《Eoum: The Tenth Summon》CHAPTER 28

After the pill taking ceremony was over, we had some few discussions about tomorrow. Tomorrow would be the sixth day, so it’s like Saturday. I don’t what they called the days here yet.
“Will it be Saturday tomorrow and then Sunday? What day was the day we were summoned?”
August asked that. Don’t use Saturday, not everyone is from Earth here.
“Saturday and Sunday? Are those rest day in your world? In our, we call it Rezah and Venah.”
Kiefy told us their Saturday and Sunday counterpart in his and Vefal world. I’ll guess if they said those names, I’ll interpret them as Saturday and Sunday.
It seems that the planet that they inhabited is almost the same as us. The third rock from the sun with a year having 365 or 366 days if I had to guess.
“Really? In a week, we only have five days because a year would have around 289 days although my world was arid and it was nothing but boring, plain desert. If you complacent or naïve, you’ll die quick because food and water are scarce and money is everything. If you got skill then you might be okay.”
Akujin told us about his planet. It seems that his planet was a bit closer to the sun. If it were Venus, the clouds would be all but dissipated but his planet was something like the middle of the distance between Earth and Venus. Still, from the way he described it, it’s barely hospitable.
“… My world was always engulfed in winter. The only time when the sun was fully visible and the summer and spring came was only for a quarter of a year. We have about 14 months in year, so that’s about 3 months and 15 days. For that reason, food and water in my world are plentiful on the summer and spring but winter is a coming death for those unprepared.”
Erganisu’s world sounded as harsh as Akujin but on the opposite of the spectrum in terms of temperature. Theoretically speaking, evolution may have allowed them to survive such worlds.
“Huh, we been here quite a while, I think we should go to sleep and see what will happen tomorrow.”
“Aye.”
We all nodded and promptly got up.
“Oh, one last thing since Old man Tauzad told me to give this to all of you.”
Akujin uncharacteristically had said those words gently.
He went to his table and took something from his drawer. It was something like a wristwatch and there were six of them.

He gave one of them to me as he goes around giving them to our group.
Inspecting it further, the part where the watch shows the time should have been, there was a circle of an Eomancy spell. Around the circle, there were 30 dots surrounding the circle. About twenty of those dots are lit by light orange light.
“It’s an Ethka timer. Every time the Ethka had vibrated, a dot will light up. It would reset upon the Ethka of Sunrise, a special vibration that only occurs upon sunrise. The reason it has 30 dots was because the longest recorded day was about 30 hours. I got them when I was on my way to the dining hall when a guard stopped me and handed a box filled with these. He told me it was from Old man Tauzad."
It was truly like a wristwatch as I equip it on my right hand. From the looks of it, it was quite a complicated Eomancy of Light Orange, the Eomancy which analyse and scan. It falls under the category of reconnaissance.
“This is neat!”
“At least we know what time it is. It’s kind of hard to notice the vibration.”
August was delighted by the watch and Erganisu was grateful while commented that. It’s true; sometimes I can only hear or rather feel the vibration subtly.
With this, I don’t need to keep track of how many Ethka had passed.
“This look luxurious don’t you think? Most native we encountered so far doesn’t have this.”
“Perhaps, they’re not as concern about the time like most of us.”
Vefal mulled her concern and I theorized the reason.
Vefal after taking the pill was in a much better mood then before. In fact, she looks liberated from all the stress she had accumulated as her face was literally brighten.
“Well, Old man Tauzad did say there was a building version for an Ethka timer probably for the masses to see how much time had passed or maybe the natives here had developed a biological clock for the Ethka.”
Erganisu put forth his theories.
Both of them were plausible but I think the former makes much more senses.
“Well then, we all should get moving. We all need adequate rest for what may come tomorrow.”
Kiefy with a tired tone, moved out from the entrance. Before she leaves, Vefal had smiled at me tenderly. I smiled back.
“Are you two going out or something? God, it’s only been like four days not including the day we were summoned but that was fast.”

