《Transported into another world with a parallel-version of myself》Chapter 10: Surviving

"Is this enough? I don't think I can bring any more sharp rocks and sticks with me."
Her pockets were filled to the brim that the sticks could be seen sticking out. In addition, her hips looked unusually wider because of the rocks. Not sexy at all.
"Yeah...That's more than enough. More importantly, don't you think we need to cover our scent?"
After I told her that, she consciously filled her lungs with fresh air.
"Haaaa~ Hm? Scent... Ah, Right. That makes sense. What do we even smell like?"
I raised my arm and smelled myself. There was no smell. Wait a second. Doesn't this look bad? It looks like I'm smelling my own armpit in front of her!
Both of our eyes meet. Ah, she also did the same.
Another awkward moment occurred. Only the sound of the wind could be heard.
We rubbed our school uniform's with soil. It only made sense to rub ourselves with it. Now that's done, what's left is to choose which path we take.
We decided to trust what our gut feels instead.
Looking at the forest around us, it was clear that certain parts of the forest had a darker shade than the other. Does that mean it was farther? I didn't know. But, it looked more dangerous so we decided to take the lighter shade path in the forest.
"This looks safer."
I didn't feel scared that much. It's pretty exciting actually. Before all of this happened, I stayed at home mostly playing video games and barely went outside. But, it's not like my adventurous spirit has faded. Now that I'm in this world, it's like my true inner self is being rekindled! Although my body definitely have seen better days...
"Are you feeling scared?"
When I asked her that, she answered quickly.

"Not really. You're feeling the same right?... Excited, I mean."
She asked me back and I agreed with her. She seemed amused once she got my answer. We were amused with each other's similarity.
Soon, the village started to shrink the farther we walk away. On the way, we spotted some weird berries and took some with us. They looked similar to blueberries. Of course, we didn't eat it yet. It was only for the utmost emergency. Who knows what kind of effect we'll receive once we swallow it? We might even die!!
"My feet is getting heavy..."
I didn't hear what she said, but I realized that she was walking a bit far away from me. She was pressing her thighs and her knees were bent slightly while walking. At this rate, our exploration will slow down.
"Let's go back."
Seeing her at this state, I knew she wasn't completely exhausted. But, we are quite far away from the village. It took us probably around 30-45 minutes to reach here. We didn't walk that fast either. The terrain was quite bumpy so that probably affected her.
Still, we haven't spotted any creatures yet. Maybe this forest is cursed? No no no no, don't think negatively. Other than that, while both of us were walking, we got into a conversation about insects and stuff. Pretty interesting right? How does this world's bugs compare with ours? For the first part, the worms looked identically the same when we looked at the ground. But, we didn't dare touch it. Why would we?
Strangely, you would expect to find a lot of bugs in a forest but we couldn't even find a single one. How could this be? How does the food cycle work here? That thought stayed with both of us for quite some time. We reached to a solution that maybe some type of magic (if it even exists in this world) is filling this forest with something. It's an isekai after all.

So much talk for bugs. In any case, we were now halfway back to the village. The forest noticeably turned a bit darker since time's passed but it was still clearly visible. However, while walking back, our pace became much slower than it was. My feet felt a bit heavier and the bumpy terrain only made it worse. However, the person behind me is starting to look exhausted for real this time.
"Do you need a hand? You're looking pretty exhausted."
It took her a while to respond which shows how tired she was.
"Huh?"
"Okay. Fine," she continued.
Now that I'm in front of her, I didn't know where to touch or support her from. The school's girl uniform was pretty thick so it acted like a mini-armor The problem was her skirt. Rocks and sharp were sticking out from her pockets. I had to be careful not to get poked by it.
I placed my hand on her back while she placed hers on mines. This position worked but the pace was much slower. Because of this, I'm worried if we could head back in time,
Phew. The forest had become darker quickly. Time was running out. Fortunately, since we were walking slowly, she managed to recover a bit from my support so she's walking together with me now. The village could be clearly seen from this distance. If I could approximate how long it takes to reach, probably 3 minutes.
"H-Hey, look there!"
Suddenly, she whispered to me and pointed to our left side.
At a distance, I spotted something one under a tree. It was a creature. One that we've never seen before in our world. In contrary to our astonishment, we didn't care at all if its a unique creature.
"Food..."
"Food..."
Both of our eyes locked with the creature's body. The size of it was similar to a rabbit, but its body was similar to a pig. Which meant, it had lots of meat.
Unconsciously, I took out a sharp stick from my pocket. She also took out one from her pocket but I didn't mind at all. After all, we think and do the same thing. We only had just one minor difference. That's all.
Our primitive hunter senses activated, signalling the hunt to start.

*** Please read note below *** As a 16-year-old mage from a powerful family, Jayce Candor had known from a young age what his future would hold. House Candor, one of the six great houses that helped build the Eldoran Empire had been erased from history. With no home, no family, and only death waiting for him, Jayce decided to escape north to the uncharted Northern Territories to begin a new life. Forced into situations he was never prepared for and trying to cope with his past, Jayce tries to find safety in a place spoken about only in legends. There for the first time, he will make true friends and find people he will come to see as family. He will encounter strong enemies, build powerful alliances, and become a person his ancestors would be proud of. But surrounded by creatures he thought only existed in tales and pressed by the Empire’s constant expansion, Jayce’s safety may be only an illusion. To survive a world fraught with danger Jayce will need to grow stronger with each new experience and rebuild his once forgotten house. ********************************************************************** Note: The story starts slow. Although there is more action as the story progresses, there is a fair amount of introspection and character introduction in the first 30 chapters. Jayce is the main character, however, other characters play a large role and the story is seen through multiple POV's. This is a draft, it is not a finished work. This is not a story that focuses on an OP MC who beats up on weaklings. At times there can be a fair amount of internal monologue. Some of that may be edited out when I rewrite the story. I decided to keep it in the draft because I think it is better to have too much material rather than too little when I edit. Constructive criticism is appreciated as it helps in the editing and rewriting process. Check out my other story Shattered Mind here

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.

Kichiro's Rampage
Meet Kichiro, the son of a samurai. A social outcast, he leaves his home with nothing but a musket and a sword, determined to carve himself a niche in a chaotic world of dragons and leviathans. This fiction incorporates LitRPG elements, but it's not set in a VR. It's set in a fantastical world based loosely on East Asia in the 16th and 17th Century, when the Ming Dynasty was on its last legs, with the addition of magic and monsters. I totally stole the stat tables from Exterminatus, the author of Everybody Loves Large Chests, so let me credit him for that. I'm new to writing so please don't hesitate to criticise, and reviews would be greatly appreciated.
