“Okay, we’re done. We can move on to the next location.”

Both Ghiscra and I were looking up at our handiwork that was attached to a tree branch of a large tree. The handiwork was shaped like node with a single antenna on top of it.

This was part of our ‘Eomancy long-distance system’.

Firstly, the communication device was an advanced enchanted tool that was the brainchild that both Ghiscra and I had worked on but it was mostly from Ghiscra side as she put effort in most of the research and prepared the blueprint.

To explain it in details, the communication device is a three layered slab in which the first layer was etched two light grey Eomancy Circles and five supporting formations, the second layer was etched with a light yellow Eomancy Circle and three supporting formations and the third layer was the battery compartment for the Eo stone with a single formation.

Now about the wonder of Eomancy Enchantment, the simplest example would be the circle formation on the kashra paper but the higher enchantment can make a tool that can use the spell or spells in an unlimited amount as long as there are Eo stone to power them. Of course, Enchantment is like a standalone method in Eomancy and only a select few could become an Enchanter. One of the requirements was that one has to be able to use at least twenty-five Colours.

Furthermore, in Enchantment, it has the unique aspect of having something called Supporting Formations that are able to modify the spell parameters.

To start with, on the first layer, there is a ‘focus’ formation which helps the device emit an initial wave in which after it had detected a device with a modified light grey spell ‘Receiver’ and also had been accepted, it would create a link and focus all the energy towards the other device and vice-versa. The two spells: ‘Recorded Voice’ and ‘Receiver’ are made up into a single process which is the link, so technically it’s a single spell as this was also another unique aspect of an enchanted tool in which it can combine spells of the same colour into one spell. As far as I know, the recorded limit for how many same-coloured spells that can be made into one spell was only four.

On the same layer, there were three empowering formation, causing amplification of the energy of the grey Eomancy, making it increases in range but doing so was a risk because it could grow unstable from too much energy but with the Light Yellow Eomancy ‘Moderation’ spell on the second layer, it kept the amplification in check but it does so by chipping of the excess energies after the link was completed but this process would also cause a shortening of the time of the link and the link would weaken and dissolved eventually. To solve this, we use an ‘absorption’ formation on the same layer that absorb the chipped off energy back into the process so it became a constant cycle of expelling and absorbing. To put it in a layman term, it maintain the link by becoming excessive in energy in a second and then into a weakened state in a second then back into excessive state and so on.

But even so, the output of the combined colour spells plus the supporting formations was voraciously consuming but with my consummated knowledge of Sealed Words and Enchantment Formations and Ghiscra’s precise and solid approach to Eomancy plus her in-depth knowledge in Eomancy Theories, We were able to reduce the rate of the overall consumption. We found out that the process of powering the device was too crude as it had no specific paths or routes but instead it powered the whole slab. This sort of output was excessively wasteful.

And so we thought of why don’t we also add in a formation for the battery compartment that can help the Eo stone to give a proper output? There was never a recorded use for it before as most enchanter thought that Supporting Formation is only viable for spells formation but you never know if you never try and so we had made a new formation called ‘Branching’ that was specifically made catering for the battery compartment and it worked. ‘Branching’ formation works by making direct circuits to power the circle formation and supporting formations.

This method had drastically cut the wasteful consumption.

It was quite a breakthrough.

Also, we had used the best of the enchanting materials to make these two so that the level of resonance would make it almost 100% effective.

Thus two weeks ago, we sent letter containing the blueprint on building the communication device to the Eomancy Council to make us these prototypes as both of us had lack the ability to enchant two combined colours into the same material and in exchange, we submitted the new supporting formation.

One week after that, we were congratulated in the letter for the new discovery and we also received these two devices as a reward for the discovery. We then test them out and we had alexander-graham-bell-seque moment.

From that moment, Eoum had its first distance communication.

Both of us were elated and danced wildly after she ran to my separate room and she told me how excited she became after hearing my voice from the device but nonetheless she still managed to maintain her eye contact avoidance policy.

She was smiling glowingly because her hard work and effort had been paid and I was smiling earnestly as I had the familiar sensation of holding a cell-phone or rather a walkie-talkie conversation.

After the first call, we decided to test how far the distance of the communication was. After a few tries, we found out it had a range of about a hundred of kilometres.

