《The Abyss Gazer》Chapter 8:The monster shattered the day

The Templars fear no man, demon or abomination, at least that should be an absolute truth but there is no man that doesn't know fear, as such, the templars are strictly trained not only in their faith and fighting abilities, but also to overcome cowardice. Regrettably in the latest years the Church has suffered continuos attacks by the evil forces of the dark, which has led to the training becoming shorter and less strict, so as to have a major number of faithful templars, but resulting in a general weakening of both strength and courage, but their faith remains always unbreakable. Today, only the most faithful, noble and talented can take the traditional templar training
History of Holy Light, The Templars, chapter 43
"BEGIN THE ATTACK!"
Andrew shouted to the goblins lying in wait, who immediately threw 50 of the bombs they were given to the templars.
Then suddenly, the sound of explosions and screams of confusion broke the calm of the forest.
"AAAAAAARGH!"
"MY LEG! MY LEG! WHERE'S MY LEG?!?"
"AHHH! AAAHHH! MY ARM! MY ARM IS BECOMING BLACK! UH...UUHHH....KIIIIIIIIILLLL!"
The soldiers started slashing at each other like wild animals.
The bombs didn't just explode, they also spread a black mud through the area of impact, infecting every one of its victims with a curse that would make them rampage against any light-aligned being they saw and strengthen their fighting capabilities, while also rendering them immune to pain. The only problem about it was that, even if the infected wouldn't attack the goblins or Andrew, they wouldn't obey orders either. As such Andrew basically created a berserk curse.
The cursed were fighting the templars, but not defeating them as quickly as Andrew expected, also there weren't as many of them as he thought. Of the two hundred soldiers, 70 were killed by the explosions, while only 40 were turned into berserkers, and even those were slowly being warded off, being hit by some strange light and dissipating. Andrew thought he would have destroyed them in seconds.
"PURIFY!"
The voice was coming from a dozen of men at the rear of the army, who were dressed like some sort of cleric. They were the priests, the healers and mages of the templars, and in the middle of them there was an old man, who was shouting orders and magic chants at the same time.
"REGROUP! REGROUP! DON'T FEAR THE TRICKS OF THE DEMONS! WE WILL PURIFY OUR FALLEN BROTHERS WITHOUT FAIL! NOW ATTACK THOSE BASTARDS HIDING IN THE TREES!"
"SHIT!"
Andrew cursed, he didn't expect such a reliable man at the guide of the templars. He just anticipated a fanatic, empty-headed idiot. It seems that nothing was happening quite as he predicted. But he didn't lose his calm, and went to the aid of the goblins, who were currently being attacked with magic, arrows and stones, along with Golind and the knights.

He jumped out from the forest, right in front of seven heavy-armored templars, who were at the lead of the army. But in front of his Perditor their armors were as efficient as paper, and their flesh as tough as butter. He cut the closest three in half with one horizontal slash and the others were quickly taken care of by a fireball of Golind, which sent two of them to hell, and the knights, who easily cut the legs of the remaining ones and finished them on the ground.
The templars right behind the ones that were just killed didn't understand what was going on, but by the time their brain could process it Andrew and his guards had already slashed through 10 of them with no effort. Suddenly, their gruesome advance was stopped by a line of shields.
"STOP RIGHT THEREb DEMONS! IN THE NAME OF THE GODDESS WE SHALL STOP YOU!"
"And in the name of Murgin i will slaughter you"
Andrew chanted [Shadow Spikes], a spell which summoned spikes from the ground. All the shield-wielders quickly became bloody banners, symbol of the strength and terror of the "demon" they were facing. All the men behind the barrage of impaled corpses tried to flee in terror, but were blocked by their companions.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!? YOU'RE BREAKING THE FORMATION!"
"WE CAN'T WIN! WE CAN'T DEFEAT THAT THING! WE GOTTA RUN!"
"HAVE YOU GONE MAD?!? WE'RE PROTECTED BY THE GODDESS, THERE'S NO CHANCE WE'R-"
Just as he was finishing his phrase, blood splattered on his face. The deserters in front of him were full of holes, from which protruded blood and organs.
"Nice protection you got there"
Andrew had just shot a rain of black spheres, like a machine gun, called [Black Annihilation], which was extremely efficient against many enemies, especially those fleeing in terror.
"W-wha-what th-"
To the templars that stopped the deserters a similar fate awaited, and only their torn corpses were left.
After them Andrew finally reached the last remaining corrupted left on the battlefield. There were only seven and they were now resisting against the assault of the last forty-something templars, who were now catching up to what was happening.
One of the soldiers in the front went to warn their leader, but also to escape to a safer place.
"Boss Drum! The men behind our fallen brothers seem to have been exterminated!"
"WHAT?!? HOW?!? I THOUGHT THEY WERE DONE WITH THE BOMBS!"
"They are, boss! They were slaughtered by some kind of black mage, the remaining troops are trying to stop him, but they won't last for long!"
"He must be the reason for Gorwyn's destruction! BROTHERS! PREPARE TO JUDGE HIM FOR HIS HEINOUS CRIMES!"
The priests arranged themselves in a circle and began chanting a powerful spell. Meanwhile, Andrew had already eliminated half of the surviving templars, also with the help of the ambush goblins who were now fighting back, after recovering from the sudden attack of the humans.

