《The Greatest Gene》Easiest Inheritance Ever

The door swung open, and Cain was greeted by a massive palace. It was extremely luxurious, and everything gave off a golden hue, like it was a castle built of gold. It was a complete 180 compared to the quality of the rooms he had seen earlier. For a moment he thought he had stepped through some sort of portal and entered a new place completely, however looking behind him, he saw that same plain hallway.
He walked forward and entered the Palace. The palace was shaped similar to a pagoda, and had 9 floors. Cain stepped into the first floor and the doors of the palace slammed shut behind him. A voice that sounded similar to Oldman Belmons suddenly echoed throughout the interior of the first floor.
“Welcome. If you’ve made it this far, it means you are my rightful successor. However if you think making it this far is enough to entitle you to what I’ve left behind. You are wrong, you will first have to pass my 9 tests before you can truly become my successor”
Cain was peeved hearing this, he thought he had done enough already, but to think the real test had only just begun.
“Oldman, what is this about?”
“Kid don’t get angry at me. That voice was a recording I left behind a long time ago, what he's currently saying is as much a surprise to me, as it is to you. It’s only 9 challenges regardless, are you telling me you aren’t even capable of doing this much?”
Before the two could continue arguing, the voice came back on.
“Prepare yourself, the first challenge is about to begin. You must answer my question successfully. What has 4 legs in the morning, 2 legs in the afternoon and 3 legs in the evening? You have 1 hour to come up with the correct answer or else you shall fail.”

“You must be kidding me…”
“Hmm, old me is quite wise to ask such a profound riddle. Looks like our path ends here kid, I can’t even begin to imagine what the answer is”
“The answer is man”
The mechanical voice upon hearing Cain’s reply, responded.
“Congratulations for passing the first test, you may now head to the second floor”
A door up ahead opened, revealing a staircase that lead to the next floor. Cain entered the staircase and soon arrived at the second floor.
“Kid, you’re much smarter than I expected”
“I think old you is just a lot stupider than you remember”
“...”
Cain entered the second floor, and that familiar voice spoke up once more.
“Welcome to the second floor, young one. Making it this far is testament of your overwhelming intelligence, however this floor shall be a lot more difficult than the one before it. You must answer another of my questions. The more you take, the more you leave behind. What am I?”
“Oldman, don't tell me all these tests consists of riddles?”
“I’m not sure kid, but what I do know is that this riddle is far harder than that last one. No way can you solve it, in fact let's just leave right now. No need to embarrass ourselves.”
“Footsteps”
“Show off…”
Just like that, the floors passed by quickly. Soon they arrived at the ninth floor. The voice boomed out once more.
“Congrats for making it all the way to the top child. However you must pass one more test before you can truly gain my inheritance. However this exam does not involve any riddles, instead it's a test of your strength. How could my successor possibly be weak? You shall face a copy of me that shall be scaled down to be the same age as you.”

A young man appeared out of thin air. He was average looking however he gave off a firm determination that seemed endless. The only problem was that his cultivation was comparable to a tier 7 genetic warrior, much weaker than him. Cain felt like this was some sort of trick but Oldman Belmon suddenly spoke up.
“Dammit, how could old me be so stupid. I was born a commoner so my start was pretty average, it was only in my later years did I truly start to blossom. However when I was your age I was still just a weakling”
“Looks like I’ve got to thank your old self, he really made it easy on me”
“...”

An Unwilling Monster
In the city of Kholakel, the highlight of the year for the upper classes is the annual monster pacification of the misty woods. Ostensibly it's a culling of the monster population to prevent them encroaching on urban areas, but it's an open secret that it's actually treated as more of a blood sport, the participants competing to score the most kills. After all, why else would the politicians and elites of the city bother to attend personally? Given the intense competition and high-tech weapons and gear in use, one might wonder how the forest has not yet been completely depopulated. As this year's culling approaches, a group of unfortunate children are about to discover the answer first-hand, but thanks to an unexpected twist of fate, one of them will score the chance to play the role of the hunter instead of the prey. This was an attempt at writing something darker than my usual fare. The story I actually ended up with isn't as mean to the MC as I'd originally planned out, to the point that I'm not sure the story deserves the horror/grimdark tags anymore, but this is still an unfair world with unambiguously evil antagonists. Chapters are short to start with, but get longer once the first act is over.

Omnicrafter (A Crafting Adventure LitRPG)
Countless twenty-something-year-olds around the world wish every day for a chance to go back in time to start practicing their passions sooner in life. Tabitha is one such woman. With all of her youth spent playing online games where crafting was as simple as gathering materials and clicking a "craft" button to put them together, she never gained any actual experience in making things. Every attempt to create something in the real world is met with disaster. Her heart yearns for being the master crafter of her virtual youth, but she's the type who burns water when trying to cook. That changes when she wakes up and finds herself in a game-like fantasy world where crafting comes as naturally to her as breathing. She still has to put in the hard work of crafting herself, but the system helps her out to make what was once impossible for her possible. She gets all the fun of making things and flexing her creative spirit while not needing any years of training nor study to build her skill up! While she might not have any idea how she got to this strange world, she does know that she's not going to waste her chance and is going to make the most out of this new opportunity to craft everything! An "Omnicrafter" was what they called people in the MMORPGs she played who maxed out every single crafting class, and that is exactly what Tabitha plans on doing with her new life! The crafting side of this series is heavily inspired by games like the Atelier series and the critically-acclaimed Final Fantasy XIV (which has a free trial, you know!)*. If there's a problem, it can be solved by crafting. Also, in case the title and synopsis didn't make it obvious enough, this series is going to focus on crafting all the things. Wooden spears and protective cuirasses? You got it! Healing tonics and farming equipment? Sure! Elaborate cupcakes and customizable fantasy golems? Darn straight! Weapons with a broken amount of different buffs applied to them due to the crafting process and materials used? You know it! The most amazing fishing rod to ever exist? Well, obviously. Fishing is the true endgame only after crafting, after all! So, if you like alchemy, blacksmithing, carpentry, cooking, leatherworking, tailoring, engineering, rune forging, magical enchanting, or basically any other type of crafting found in RPGs, come check the story out! An omnicrafter doesn't just focus on one specific type of crafting. A true omnicrafter is the best at all types of crafting! *This is a meme, I'm not sponsored by FFXIV, please don't hate me. Chance brings together the impulsive dragon, her quiet, resolute elven friend Sauda, amiable, honor-seeking dwarf Gunnar, and the construct Ismat. The Omniguards, Defenders of Fantasmyth, are born. *No, that is not a typo.

Leave Bad Enough Alone
Something has been amiss in the city’s theaters as of late. The local bards have long done a respectable job of keeping the audiences entertained, weaving high concepts with skillful performances. But lately, a new set of bards, and their illusionist cohorts, have captured the crowd’s attention. Compared to the theater’s usual fare, their work is hackneyed and poorly plotted, with unskilled acting, bad special effects, and unsatisfying resolutions. Worst of all, the audiences like their work more, and these upstarts are far more profitable than the city’s decent bards! Clearly, there must be some dark secret behind the success of these newcomers, and it’s up to the city’s true artists to find out what it is and expose the conspiracy! Or maybe the city’s bards have just become too hopelessly pretentious and derivative. It’s hard to tell. But investigate it they must! Failure is not an option! Victory, or...well, they’ll have to get day jobs or something. Original cover image generated by NightCafé.Master story list here.
