《The Abyss Gazer》Chapter 11:Panic at the Palace

The kingdom of Kieris was founded 328 years ago by the the first person of the Kieris lineage, which, regrettably, to this day has unknown name and gender, due to the burning of the royal records and all other sources 256 years ago and the death by age or else of those that remembered who he/she was. The royal family has guided and protected the country efficiently for all of their rule, particularly this generation. King Stolz had brought Kieris to a new golden age of advancement, but was stopped by the continuous invasions from the east of the recent years.
Records of Kieris,Prologue
"Let's start the first reunion about the incident of Gorwyn's Fall"
Stolz said so, as to calm down all the subjects in the throne room, since they were all quite nervous or angry. After all, this incident embarrassed the Kingdom, the Church, and even the Guild. They had to solve it as soon as possible.
"So, who shall begin speaking?"
"I, your majesty"
A tall and handsome blond middle-aged man, wearing a templar armor, began speaking.
"Oh, Lord Whitesteel, what is your opinion on the matter?"
"My king, as you already know, in Gorwyn there are dark forces at work, strong enough to destroy a thousand of our men...."
He stopped for a moment, his eyes full of grief.
"As well as my son.... and create a dungeon. I think the only efficient way to deal with this problem is to ask for reinforcements from the headquarters of the Church"
"I thought of that too, Lord Whitesteel, but the Arch-Cardinal is quite... hostile to the main church, particularly the Pope, i don't know if she'll allow it.
"She would never dare to put her personal opinions before the will of the Goddes,she-"
"Oh, please, Lord Whitesteel, everyone knows that the Arch-Cardinal avoids the Pope like the plague, she would never bow down to her"
A plump, old man interrupted him. He was one of the most important counts of the kingdom.
"Indeed"
"Yes, what a problem..."
"If only they weren't sisters, we wouldn't have to deal with this"
Everyone began talking about the relationship between the Pope and the Arch-Cardinal, who led the church in Kieris.
"SILENCE! We're not here to gossip about her holiness and her family issues. Also, you should not talk like this about the person that is now purifying another demon infested city, so as to protect people like you"

Stolz stopped them, his anger being quite obvious.
"Ye-yes, your majesty, please forgive my impudence. Still, regarding help from the Church, why don't we ask the Inquisition to send an executioner unit?"
"It's a possibility, but we shouldn't count too much on it. After all the only people who have any ideas of what they're doing are the Pope and the Inquisition itself. Any other ideas?"
A slim man got up and answered the king.
"Your majesty, my opinion is that we should send part of the army to attack the dungeon. It's the only we force we are sure to be able to use at the moment"
"I'm sorry, but it's impossible. The army's already got its hands full with the invasion of the Savage Blood Alliance on the eastern front"
"But, your majesty, I thought we still had some available forces..."
"Lately the situation has got quite dire, so we had to move the remaining soldiers there"
"I see...forgive me for my ignorance"
The man sit down, feeling a bit ashamed for not knowing such an important thing.
"So the Church isn't sure if it can offer other support, the army is all occupied with the war. That leaves us with..."
"The Guild, your highness"
A young woman in her mid-twenties, wearing a monocle and the attire of some kind of wandering merchant stood up. She had dark orange hair, which was curled up in a bun. She had some incredibly cute freckles, green eyes that gave you the impression of looking at a jungle, clear symbol of her adventurous nature, and some nice curves, complemented by a lovely pair of breasts. She also had three golden earrings on her left ear, maybe to show her status, or just because she liked the look. Most likely the second one.
"So, what is your opinion, Lady Monnaie?"
"Oh, please, your highness, just call me Ms Ayles. Regarding the matter of Gorwyn, the Guild wants to establish one of its bases near the city, to allow us easier access to the dungeon and an overall more efficient defense in case the ferals begin to rampage"
"LIES! YOU JUST WANT TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR YOU TO EARN MORE MONEY! YOU DAMN ADVENTURERS ARE ONLY GREEDY RATS!"
One of the high priests shouted, clearly showing his disapproval of the idea, an opinion that many in the room secretly shared.

