《Dragon Cross》Chapter 26: The banquet [Part 1]

Jack put on a wry smile as he asked, “Now that your plans have been accelerated, what are we going to do with these Clans and Sects?” Shu thought about it and sighed, “Currently, we do not have the luxury of playing king.” Hearing that, Jack sighed as well as he understood that they did not have the option of losing someone from the Dao Reserve, neither did they have the option of having someone grievously injured.
Jack wanted to say something but was stopped by the serious look in Shu’s eyes as Shu said, “However, that does not mean that we are paper tigers. This is your City, you make the rules here and Dragon Cross stand completely behind your back if you need it.” Jack was startled by Shu’s words because he left everything up to Jack.
If Jack decided to kick them all out of the City or execute them, Dragon Cross would definitely stand behind his back and be the ones to do so if these guys resisted. Jack’s mouth twisted into a wry smile as he realized that he had overthought it before.
Jack was the person completely in charge of City after binding the City. He can also issue some of his own rules or modify the existing ones as long as they aren’t too overbearing or conflict with Dragon Cross’s own rules. Jack then thought of several different possibilities on how to deal with all the Clans and Sects.
What those guys valued the most was face and their own petty honour. They would go around screaming justice, justice but are no worse than bandits when no one is looking. This was what Jack hated the most about cultivators, they were way too two faced. If you dare to do something, own up to it instead of finding excuses trying to glorify yourself.
Seeing the sun starting to set, Shu stood up and said, “Well, I have told you all about the Planar Wars and if you have no questions, I will take my leave now.” Jack nodded his head and stood up to send him out. He may be the City Lord now but basic manners go a long way.
When Jack and Shu reached the Mansion gates, Shu remembered something as he turned to Jack and said, “The ceremony is going to be held the day after tomorrow. I will come to pick you up a few hours before the start.” Jack nodded his head and seeing Jack understand what he said, Shu smiled and bade goodbye as he started going towards the Merchant Hall. Jack thought for a second before he went back in.
The next couple of days, no major incidents happened and Jack immersed himself in looking over the records of the Planar Wars. Quickly time passed and the day of the Ceremony arrived. In the City, all the inns and restaurants were filled with people discussing the new City Lord. Jack however, wasn’t concerned about that at all because he was currently sitting at the head seat in a large hall.

All the ceremonial activities and everyone handing over their gifts had been completed with only the traditional feast still being underway. Up until now, Jack had gotten 13 invitations to join other organizations and 11 “warnings” saying that accidents may always happen and he should watch his back as the remnants of the Blood Immortal Conclave are still running around. If Jack didn’t know that these fellows all had discussed the best way of killing him a few days before, he would have been thankful of their good will.
However, since he knew what these peoples true colours were, he could only laugh at their hypocrisy in his heart. Although Jack had not started training again, he still had the fleshly body nurtured by Qi before.
Even though all these old fellows tried to slightly pressure him with their presence, he was not perpetuated in the least. This made some of the smarter Clans and Sects wary as they decided that they would take the passive stance in this matter. All the Clans and Sects that took the passive stance were the ones that didn’t try their hardest to obtain the City, so they had not caused much problems either.
Since they didn’t give their hardest in trying to take over Virbeth, they did not have any problems with Jack either. Jack enjoyed talking with these kinds of people the most because they were not as short sighted and as they built their relationship with Jack, they also talked about business. Jack was just chatting with one of this kind of Sect.
The Sect’s name was Jade Maiden Sect and they only accepted female disciples. They were well known for their beautiful disciples and their Jade Lotus’s. Jade Lotus’s were multifunctional Artefacts that were pretty to look at but at the same time had a practical value. Currently, the person that the Jade Maiden Sect and her disciple were talking to Jack about opening a shop inside the City.
They needed to have Jack’s permission to set up shop inside the City and since they had no grievances with Jack, Jack saw no problem with them setting up shop in Virbeth. Besides the Jade Lotuses, they also made clothes that all females loved and various other accessories like necklaces, bracelets and so on. Jack was currently discussing on the location that they wanted to get.
Since they had to pay land tax while at the same time, they had to give a small pre cent of their profits to the City, like any good merchant, they were trying to haggle the price down as much as they could.
Just as Jack was going to say something, a loud laughter rang out in the hall, “Little City Lord, isn’t it a bit too uncourteous of you to only chat with pretty ladies and ignore the others?” Hearing this, all the passive factions frowned while the aggressive factions all had an amused smile on their lips. Without a doubt all of them were waiting to see a good show. Jack also frowned as he looked at the origin of the voice.

