kingdoms of this world. The militant Kingdom of Blackfire in the south, the Kingdom of Griamor with it's magical beast army in the North, the Kingdom of Arunwith its destructive army of magi, and finally the Kingdom of Fale, the neutral kingdom in the center of the world, where merchants and traders from the other Kingdoms can gather and book a seat at the Floating Coliseum, where the annual Blood Carnival is held!

As a kid, he had often wanted to travel the world, visiting the four kingdoms but disciples of the White Serenity School were forbidden from leaving until they had turned 15. In this world, once you turn 15, you will officially be treated as an adult, permitting you to consume alcohol and marry.
Without realizing it, the queue in front of Asura had already greatly reduced.
"Next! Get a move on!" It was almost Asura's turn, and he could now see two guards, one checking each of the visitor's luggages while the other conducted a body check.
"Next!"
Asura stepped forward, waiting for the guards to search him.
"Kid, where are your parents? Don't you know that children are not allowed to enter or leave the city without a guardian?" a guard said.
"Oh..." Asura replied blankly. "Well, fuck, my real parents are probably already dead, and Kira is at White Serenity School..."
Seeing Asura's blank look, one of the guards looked at him with pity. "Poor child, his robes are so tattered and burnt, his village must have been attacked by magical beasts." Whispering to the other guard, they both looked at each other and then back at Asura.
"Kid, you must have had it bad the last few days. Come, follow me." One of the guard walked into the city, gesturing towards one of the nearby guards on standby to take over at the luggage check.
"Child, get into that carriage, You are now safe and sound within the walls of the city. The carriage driver will bring you to the Blackfire Orphanage." The guard pointed towards a carriage that was tied to a saddle on a horse.
"W-wait, I-" Asura stammered, trying to explain that he has a mother, but the guard wouldn't hear a word of it. "Don't worry child, There are no bad people at the orphanage, You can also make new friends and play with them." The guard finished.

"Come, sit." The good-natured guard pulled aside the carriage curtains, patting on the seat inside the carriage, signalling Asura to get into the carriage.
"But I can walk..." Asura tried to get out of the sitation that was getting out of hand.
"Don't be shy... You must have had a hard time, judging by your clothes. You probably haven't eaten for days, no?" The guard continued patting on the carriage seat,
Asura didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
[Sorry for the short chapter, I had a long day at college. I'll be getting off earlier tomorrow, so I should be able to upload 4 chapters! Of course, unless I somehow end up writing a super long chapter again....]

An Average American in A High-school Academy Anime
An American versed in narrative tropes and more than mildly acquainted with anime wakes up in a completely different bed than the one he went to bed in. Now he has to scramble to understand where he is, what's going on, and hope to God he isn't in a relationship drama. I don't expect this to be good or well-received, but I have plenty of time this quarantine, so I'll try to get a chapter of 4000-10000 words out every one or two weeks. (haha) Please let me know how it can be improved. I'm an avid reader of fiction, but I've never really fallen down a rabbit hole so hard that I can name all tropes and settings and such by heart. I'm not sure if this will be effective satire, so I preemptively apologize. Inspired by: "My Life is Not a Manga, or maybe..." by EO Tenkey and "The Simulacrum" by Eganthale. Check them out if you want probably better stories than this one.