"How can you make such horrible accusations, without even a shred of proof? I must say that i feel insulted. So insulted that i may think of leaving you to your problems"
She put her right hand on her forehead, and her left one on her chest, making an offended expression, while holding back the desire of slapping the idiots that tried to disapprove of her method. After all, it was the only way they could actually count on to defend their cities, acting based on their pride and prejudice against the guild was just foolish. And above all not profitable.
"No, wait, please calm down Lady Monnaie. Let's talk about it"
Some of the nobles who didn't have relationships with the church tried to calm her down, while shutting up any priest or Anti-Guild noble that wanted to send her away.
Ayles gave off a strange spark from her eyes, along with a grin ,knowing that they had no other choice but to follow the "opinion" of the Guild.
"There's nothing to talk about. Your army is unusable, the Church won't risk other resources and i doubt anyone would send their personal troops. Your only option is to allow us to set base there"
Everyone stood silent for a while, when Stolz finally opened his mouth.
"It is as you say, Ms. Ayles. We need your help, so i will give you permission to set base in Gorwyn. I hope that this time you'll manage"
He made a cutting remark, in a futile attempt to insult the Guild, since he wasn't very happy himself about the situation.
Ayles' grin widened.
"Oh, we will, you have my word. Now if you'll excuse me, i have other important matters to attend. Goodbye, your majesty"
She made a slight bow, before leaving with her personal guards, soon followed by all the other people in the room, since the reunion had officially ended. While she was exiting the palace, Ayles began singing her own version of La Cucaracha.
"Oh, money money, oh money money oh, sweetsweetsweetmoney! How i love you, oh, how i love you, oh, so very muuuuch!"
Her guards only sighed, knowing that when she entered this state, no one could stop her. To their aide came a call from her rare and incredibly expensive long range communication device.
"Yeeeeeees? This is Ayles!"
"Hey, freckles, how did it go?"
"Stop calling me that Gledeyt! Anyway,i t went very well. As easy as stealing money from a baby!"
"Iiiii don't think it goes like that..."
"In my family it does. I remember all the times my grandfather tried to steal my money, to train me to defend it. Ah,memories...."
".....Yeeeeeeeeah.... about Gorwyn, what do you think actually happened?"
"Well, from what i've heard it's either a powerful demon or some really overpowered black mage. Well, overpowered by this country standards. Do you want to come here to see? I heard you didn't have a good fight in a while"
"Oh, i want to get there and fight with this mysterious bad guy soooo much, but i'm occupied for the whole month"
"Such a shame... It's funny seeing the collateral damage of your fights changing how the maps look. I mean, selling the updated maps after your battles always gives me a lot of money"
"That only happened like 8 times!"
"12 sweetheart, 14 times if you count your battles deep in demon territory"
"Uuuuuuuuugh..."
"Oh, don't sulk ,one day you'll learn to handle weak things without annihilating them. Well, now i gotta go, bye!"
"Byeeeeeeeeee..."
Ayles shut down the device and continued walking towards her temporary office .But her guards were trembling, while mumbling to each other.
"What are you talking about, guys? Shady deals? If it's that, i'm in"
They panicked for a second, then pushed the youngest of them towards their boss.
"No, boss, hem, we-"
"WHY IS IT NEVER SHADY DEEEAAALS! BOORING!... Anyway you were saying?"
"Well, is it true that the Guild leader, chan-chang-changed the maps all those t-tim-times?"
"Ah,that. No she actually did it 23 times. She would have gotten really depressed if i told her the actual number"
All of them almost fell to the ground, only avoiding to do so by holding their weapons like canes.
"Well, enough chit chat, let's go"
They continued marching towards Ayles' office, her, full of satisfaction, them, full of fear for being guards to a person who is close friends with such a calamity.
HELLLLO WORLD! Liking the chapter? Hope you did, because there are two new characters in action. Also don't fret, my children, only because the Guild puts a base near the dungeon it doesn't mean Andrew will have to destroy them again, Nero will have no problems entertaining them. And it will be a most glorious entertainment! Haha....hahahahaha....MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