August had an annoyed expression on his face as he said that.
I gave out a sheepish smile at him.
“We just ‘click’ but not to a romantic level… yet. It’s true that that I do like her but rushing things is for horny kids. I like my relationship to progress slowly and naturally.”
“Che~, why do a pervert like you got it good?!”
I’m offended by that but since I was slightly happy, I’ll let that pass.
Akujin and Erganisu were having a post-discussion regarding about their planets.
“Oh by the way, you wanna go jogging tomorrow in the early morning?”
“… Sure but I won’t go more than six rounds.”
“Then it’s a date!”
“I don’t fancy men, so call it an outing.”
Both August and I chuckled.
I find that it is a relief that everyone in this group get along with each so well. I don’t know about the rest of the groups but I think we have the best synergy in all aspect.
After Akujin and Erganisu had finished their post-discussion, we left their Fhagec and went back to ours.
It was a good night for a good sleep.
--
Thank you, Shreskav grass for the wonderful smell.
I woke up as the sun was on the horizon. I got up and check the Ethka timer. There was no light on all of the dots. At this point, it is considered as a new day.
I prepared myself and left the Fhagec as I went to August’s Fhagec.
He was already in front of his Fhagec, doing some warmup.
“Yo, morning! Go warmup first!”
He happily greeted me. He was still wearing the same tracksuit.
……
Oh ye gods, I hope he at least wash it once.
“I know what you’re thinking! I washed it once, ya know. Turns out you can use an enchanted tool in the Fhagec’s bathroom. It was just like some washing machine.”
… I should explore the other commands in the Fhagec.
After we finished warming up, we went for a jog. Just as I said, I only lasted for six rounds. I don’t want to expend myself first thing in the morning,
After six rounds, I went to jog back to my Fhagec while parting with the still energetic August. When I made my way there, there was someone standing in front of the entrance.
It was Kiefy already wearing his leather armours.
I gradually stopped my jog as I got near.
He saw me and smiled warmly.
“Morning Ruigne, I was just about to knock.”
“Morning Kiefy, anything I can help?”
“Yes, I wanted to have a… I have something to convey to you.”
“Well, let’s get inside first.”
“Actually… It won’t be long, so right here and right now should be okay.”
I nodded and we stood there in silent. After a few seconds, he deliberately coughed once and stared straight at me.
“I’m not good at this because both my sister and I are awkward in expressing our feelings but… I wanted to say my thank you for being there for my sister.”
He bowed sincerely and deeply.
“We… had a lot of things in mind since we were summoned here but she was devoid of any drive as she had been looking up forlornly at the stars beside her bed on the first night here and the day after but her condition improved after we all had bonded with each other but you know, the main reason she became happier was because of you. The third day, she talked about you non-stop with such an affectionate tone. She said that you were so unfit that you hit your own left arm with your overextended swing from your right and how you always got defeated and fell down and then stayed on the ground for minutes.”
… That’s was kind of the bad points but I guess she said them from an affectionate standpoint.
“After enrolling into the army, we were trained to follow orders without questioning and disregard sentimentality. Vefal may have looked the part but she was definitely not emotionless, worse, she had been enrolled secretly into the spies…”
Kiefy was gripping his fists in frustration as he faced down. He then sighs.
“But she was genuinely relieved and was flowing with happiness last night. I… don’t know what you did but that was the result. I feel useless as her brother but still, I am grateful. I had conveyed my gratitude and I ask that you maintain such relationship with my sister. Well then, I’m off to the field. See you, Ruigne.”
“You too and also see you later.”
He bowed deeply again and bade his farewell. I returned the sentiment cordially by bowing back.

Tales of Ordinary, Completely Unremarkable Contractors
"Where life had no value, death, sometimes, had its price. That is why the mercenaries appeared." - Artur Xerxes, in A Century of Disappointment: Memoirs of a Travelling Dwarf It's never too difficult to land contracts for a set very specialised skills in a continent teeming with werewolves, vampires, giant leopards, undead and, god forbid, elves. The difficulty comes when these contractors find themselves suffocated in the dense atmosphere of this world's rigid - and mostly unfair - rules; death, suffering and misfortune await those unwilling to sacrifice to bend these in their favour. In this non-linear plot, you will observe a scarred and deformed farm girl cashing her first bounty posters, a seemingly ordinary barmaid at a tavern in the bustling centre of a sprawling, corrupt city and an enigmatic leader of a firm specialising in dealings any other would consider suicidal. Watch them all take everything to the next level at every available opportunity, and then feel dread at the thought that this still might not be enough to halt the physical embodiment of doom about to do what it does best Please, feel free to review and comment! Any sort of feedback can help me become a better writer and write more engaging stories for you. I used to update once every 3-5 days, but this rewrite is taking much too long...I do hope it will be worth it.
