Alice led us back to where room with the counter and the pillars were, when we entered Sieg was inside waiting for us.
“You’re late,” he said with a sneer, “everyone else already went to do their rounds. I stayed back to make sure you knew what to do.”
This guy is really getting on my nerves, I thought, If he keeps this up, I’m not going to keep on playing the little kid, although doing it does have its perks.
“You didn’t tell us,” said Alex.
“I’m sure I told you,” he said, “and what’s with this kid, I only called for you and not another filthy noble brat.”
“That’s it!” I yelled.
“I don’t care if you bully me but dragging Alex into this is not something I’m going to just accept. Malakir chain him up!”
“Yes master,” said Malakir making chains come up from the earth binding Sieg.
“You think you can hold me down!” he shouted starting to use his magic but it fizzled, “what?!”
“Those chains are special, their made specifically to chain criminal mages,” I explained.
I then proceeded using him as a punching bag while Alice and Alex just stared with their mouths open.
I punched his left side, then his right, then his right cheek, then his nose, I punched every part that wasn’t covered in chains. Then when he was almost about to faint, I had Malakir heal him then I resumed beating him senseless.
Malakir is very useful, being a being that knows all magic, he can use all types of magic as well. Although he either has to agree or allow it but he hasn’t refused any of my commands, at least just yet.
After feeling satisfied from beating the poor fifteen year old, I let Malakir remove the chains and told Alice to take him to the infirmary and come back. Alice complied without any complaint and carried him with her wind magic to the infirmary.
Alex and I were left there in the Magus room and I sat on one of the empty chairs and immediately it turned into something that fit me and made me feel comfortable. The grey stone chair, turned into a velvety blue soft throne with gold furnishings.
“Thanks,” said Alex after some time.
“It’s no big deal, I don’t like it when my friends are insulted in front of me.” I explained.
“Why are they even against us?” I asked.
“Its probably because of the riots in the south,” he said.
“Riots?”
“I heard rumors that the nobles in the southern reaches were doing whatever they wanted there. Most of the commoners live in the south so that’s probably why.”
“Probably, more like ‘most likely’. If it’s bad enough that their children do these things then the south must be pretty bad. I’ll tell my father about this and see if he can do something about it,” I said glancing around and noticing a piece of paper on the ground.
I got up and picked it up and got even more angry.

On the paper was written:
Thank you for the help earlier cousin Sieg, without your help I probably would not have been able to pass my run in my summoning class. The rest of us also send their thanks. That prince Zed and his friend got through too though. We probably should’ve also cleared more of those green scale areas than just the ones we were sure he would be able to get to. Can we do that for next time?
Your cousin, Nathaniel.
That bastard Sieg and the kid Nathaniel, probably the one who spoke to us, they were both in it. Did they do something to the scales? There were a lot of them piled up in one area… Did they use magic to pile the scales there and used the scales that they needed to go back? I thought.
Alex was staring at me and I handed him the paper. He got as mad as me from his expression. He was about to say something when in came Alice and Principal Artemia.
Artemia had her mouth open and was about to say something but I said, “I know you mean to scold me for what I did to Sieg but before you do that you should first read this paper.”
I handed her the piece of paper while trying to look as menacing as I could. If they’re used to having a noble that doesn’t care about them then that’s exactly what they’re going to get, I thought, no one gets away from hurting my friends.
Artemia looked like she was in shock at my words and changed demeanor and took the paper and started reading it. As she read it, her expression changed from shock to unbelief.
“If this piece of paper is true, then Sieg is in very deep trouble,” she said turning to me.
“I can confirm the parts in which Alex and I had to run for very long and saw that there were a lot of the scales that we needed to grab in one area,” I said showing her the scale that I had gotten.
“We will need to investigate this matter at once, go back to your room and we will make sure that Sieg and Nathaniel are punished appropriately.”
“I hope that they do principal, I would hate it if they were unable to be punished for their actions,” I said my voice angry, “I would also hate it if you lied to me, third prince of the Rigel Kingdom.”
I started to leave and said with as much kindness as I could in my state, “Alice just tell me the duties tomorrow.”
I walked with Alex back to our mansion. Dinner would start soon but I wasn’t in the mood for dinner.
I tried to fit into this world, but it wouldn’t work. I tried acting like a five year old but I was just becoming a pushover, someone to be bullied. I wasn’t going to let that happen not anymore. If I continued, Alex and maybe even Sasha would have been pulled along with me. I wanted to make sure that they were safe. Even though my mental age is older than them, I haven’t really done anything to make sure that I would be able to protect them.
I decided that night to do all that I can to protect those that I loved from bullies and whatever life throws my way. That blessing is just going to cause me trouble so doing something about it would actually do some good.

When we got back to the mansion, Alex and I separated. Alex went to the kitchen thinking that I might get hungry at some point so he’ll make something, while I went to my room.
When I got there, I searched for a paper and my magic pen and started writing a letter. In the letter I wrote about what happened during class and in the Magus room. I also added in my worries about the south and that he should do something to take care of matters there. Maybe send an envoy to see what is really going on. I also added in my suspicion of the Prime Minister. He kept on staring daggers at me so I made sure to write it down.