A tall man that had scholarly look and if it weren’t for the obviously lecherous eyes scanning the two from the Jade Maiden Sect, he might have completely looked like a scholar. Jack then said coldly in response, “Everyone has an equal chance to speak to me, I don’t remember making any preferences. Or is it that you are a bit jealous of this junior getting along well with such beautiful maidens?”
Hearing this, The tall man’s face fell as he heard the obvious provocation in Jack’s tone. All the passive factions along with the people from Dragon Cross were working hard to keep themselves from laughing out loud. The tall man had not given Jack any respect since the beginning of the banquet and he had even gone as far as to threaten him in such a roundabout way. Of course Jack had no qualms about talking to him like that. Respect is earned not given, so since he has done nothing to earn Jack’s respect, why should he act respectful to the man?
“You have quite the venomous tongue Junior. Has no one taught you how to act when dealing with Seniors?” As the tall man spat through grit teeth, his eyes were glaring daggers at Jack. His face was completely red as it was obvious he was beyond enraged. Hearing those words, Shu had already lost his smiling face as he was about to stand up and deal with the tall man.
However, to his surprise, Jack indicated for him to stand back. Although Shu was bewildered, the smile on Jack’s face made Shu feel that Jack had some sort of a plan. Jack also stood up as he looked at the tall man with ridiculing eyes, “I was taught to act respectfully to those that deserve it. Your conduct is something that doesn’t earn any respect from me, so why should I act respectfully?”
The tall man was nearly shaking, inside the hall were the higher ups of various other Sects and Clans. For a junior to talk back to him and openly ridicule him like this, he had never felt so humiliated. Popping sounds rang out in the hall as the man was clenching his fist so hard that his finger nails dug into his palms.
Seeing the situation pan out like this, Shu was ready to intervene on a moments notice. However, in his heart, he was feeling a bit of awe towards Jack. Even though Shu and other Origin Realm experts were ready to intervene in a moment, a lot could happen during that moment. To so fearlessly taunt the other person, Jack’s balls seemed to be made of steel.
The tall man’s aura and bloodlust started to rise as he was clearly pissed off beyond reason. Just as the man’s aura started to rise, Jack smile turned a little evil as his eyes flashed. His hand touched the Mask on the side of is head as he said in a low tone, “Rivvi!”
Although Jack’s voice wasn’t loud, hearing those words, involuntarily a chill ran down the spine of all the people present. Jack’s eyes were cold as he looked straight at the tall man. The moment the words were said, the tall man realized that something is wrong as a cyan sword appeared in his hands and he immediately shot towards Jack.
Seeing this turn of events, Shu’s face fell as he quickly tried to rise and intervene but to his surprise, some weird energy immediately pinned him down. Although, the weird energy wasn’t strong, it stalled Shu’s movements for a moment and in that moment the tall man had reached Jack.
To everyone’s surprise, Jack was still standing still with a smile on his face. Although the tall man was moving fast, Jack should at least try to dodge but he showed no indications of doing so. The sword was only a few centimeters away from Jack’s throat as it suddenly stopped.
The sword was gripped by a giant scorched hand, and with a little squeeze, the sword shattered. The whole room froze after seeing this and seeing his strike fail, the tall man tried to create some distance. However, before getting the chance to move backwards, a whip coiled around his neck as he was jerked forward by the sudden thug.
As he was jerked forward, a big Demon bathed in black flames suddenly appeared next to him and struck down his big fist. The fist squarely hit the tall man on his back and he shot towards the ground. A crater was formed from the impact as the tall man was now laying in the middle of the crater with bloodied and tattered clothes. Everyone’s eyes opened wide as their mouths involuntarily opened up.
From the begging to the end, it only took two seconds and Jack, who was still standing at the same spot, was smiling evilly. If before everyone were bewildered on where Jack took his courage, now they understood that from the beginning to the end, everything had been completely under his control.
As people looked more closely at Jack, they discovered a long eared woman standing behind him in his shadow. Seeing the whip that was in her hand, everything made sense to the people present. The Demon bathed in black flames but one leg on the tall man’s back as he pinned him to the ground and looked toward Jack. His right hand punched his left side of chest as he said, “Danger eliminated Master Jack.” Jack smiled as he nodded his head.
The Demon bathed in black flames was Veyer, the strongest Troop under Jack. The one standing behind his back was none other than Shadya and seeing her alluring figure, all the men inside the hall involuntarily gulped down their saliva. Jack stepped forward and walked in front of the sorry figure lying on his stomach inside the crater.
He crouched down in front of the man and said, “I can take this as a declaration of war from your Seven Giants Sect, right?”
