《I Am the "God of Death", Whatever That Means. (Original)》Die. Chapter 27

An explosion of wind sends Vert flying backwards as a bright light blinds him and an extensive heat burns his body. After tumbling on the ground for a good 50 feet, Vert manages to recuperate and stop himself from rolling anymore. With his left hand firmly implanted in the ground and his heels digging themselves down further, the relentless torrent of the wind is preventing Vert from moving beyond this current state. His eyes are finally starting to see shapes as the bright light seems to be fading away. He can barely hold onto the Scythe in his right hand as it threatens to be blown away in the wind but he keeps a bone shattering grip on it since it is his best chance against this new opponent. Cuts begin to form on his body as the wind whips and tears at his flesh but he still stands strong. With his vision finally being returned to him, Vert is able to see what enemy fate has thrown at him.
A woman about 20 feet tall is flying a few hundred feet in front of him. Her eyes are a pure blue and she has a pair of outstanding wings on her back and when she flaps them, they cause the explosions of wind that are wearing down Vert by the second. Her robe doesn't seem to be reacting to the wind as it just lightly floats around as if it were in a small breeze. Her hair is doing the same as her robe as it elegantly flows around her head. Knowing that he was in for a fight for his life, Vert decides now would be the time to begin his music and take down this beautiful looking monstrosity. He goes to activate a song he hasn't heard in a while, but nothing happens. Now that he thinks about it, nothing could be heard at all. A grin appears on Myria's as she knows what is going on.
"Poor God of Death. You can't listen to music as you fight, what a shame. That dragon lady's memories where correct, you turn to music when you intend to fight, but now the only sound you can hear is my magnificent voice. You should be thanking me for that. Your music is truly horrendous."
'Horrendous? I'll show you horrendous you fucking bitch and by Dragon Lady's memories, does she mean Emeralda? Does that mean that Liafa was right and Emeralda is basically a spy?!'
Knowing that he has to do something soon or the wind will rip him limb from limb, Vert decides that he should resort to his lightning powers if he wants to change the momentum of this fight. There is one problem though, he needs to point his hand where he wants to shoot his lightning if he wants to actually hit her and his hands are full at the moment. Not knowing whether to get rid of his most powerful weapon or take damage to his own body, Vert begins to bite his lip in anger and pain. He looks down and finally sees the true damage done to his body.

Burns cover his chest and abdomen as his shirt is nowhere to be seen, luckily his pants and legs were untouched except for the cuts and scratches being caused by the wind. With a quick decision, Vert lets go of his Scythe and raises his right hand while pointing out his index and middle finger.
'Take this bitch.'
A blinding blue flash of light pierces both Vert's and Myria's vision. Vert shakes his head to get the aftereffects of seeing his most powerful lightning up close. He becomes increasingly worried as his vision comes back bit by bit but the wind doesn't seem to be stopping. A taunting voice fills Vert's ears.
" You missed meeeee~."
Now being able to see what is going on, Vert is completely in disbelief. That lightning almost moves as fast as Vert moving at max speed and he figured he could hit her easily but she is 10 feet to the left of where she originally was. Vert goes to click his tongue in annoyance but no sound comes out which makes him even more furious than he already is. Thinking of every power he could use to defeat this woman, Vert is becoming more and more desperate. He is caught off guard as vines wrap themselves around Vert, making a small dome to protect him from the wind. He is breathing heavily as he felt his body was going to give out soon but is thankful as he sees a familiar face. Liafa goes to tell Vert something but no sound comes out. Liafa is confused as she seems to be speaking but nothing is happening. Vert is able to pull himself back together and walks a few feet forward so he is standing in front of Liafa. Liafa seems to be panicking as she continually mouths the words 'What are we going to do!' over and over again but all Vert does is put his hand on her shoulder.
'I don't know how we will win this fight but that doesn't mean I should give up.'
Liafa is looking at Vert now and their eyes are locked. He feels a strong connection to the Goddess of Life even though he knows that most of his feelings were implanted into his soul. Not wanting to see the girl freak out anymore, Vert calmly mouths the words 'Don't worry, I'll handle this'. Liafa's face goes from terror to confidence after realizing what Vert has said. She nods her head, accepting the fact that Vert will find a way to defeat this new and terrifying foe. He turns around and faces the side of the dome that is facing Myria and decides to think of a plan of attack before he has Liafa take down the dome. He takes a few deep breaths and closes his eyes to completely envision the battle strategy that will work best.
'The wind is truly a problem but maybe if I let her wind send me flying I can reach the end that her wind can reach with taking minimal damage. I can use my speed after that and see if the wind is being blown behind her and if not then I can easily rip off those stupid wings of hers and cause her to scream like a-.'