After reading so much books regarding Light Grey Eomancy or Eomancy in general, I found out that after the spell of the energy exceeded its range, it would dissipated back into the winds of Eomancy, which was its natural state and when it dissipated, it brought along the recorded voice.

For us, it was not enough. It’s not a true ‘long, distance communication’.

So we move on to the next phase, which was to build a cell-site in order to extend the range of communication. This was proposed from me after our third discussion as I tried to apply the crude concept of Global System for Mobile Communication into our system.

After a few theories and corrections, we had successfully created a blueprint for the cell-site. It was the node.

The structure of the node had four components to it: Light Grey, Deep Orange, Light White and Colourless. With four coloured spells, everything was technically separated in parts so it’s not considered combined as it is impossible for four spells to be combined so the device works in four different process achieving a single result.

Firstly, the antennae is directly in control of the power source and also the detector as the Light White has a sense spell ‘Detect Spell’ that requires little energy from the Eo stone, can cater to a specific spell after being modified and can remain dormant indefinitely as long as there are energy supplying it. It would only activate upon detecting the spell. The antenna are etched with the modified spell and about three type of supporting formations which was a ‘Constant’ formation which makes the spell during its dormant state to always be supplied with Eo energy, a ‘Chain’ formation, making that upon the spell being activated, it would activate the other spells as well and lastly, ‘Disconnect’ formation, in which after a period of absence of the spell, it would cut off all power source, disabling all the spells and formation except itself.

The process of extending communication was only made possible because of a method called Eomancy Conversion.

Both of us were clueless about this but thankfully, Tevalini was currently studying this method which was only recently discovered about three years ago and we were corresponding with her on our project. She gave us this solution when we hit a dead end.

To explain, Eomancy Conversion is only made possible because of Eomancy of Colourless. Back then, Colourless was considered anti-Eomancy but there was a study for the aftereffect of what happened after a spell was affected by Colourless. It seems that instead of truly returning the energy to its natural state when it is nullified by Colourless, the energy temporarily entered into a latent state in which various contents like the energy and the characteristics of the spell remained in a few seconds.

In a simple term, it only loses the colour.

Eomancy Conversion is only applicable in Enchantment so far. So we decided to test the possibility of Light Grey converted into Deep Orange and fortunately it was possible as even though when it is replaced by a new spell, it would make some characteristics disappeared depending on the type of spell colour, but the most important aspect which was the sound had remained.

We had to do this because the spell ‘Recorded Voice’ cannot be merged or turned into another ‘Recorded Voice’ so the solution was to convert the content of the spell after it goes through the spell ‘Receiver’ via Colourless then into a Deep Orange spell ‘Direct Sound’ that passed through another Colourless spell and then convert it back into a ‘recorded voice’ spell.

Also, the technically renewed ‘recorded voice’ wouldn’t bounce back to the device that had sent it or any other nodes that had already received it as the content of the spell prevents that from happening.

Five spells working in tandem.

“It’s quite concealed even for its size but that works.”

I nodded to myself satisfyingly.

Well, three more nodes to go.

“So we’re just going to wait for the schedule time for Shakil to call is it?”

Looking at the communication device, she had an expectant smile plastered on her face.

The three of us then took some distance away from the place where the node was located and after a few minutes, we stopped at place that was near our river campsite. Prior to this, we already past the area where the node was as we had designated it just a few hours ago.

Of course, all the way from the Fortress, we were using the river transportation as it was the fastest mode of transportation. Perhaps the next invention we should do is the rail transport system.

We both took a few steps back and sat on the ground below another large tree. Just a stone away from my left side was Vefal who was currently petting a squirrel of… a sort that was the size of the housecat. It seems to be a native creature of Symokiva.

It became attached to her during our journey and, far from her cold exterior would suggest, she’s quite fond of that thing.

So in order to cement that thing as a pet, I would make a collar so my position of being her number one won’t be usurped.

A pet can’t beat a significant other… can it?

“… Ruigne, your face looks unsightly, are you jealous of how much attention the Qurak is getting from Vefal?”

Where do all these girls with telepathy come from?

“I’m definitely not jealous here. Why would I be jealous of a furry critter?”

Ghiscra laughed daintily.

“Ruigne, Is Vefal your ‘Cherished’?”

She posed a question in such a carefree manner.
