《Flame-Eyed Immortal》Chapter 20

Owen wasn’t the type to speak when he was fighting, he would merely get knocked down and stand back up. His will was not something normal warriors could understand. No matter how much pain was inflicted he would continue to get and fight. And because of this determination to never lose, in the face of death he would welcome it willingly. Owen’s hand slashed towards the throat of the oncoming cougar, just as the cougars paw was about to strike. Suddenly though, Owen made his first step, as he pivoted on one foot, bringing in his left leg as he swung with the short sword.
“Roar!”
This action allowed him to move back as the cougars slashed downwards barely dodging the strike. With his quick movements the bells rung, and at the same time Owen put all his strength into slashing down onto the cougar straight for its throat. But the cougar wasn’t stupid nor was it as slow as the bear he encountered previously, as soon as the cougar saw the approaching blade in the corner of its eye it also made a move. Though because it was too fast and didn’t make a single sound Owen was immediately knocked away, causing the short sword to fall short of its target into empty air.
Crash!
Owen was tumbled into the ground rolling straight into the trunk of a tree. This action caused him to cough as the air within his lungs was forcefully shot out. He couldn’t understand what happened, but what he heard a certain swoosh against the ground he realized what had hit him.
‘So you can use your tail like that huh?’
The cougar’s tail was much larger than it was as a normal cougar, now it was thick as man’s arm and from the impact alone Owen could tell it was probably as hard as steel. But it wouldn’t be helpful to him if the fight was easy. He wouldn’t become stronger from weaklings after all as Owen smiled as he stood back up. This time he didn’t speak to start the next bout. But instead patiently waited for the cougar to make his move. Although he it looked like the same strategy in fact Owen was thinking of a possible solution to the tail. He couldn’t hear the movements of the tell and thus wouldn’t be able to tell when the tail was coming for him. The bell would help but it was only helpful to larger objects that weren’t constantly on the move.

“Grrrr!”
However the cougar didn’t allow him any more time to think as it pounced straight for him. As Owen hadn’t come up with a plausible enough strategy yet, he jumped out of the way from the oncoming cougar. But the moment he did the cougar anticipated that and used the trunk of the tree to launch itself straight towards Owen’s location.
At this moment Owen could feel that his life was severely in danger, if this blow hit him he could become a ragdoll that would never be able to get back up. So he did the only thing he could do and block the claws. He was one to sacrifice any part of his body to win. Although when he was sparring with the other warriors, both he and his opponent weren’t willing to ever get to that point, now that he was fighting for his life he could.
When the cougar’s paw came slashing down Owen didn’t use the hand with the sword but instead used his bare hand to collide with it. As the two forces collided, it would be obvious to tell at a single glance Owen was the weaker of the two. Without any way to stop the force Owen’s arm was immediately blown backwards, although his arm was mangled and possibly destroyed, it at the very least managed to stop the rest of the cougar’s force.
Although that was the end of the cougar’s attack, it was only the start of Owen’s AS he used his sword to strike straight into the eyes of the cougar. The cougar couldn’t react in time even if it could it would still take considerable damage. The sword dug straight into the eye of the cougar and a loud roar was heard. The roar alone made one feel that it was suffering incredibly so. Even still the cougar toppled over and attempted to escape, but Owen knew that the wound wasn’t deep enough and that if he let it go at this moment, with his mangled arm he would completely be unable to fight off the cougar.

Although the cougar would be blind in one eye, it could still kill Owen with one more strike. As Owen pushed his body into the cougar causing them both to topple over onto the ground, Owen grabbed the sword once more and pushed in into with all his strength. Luckily due to the pain the cougar was feeling it was unable to react fast enough and was stabbed through the same eye, but this time the blade didn’t stop at only the eye and pierced straight through to the brain.
“Roarrrr….. “
The cougar made one last growl before he become limp. As Owen was sure that it was now dead, he stood up holding on to his arm, he made his way back to the cave. He didn’t bring the cougars body with him, because he was worried he might find another Devourer during this time. He could only hope his master would be kind enough to bring it back for him.

A Virtual Invasion
An invasion from another dimension is shut down by an Empire's traitor and the world has a scant few decades to build the strength to resist a multidimensional Empire. How will the world fair when no one even knows its doom is one barred gate away? Fortunately, the traitor has a plan. Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.

Re: (Union//Incarnation)
Two years ago, a meteor fell and decimated the southeastern lands of Gaia, turning them into wastelands constantly shrouded in white fog. None of those who saw the blazing calamity with their own eyes lived to tell the tale, and those who attempted to venture in never came back. Since then, towers, caverns, and ruins have appeared and disappeared without a pattern. Those who were brave enough to venture in were rewarded with a partner capable of defying the natural laws as humanity knows it. People started to call them ‘Incarnation’, and before long, more and more Incarnation were gathered and sold as commodity, especially after a billionaire has sponsored a fighting tournament offering cash prizes to those possessing the strongest Incarnation, spurring the greedy and desperate to hunt for the fabled creatures at the cost of their lives. Claire Saphira wanted none of that. She simply wished for a life where she could live without worry of her own survival. As she ran from the debt collectors for the umpteenth time, she was swallowed by an errant tower, where she saw a frail, pale-skinned girl with ashen hair hung by chains. It was a chance, a chance to participate in the tournament and live without worrying about survival. Yet, something nagged in the back of her mind. Why did she look so familiar? Planned release schedule: One chapter every day for Mon-Fri, and a break on Sat-Sun. The release will slow down at some point, but most likely won't go under 3 chapters a week.
