Chapter 8
The spirit lost in the mist
“I’ll tell you about my past..”
“Well then go ahead...”
“Please do...”
“Fine...”
“It happened about a month ago…”
It was a normal day for her, as usual she spent her days hanging out with her friends. Her life was the complete opposite of both Auro and Aamaile, her parents both loved and cherished her for everything she did. She was a well behaved student, she was known for her cheery and peepy attitude. Everything seemed normal.
Then it all changed on that day…
“Hey Christa, can you come over here a second”- her teacher asked
“Yeah, what's wrong… ”
“Can you tell me why your answers on the test are the exact same as the other 2 girls that sit around you in class”
“I don’t understand the question Mrs.Kim , are you trying to say I chea-”
“Not exactly, I’m asking if you purposely shared your answers with your friends to get them to pass the test...”
“Ma’am I don’t seem to understand the fact that just because me and my friends have the same answers that logically means that we cheated”
“Christa it’s not just that, everything is the exact same even the answers you got wrong, I can’t seem to understand how this is possible...”
“So you came down to one single conclusion... That we cheated.”
“That was the only way to explain it, I’m sorry Christa but you failed this exam”
“But Ma’am why that’s not fair, can’t you even think of any other solution...”
“Christa watch your language and please stop making it more difficult than this already is”
“Please can’t you reconsider, there is no good reason for me to fail”
“That’s enough christa please go to your next class here take this, it will excuse you tardiness”- she said as she handed over a sticky note with something written on it -“Christa was late because she was helping me out”- Mrs.Kim
“No I won’t leave this is my grade and future please Mrs.Kim can’t you reconsider”
“No means no what about that can’t you understand this Christa please take your leave”
“I already told you that I won't until you reconsider”
“Well then Christa if that’s how you want to be..”- she said as she picked up the phone from her desk
Ring...Ring
“Hello yes this is Mrs.Kim from classroom 2-A”
Muffled static…
“Yes, I'd like to report some misbehavior from one of my students”
Muffled static…
“Yes I am very aware that this is the time where I don’t have a class, but I had a student stay behind to talk about a grade...”
Muffled static…
“Yes well then, Her name yeah it’s Ch-”
“Mrs. please please please reconsider I’m sorry for what I’ve said bu-”
“Enough is enough Christa please stay quite”
“Yeah that’s her ”
Muffled static…
“Oh, ok then I will”
Muffled static…
“Well then thank you very much”
Click - She hung up
“Christa you are to head to main office, there they’ll tell you your punishment”
“Mrs.Kim , what do you mean “Punismet”?”
“Well you were raising your voice and being stubborn of my final decision I made about your grade”
“How is any of this fair, and why is this punishment only for me why not anyone else who had the same answers ”

“Because you’re the only one that went against my decision, how many times do I have to say this Christa? ”
As Christa stepped back and looked at her teachers eyes she could notice a faint red stain in them as if she hadn’t slept in a few days. She believed this reassured that her teacher was being unreasonable…
“Mrs.Kim do you think it’s possible that maybe you’re just sleep deprived from grading all the work?”
“What did you just say?”
“I asked you if it wa-”
“I heard you the first time, I just wanted to be reassured that I heard you correctly. Listen to me Christa don’t dig a deeper hole than the one you are already in”
“But Mrs. can you ple- ”
“That’s enough Christa, just go to the main office and stop talking”
“Well then, I will”
Christa began to walk and leave the classroom. Her teacher followed her slowly from behind. She could feel as if daggers were getting thrown at her neck from the teacher's stare. She began to stiff up and she could feel her muscles get more and more dense.
“I wonder if there is any point to her following me ”- she thought to herself
As she picked up the pace she could notice her teacher walking faster behind her.
“Is any of this really necessary”- she said out loud but she got no response
“I only have to get to the stairs and head right and the main office is there, I only need to get to the end of this hallway ”- she thought as she felt sweat begin to run down her face
She began to feel more and more nervous as her teacher began to pick up the pace more and more even though she wasn’t. A cold shiver ran down her spine as she began to pick up the pace even more as she began to basically jog. She could hear heavy footsteps behind her.
“Umm Mrs, is anything wrong”- She said in between heavy breaths.
No response…
She began to full on sprint down the hallway and she could hear her teacher do the same. “What the hell is wrong with her ”- she thought as she began to get closer to the stairwell. She could feel her breathing get more and more heavy with each step she took.
“Finally the stairs”- she thought to herself as she turned the corner
As she ran down the stairs the sound of steps slowly began to fade as if she stopped chasing after her. “Two more flights of stairs and I’ll make it ”- she thought to herself. And yet she felt an uneasy feeling as she turned the corner to go down the second to last flight of stairs. She began to pick up the pace even more.
As she turned to go down the last flight she saw her. There she stood waiting for her, her eyes glowing even more red than before, her fist clenched as if she was ready to attack. Christa couldn’t move; she could only stand there seeing the person she once called teacher. As she tried to begin moving backwards, she attacked but in the nick of time…
“Christa, there you are, we were waiting for you...”
“Mrs.Wells, so you did get Mrs. Kim's call... ”
“Indeed we did, please come in… Oh and Mrs.Kim you can resume with your break we can handle it from here...”

