《Why a goblin?!》Fur Coat
Advertisement
Since the loincloth I have been wearing literally has ripped been off during my evolution, I'll have to walk around in my birthday suit until I can kill something with a hide and turn that into clothing.
Hopefully, my pride as a male goblin can survive until I find something.
For now, I’ll just butcher this giant saber ostrich. Seeing that I’m an absolute unit of a goblin now, I should be able to carry a lot more meat back to my little spot by the lake. Scavenging whatever meat I could from the ostrich, a couple of its rather long bones, and not forgetting to grab the two giant, almost a foot in length fangs, I made my way back to the lake.
Once there I cut up all the raw meat I had, then placed them out so they can be dried. Now Velora can you bring up my status, please?
[Understood]
{Name - Rick}
{Age - 20}
{Race - Hobgoblin (Low)}
{Level - 35 (0/1050)}
{Health - 40/40}
{Mana - 5/5}
{Strength - 20}
{Agility - 15}
{Intelligence - 10}
{Endurance - 17}
{Stat Points - 10}
{Skills}
{Velora (Unique)}
{Dash (common) (5 Mana)}
Although this dash skill seems self-explanatory, can you give me a more in-depth description?
[Once activated, the necessary mana required for the skill will be siphoned from the mana pool you have stored in your body to your feet, once ready you will be rapidly shot forward roughly ten yards, at a speed above what most normal creatures can follow. The skill takes less than a second to come to fruition once activated. The skill is of the common grade.]
I can definitely work with that, but what does it mean to be a common grade and can you explain this whole mana thing?

[All skills are separated into different grades, signifying the rarity and overall strength of the skill. The grading system currently ranges from common, uncommon, rare, legendary, and then there is unique which is a grade of its own. Mana is a substance that is found naturally throughout the world, it can be harvested by sentient beings once they reach a certain level of strength. Most skills require the use of mana, but there are some exceptions such as myself.
Mana is naturally replenished, by just being alive your body will unconsciously strive to absorb enough mana to fill your current capacity. All lifeforms are able to make use of some mana once evolving to the appropriate level.]
I’m appreciating you more and more, Veldora, but apart from health, mana, and intelligence can you explain just the strength, agility, and endurance stats?
[Thank you. The three stats you’ve just mentioned directly show your raw capabilities in the form of numbers for your easier understanding. Although the three stats are different, they go hand in hand. So don’t forget to keep them at an even level.]
If this was a novel, I’d want an apology from the author for all the info-dumping! But it's not and this is all necessary information I need to know going forward, so next question Velora, how do I acquire skills?
[The only answer within my knowledge is to level up; I am not aware of any other methods.]
Hmm...So I’d have to do some research huh…Well, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there! For now Velora, can I use my stat points to level up my mana levels?
[No. Only strength, agility, intelligence, and endurance can be upgraded via stat points, the other two can only be improved upon through leveling up.]

Well, that’s a little annoying. Okay for now I just have one more question, the dream invader voice person said something about my status card being one of the ways I was helped. So does that mean, no one else has a status card?
[Yes and no, every single living thing has a status, but most are unaware of it, and to my knowledge only you possess the ability to freely access it and make use of features such as the allocation of stat points, an in-depth description of various skills.]
I wonder how other folks know what skills they have then, sounds extremely annoying. Well, that should do it, for now, let us store the dried meat underground next to the lake, and since it's not even midday yet, I can go hunt some more, hopefully, something with a nice fluffy hide. By the way, Velora, do you have any sort of scan function?
[Not currently.]
Does that mean you might in the future?
[Yes, there is a possibility of that happening. My growth is tied hand in hand with yours.]
Ah, that makes sense then, well hopefully I can give you some crazy-ass powers soon, for now let's go back to the saber ostrich corpse and see If there are any monsters lurking around.
[Understood.]
Will you only speak if spoken to?
[Following my current settings then yes, but upon receiving your permission I have the ability to speak more freely, by providing input to my utmost capabilities regarding any situation you find yourself in. Would you like me to switch to a more freely speaking mode?]
Yes, I could use someone to talk to; goblins still get lonely you know. Anyway, we’re just about at the corpses now, so let us see if we can use the whole bait plan again. Slowly walking to where I can get a clear view of the corpses, I eventually enter within earshot of what sounds like...eating?
[It seems something has already taken the bait, if you're able to get a sight of it, I’ll be able to use the discern function of my skill.]
Okay no problem, so instead of continuing forward, I stepped back a little bit then proceeded to climb a nearby tree, and due to my new size and strength, climbing the tall tree only took a few seconds. Now that I’m up here, I can clearly see just exactly what’s been eating away at my hard-earned saber ostrich corpse. Is that a wolf? Yeah, it’s definitely a wolf...And its dark black coat seems extremely fluffy...Is this plot armor?
[What is plot armor? But I can use the skill now, would you like me to do so?]
Ah! Don’t worry about it haha, and yes yes discern my new fur coa- er I mean that wolf.
[Understood. Discerning now.]
{Name - None}
{Age - ??}
{Race - Black Wolf}
{Level - 10}
{Health - 18/18}
Hmm well, that doesn’t show much, but it shows enough! I should be able to beat a level ten wolf with only eighteen total points in health right?
[More level-ups are required in order to see more, and yes in theory your current self should be able to easily dispose of the wolf, but as you've never fought with this new body before, I advise you to be cautious.]
Understood, fur coat here we come!

To Blunt The Sharpest Claw
The Velvet Paw of Asquith Novels are a series of New Fable genre novels that involve cats and dogs and high adventure and romance and espionage and food-fights and hotels and explosions and car chases. With large casts, exotic locations and an absurdity only possible in the absence of human characters, the Velvet Paw of Asquith Novels blend Wind in the Willows with James Bond, though with more cafes and fewer badgers. This submission is the third title in its Morigan Trilogy, beginning two-thirds of the way through the series' longest adventure yet. Here's a quick recount of what's happened so far: When Oscar Teabag-Dooven, a Velvet Paw of Asquith, is ordered to investigate how a mysterious poet, the Ar'dath-Irr, is able to travel instantaneously around the world, two very bad things happen. Firstly, he meets Lydia, an insane librarian who punches everyone in the face, and secondly, the Ar'dath-Irr reveals he is intent on taking over the world. Although this second thing might be considered worse than the first, Oscar feels differently following Lydia’s destruction of a cafe, a library and his face in one afternoon. In comparison, thwarting world domination just seems easier. Along with Binklemitre, a fellow Velvet Paw of Asquith, and Lydia, Oscar infiltrates the Ar’dath-Irr’s realm of dark poetry to discover the dog not only intends wrenching the world apart but has no intention of cleaning up afterwards. As a result, Oscar decides it’s all too hard and goes home to have a bath. After lots of arguing and the sort of food fight that posh restaurants were invented for, Lydia and Binklemitre convince him that they must stop the Ar’dath-Irr for several reasons, one of them quite serious. A vibrant cast of characters collide as Oscar, Lydia and Binklemitre battle the Ar’dath-Irr and his disciples in an adventure involving exploding cafés and appalling hotels, car chases and inadvertent surgery, dreadful poetry, lots of arguments and at least one temper-tantrum, all of which draw the three into dark and convoluted corners of a world they weren’t aware existed. Moreover, any chance of sitting down and discussing things over some buns disappears when Lydia punches the Ar’dath-Irr in the face. This results in her having a psychotic episode and Oscar getting run over by an ambulance. Although Binklemitre suffers neither, he witnesses both, which is almost as dreadful, though not nearly so messy. An enormous battle ensues, followed by a dinner party and then everything explodes.