"HOLY SMITE!"
The priests had finished chanting the spell and a blinding light with a range of 10 meters came from the sky, menacing to destroy anything in its path.
"GET BEHIND ME!"
Andrew shouted at all the goblins in the range of the attack, who quickly managed to follow his order.
Then the magic struck down and there was only a blinding light that erased every dark presence in its path.
"AH! THEY'RE DOOMED! REJOICE, BROTHERS! NOW THAT THE HERETIC MAGE IS DEAD, THE BATTLE IS OURS!"
Drum and his men were screaming with joy, but while the templars were celebrating their victory, Drum looked in the direction of the magic, searching if there was any remain of the demonic man.
And his smiling face distorted into one of pure terror and shock.
"I-i-impos-impossible...."
And there he saw, a dark silhouette followed by an army of loyal minions, unscathed, without an once of reaction to the power of their holy justice, only standing there proudly while ignoring their great magic as child's play. Then the figure talked.
"My turn"
Shadows then began assimilating themselves in a sphere in front of the mage, constantly spinning and roaring, as to show the extent of its power, and the weakness of theirs. Only then the other followers of the goddess realized in what danger they were, but could not scream nor run, for their body could not dare to move in front of the authority of such a mighty power. The only thing that they could do was to wait and pray, pray for a painless death.
Drum calmed his holy wrath and accepted his demise, still terrified in his heart, then he opened his mouth.
"Damn, I really underestimated you.... Just who hell are you, man?"
"I'm just an harbinger of darkness"
"I see.... we messed with the wrong guy, uh?"
"[Gluttonous Shadow]"
The black sphere then turned itself into a wave that engulfed all of the templars, screaming in vain for help while they were disappearing in the darkness, which gave them a merciful and painless death. The wave continued absorbing the holy soldiers, and when it finished, it proceeded with the corpses of their companions. It was quite the sinister spectacle, even for Andrew, but he endured his uncomfortableness. When the job was done even with the corpses, the dark matter rearranged itself into a sphere again, which Andrew absorbed. Then he fell to his knees, holding his chest that was now burning like a fire.
Golind rushed to his side.
"Andrew! What's the matter?!?"
"Uhg, just... absorbed... a little... too much... mana..."
"Absorbed mana?"
"The spell... i just casted.... needs a lot of mana and time... i didn't even thought of using it.... i even shielded us from that light.. but it left me with just enough magic and distracted those templars, so that i could cast it.. But it was worth it.. because it absorbs the mana of whatever it touches, and..turns also the rest in magical power"
"WAIT! SO YOU HAVE THE POWER OF 200 HUNDRED MEN?!?"
"Yes... ugh.. but it's temporary, my body still can't contain so much mana.. so it's constantly leaking away...i gotta use it fast.."
"Wait, what would happen if you kept the power in your body?"
"I would explode"
"Oh"
"Anyway, I gotta use it as soon as possible, can't.. waste it"
Andrew tried to get up, but his legs were trembling profusely and he almost fell, but Golind held him.
"Please, don't tire yourself"
"Calm down.. it's.. nothing"
He finally managed to get up on his feet, even if he was still trembling.
"Golind"
"Yes?"
"I assure you, that after using this magic, i will most definitely faint"
"I told you not to tire yourself!"
"I'll be fiiiiiiine... i think...."
"OK, do what you want"
"Thanks"
Andrew began chanting. Contrary to the spell he casted earlier, there was no effect on the surroundings, only his voice speaking ancient and forgotten words that seemed for the goblins powerful enough to destroy the world. Though the little guys are prone to exaggerating everything. The silence, only broken by the boy's voice, lasted for 10 minutes when finally a shout could be heard.
"[MIASMA LEAK]"
But disappointingly, nothing happened. And Golind couldn't even ask Andrew, since he immediately fell to the ground. The goblins placed themselves around the boy.
"Leader, what happened?" Asked one of them
"I don't know. But i'm sure somebody must be having a really bad time right now"
Gorwyn, at the same time
Lorn was dealing with the documents regarding the future rebuilding of the town when an earthquake threw him off his chair.
"What-"
He got up, still disorientated, holding onto his desk to stay up, trying to understand what was going on. Then one of his messengers busted through the door.
"COMMANDER. IT'S-IT'S A DISASTER!"
"What do you mean? What happened?"
"Monsters... MONSTERS ATTACKED US!"
"You mean the goblins? They can't be-"
"NOT GOBLINS, FERALS, FERALS, THEY'RE SPAWNING FROM A CRACK IN THE GROUND!"
"Crack in the ground? Oh goddess, no.... it can't be..."
A scream could be heard from outside, full of fear and despair.
"MIASMA LEEEEEAK!"

This is my story of rebirth, the start of a journey between the worlds. Will you take heart from the lessons I have learned or will you take without giving and continue the cycle? ___________________________________ A story with my take on reincarnation, expect somewhat of a more serious writing style but still a bit casual. I like to story build, to craft a universe, so don't expect quick action. Can be a bit of a heavy info read at times so if you don't like that best steer away. Chapters are expected to be at least 1 a week perhaps 2 a week depending on response and how much of an inspiration I get. Credits to multiple authors(too many to count/remember) of both web/light novels and the authors here on RRL for inspiration.