"You didn't think I'd let you sit in that little dome of weeds and think of a plan, right? Because if you did, then you are stupid."
The vines once protecting Liafa and Vert are ripped to small pieces and they are exposed to the outside terrors of the world. Surprisingly the wind is not tearing them to shreds but their current situation is slightly scary than before. Hovering above Vert is Myria and in her hands is Liafa. Vert looks to where Liafa was before and she really is gone. He looks back to Myria and she is smiling smugly as her hands are wrapped around Liafa's throat. Tears stream down Liafa's eyes as she can feel her throat slowly being constricted. She tries to call out for help but a sound never left her mouth. Vert reacts fast and jumps up to where he is eye level with Myria with his right fist pulled back. He punches at Myria with insane speed but she just disappears and he misses completely. Landing expertly after missing Myria's smug face, Vert begins looking for where she went. He turns around to see Myria and Liafa but this is different than before. Now Myria is holding Liafa up to her face with a wicked smile. Grief begins to pour down on Vert as all he could do is watch the scene before him unfold.
"Let's hear your beautiful scream, Goddess of Life."
As if what had made Liafa mute was now gone, an ear-piercing shriek struck the ears of both Myria and Vert. Vine golems begin to appear around the two but they were instantly obliterated at the sound of Myria singing. Vert is trying to get close to the two but before he does they disappear and reappear somewhere else. Vert becomes horrified at the blood-curdling scream coming from the young goddess and there is nothing he can do about it. Tears stream down his eyes as he cannot bear to see Liafa in such pain and him have nothing that he can do to stop it. He has never been powerless in a situation so this pain in his heart is new to him. Enjoying the painful screaming of the Goddess of Life and the anguish pouring from the God of Death, Myria is shivering in excitement. She feels that she could be addicted to torturing her fellow candidates. But alas, all good things must come to an end. Myria tightens her grip and Liafa's tears have now turned to tears of blood. Her ears are bleeding and she is even coughing up blood at this point. Knowing that this will be the end of her for now, Liafa decides to say one last thing before she goes.
"I am sorry we didn't get to be together longer... Thank you for the fun time, Niko."
Myria laughs as the head of the Goddess of Life busts like a bubble. Her brains splattering Myria's face and her blood covering her once white gown a horrendous shade of crimson. Myria turns to where the God of Death is and is expecting to relish in his pure hatred and terror but is met with something different. Vert's face is completely blank and his pupils have gone wide. He is motionless as he stands there staring into oblivion. Myria doesn't understand what is going one at first but quickly realizes what is happening.
"No.... NOOOOO!"
She flies as fast as she can towards Vert nearly ripping the atmosphere around her. She reaches out her hand to quickly dispose of the God of Death but as her finger touches his face, a dark void swallows her and Vert whole, making them both vanish from sight instantly. Myria looks at her surrounding area to find the God of Death but it is all darkness. There is nothing here. She keeps spinning and spinning to find where she is but she isn't anywhere. She sees nothing. Nothing surrounds her eternally. Twisted and torn on the inside, Myria frantically searches for a way out. She tries with all of her power to find a way out but guess what, she finds nothing. Or does she?
Soon she is able to find the one who has sent her here, Vert, the God of Death. She clicks her tongue as her suspicions where confirmed.
"Niko is your real name huh? Well even if you're in God Form 2 now, I can still kill you and escape from this prison!"
Myria begins to sing a blissful tune inside of her microphone which causes whoever hears it heads to explode. Something was wrong though, Vert seemed to be perfectly fine. Myria turned up the volume and begun to sing as loud as possible, maximizing the effects of her powers but still, nothing happened. Frustrated, confused, and angry, Myria resorted to old methods and went straight in for the kill with her bare hands. She zooms towards him once more with blistering speed and is literally face to face with him, her hand drawn back and ready to cut Vert down. He notices this and mouths a word that causes Myria to stop dead in her tracks. She looks for a second at the God of Death as his eyes are pure red and seem to be ripping out the soul from her body. Mortified, Myria flys backwards but Vert instantly appears before her and repeats what he said before. The only difference is this time, his voice echoes throughout her entire being.
"Die."

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.

Or if you're simply bored and can't seem to decide on a new story to read, then this story is for you! This is my first ever attempt at writing a story after years and years of reading, so any and all constrictive criticism is appreciated!