“Well then, thank you for your help once again...”
“No problem…. Well then hurry Christa...”
As she walked into the main office she could feel a sense of safety run through her. But once she stepped foot into the office she could tell something was off. And then she saw it, all the secretaries and staff were all cornered up at the farthest end of the office. Tables were flipped and chairs were being held as weapons.
“Well then now that she’s gone… Christa, are you ok?”
“What do you mean I was about to ask you the same question about everyone in here”
“You see when we got a call from a so-called Mrs.Kim we became concerned for your safety so we sent out a school wide lockdown...”
“Ah I see so she’s...”
“Not a real teacher we don’t even know who she is or how she got in here in the first place… you would think a school like this would have some sort of level of security but we were proven wrong...”
“So now what...”
“Everyone in the lower levels has already evacuated the buildings through the windows so we are hoping you do the same for your own safety...”
“What about everyone on the upper levels?”
“The people on the second we plan to evacuate through the windows and use some rope we have here in the office… and yet I feel it’s dangerous to an extent”
“I would agree with your feeling but what about the people stuck on the third floor?”
“We aren’t so sure about that...”
“What do you mean?”
“At the moment we want to keep whatever it is unaware of our knowledge of it so sneaking students down to the lower levels would be the simplest solution. But what if she notices, what do we do then...”
“Are we sure I’m her only target?”
“We aren’t sure of that either… but if you are you should head out of the building and go home before anything worse happens”
“But what about my friends and the rest of my classmates...”
“We will try and assure their safety, but we can’t really promise anything...”
“Then I’ll serve as bait then...”
“We can’t let you do that”
“Why not it’s my friends we are talking about, I would do anything to keep them safe”
“We’re really sorry christa but I already told you we can’t let you do it...”
“But…but ”
“Sorry christa no means no”- She said as she opened the window
“NO I’M NOT GOING HOME!!!”- She screamed while trying to run for the door another teacher grabbed her and took her to the window
“You’re being to loud she’ll hear you”- He said
“I’m sorry but I can’t let anyone get hurt”- Christa said as she was getting pushed out the window
“No I’m sorry but we can’t let you get hurt”- Mrs.Wells said as Christa fell onto the grass covered ground outside
“No please let me back in”
“I'm sorry”- Mrs.Wells said as she closed and locked the window -“I really am sorry, Christa”
“No please...”- She said as she ran at the windows and tried to open it
But then she saw it. As it slowly opened the door with it’s many limbs hanging from the ceiling, they were deformed and covered in a black goop. It dripped onto the floor. She couldn’t do anything but watch. Then a weirdly deformed head came out from behind the door. It had the same red bright eyes as the thing hiding as a teacher.
The thing scanned the room and out the windows and noticed christa, it darted full speed at her and then one of the teachers jumped out from behind the tables and attempted to wack it with a chair. When it grabbed the teacher with one of it’s lanky limbs by the neck and strangled them until they were dead.
All she could do was watch in horror as the teacher got killed for her sake. She noticed something red running down its goop covered limbs, it was blood. As the monster dropped the now dead body on to the floor. She could see it’s disgusting head look around the room again. Then it charged straight at the rest of the teachers. Limbs grew out picking each one up.
She watched in horror as they all got strangled to their deaths and yet the one who stuck out the most was Mrs.Wells who signaled her to run. She got up and began to run as fast as she could. She could still hear the muffled screaming of the staff as they saw the last thing in this cruel world. She didn’t even dare to turn around.
As she got farther away from the building she heard the faint sound of the window getting open and then a joint screaming of the staff and students could be heard. Goopy steps followed behind her. Tears ran down her face as she recognized each and every scream. She let out a scream of her own. It rang in her ears. She thought she was far enough deep into the forest where that thing wouldn’t find her.
A faint smile covered her face as she tripped and fell on to the ground. She was too late and the thing was close. She crawled her way to a single cherry blossom that stood there in a small opening in the forest. She could only get her back rested on it as she saw the creature make its way to her. The screams could be heard all the way from the forest to where the tree was.
The goopy sound surrounded her as she got picked up by the arms of that creature. She could feel her body slowly go limp. She began to lose her touch and smell. Then her taste went. As her body fell to the ground she could tell her sight was leaving as she saw the thing slowly leave her behind. Finally her hearing went but it was too late she could no longer hear the scream or the goopy steps.
Nobody survived that creature's attack on the school that day...
“And that’s how I ended up in this place just like you, in my last moment’s near that tree, I can still remember it’s cold touch as it fell on my head”-She said as both of them shivered in fear.

A New Leaf
When people mention fantasy games and RPGs, they usually think of goblins, elves, orcs, dwarves and magic (apart from the percentage that gets an image of an anti-tank weapon in their mind, I will respectfully put those individuals aside for now). But what if you get neither of those (not even the weapon, I know, sad)? And what if you end up playing as something that doesn't look like an animal at all? And what if the said game you were playing weren't actually a game, but real life changed by irresponsible, beyond-mortal beings? Follow the (mis)adventures of "player" 13241, a.k.a. Treant, as he experiences what it's like to be a walking magical fruit maker (among other things). When the world goes to hell and back, plants are the ones that remain, right?