I thought that it was just misplaced anger but thinking rationally he might be planning a coup. I wrote all of these down and sealed them in an envelope with my magic. I went downstairs and headed for the front door.
Attached to the front door is a nifty little magic device that sends letters and packages instantly. Similar to the pillars at school, these can only send small items though but from very large distances.
I slid my letter through the slit on the device. It looked like a mailbox only grander in design and pressed the words ‘send’ next to it. Immediately, I felt a surge of mana coming from the device and a bright blue light blinded me and the mana disappeared.
Knowing that this is how it works, I went into the living room and started talking with Malakir.
“I need to get stronger,” I said looking at Malakir.
“You’re already strong enough, just getting stronger through small leaps is enough,” said Malakir.
“No, I need to get stronger. Strong enough that no one can harm anyone I care about,” I said with determination.
Malakir was silent and then he said, “If that’s your wish. I will do what I can.”
“Thank you, then how do I get stronger?”
“First I need to know what you mean by stronger.”
I thought for a little bit trying to think of a meaningful answer. I wanted to be able to make sure that no harm would befall them and the only thing that I could think of was, “I want to be the strongest in everything. In this way, no one will be able to do anything to anyone I care about.”
“I see, but wouldn’t this just make you be feared?”
“If it’s the only way to make sure that they are safe then yes, I will take on the fear.”
Malakir was silent and he said, “Just like before, inject your mana to yourself. Don’t worry about the pain you will feel, I’ll take care of it. Just concentrate on injecting your mana.”
I did as Malakir told me and not caring about the amount, injected as much mana as I could into all of my muscles, organs, nerves, hair and skin.
Oh and did it ever hurt like hell. I was screaming as I did as I was told and felt that my body was being crushed all around by giant steel beams and was going to burst and kill me but Malakir kept it all in check by making sure that my body kept on getting healed as I injected my mana. It took only twenty minutes for me to be completely drained of mana but to me it felt like eternity.
“Since you’re body is still developing, we will keep on doing this until your body has stopped growing,” said Malakir, “this is the beginning of the most efficient way of becoming stronger. Later tonight, when your mana has recovered, you will do the exercises that we had done on the way here, only you will be doing it with ten orbs rather than two. You will not be alternating as you will be doing it at the same time.”
“Are you okay?” asked Alex, he came in when I started shouting but I didn’t take notice as the pain was too much.
“I’m fine,” I managed to speak out.
“What are you doing to him?” asked Alex to Malakir.
“Making him stronger.”
“Does making him stronger mean making him break bad enough that he needs magic to keep going?”
“Alex, it was my idea in the beginning, don’t interfere.”
“If you’re doing this then I’m doing it too!” he declared.
“No, you’re too young for this!” I yelled.
“We’re the same age! I’m your knight whatever trial you take, I’ll take it too.”
“Alright…” I seceded.
I couldn’t stop him, that look in his eyes was determination. Even though it was childish I felt that if I told him that I was going to be walking through hell, he would also walk with me.
After a light dinner that Alex made, which was grilled chicken with a side of carrots. Alex and I went to my room and did the exercise that Malakir told us to do.
We sat back to back and in front of me were ten, five inch diameter orbs that were dispersing their mana to the wind by my control. While Alex was meditating trying to feel the mana around him.
The exercise was actually harder this time as Malakir told me to disperse the mana from the orbs while at the same time trying to keep the shape of the orbs as well as making sure that I take in the dispersed mana, thereby making sure that the orbs would last longer.
It was midnight when the orbs finally disappeared without a trace of mana. Alex had gone to sleep on my bed earlier on.
“Good job,” said Malakir, “keep on doing this and the runs won’t be too difficult for you.”
“How does doing these exercises help?” I asked not really understanding what they would do, “I mean besides the fact that my mana pool will increase because of this.”
“You’re forgetting the fact that your mana pool does increase. With more mana, you can keep on injecting mana to your tired body allowing you to run longer.”
Oh yeah I could do that, I must be really tired for not even thinking of such a simple thing.
I nodded and changed clothes for the night.
Laying on the bed next to Alex, I asked Malakir, “Am I doing the right thing?”
“Who knows, I do not know the fate of mortals.”
I nodded.
“All I can say is that with my help, you will be the strongest mage the world has ever seen. Although you can be a bit of a pushover, but that can be fixed with time,” said Malakir after some time, “but then again, your kindness might actually be something that can change things.”
My ears perked up and I looked at Malakir on top of the dresser.
“At the very least, you may be able to fix this misunderstanding between the commoners and the nobles. I may just be a book but even I can tell that something is not right for the children to be doing this.”
I nodded and said, “Its because of the Academy, my family has no power within the grounds and so the children can do what they want. They might even be just doing what their parents want them to.”
“Then those people don’t deserve to be called parents.”
I nodded and then said, “They could be slaves too.”
“What makes you say that?”
“Nothing to lose, doing everything to gain freedom. Some of them might be in that condition.”
“You may be right,” said Malakir.
And with that I went to sleep thinking about what I had said.
Some of them might be slaves to the system, I thought.
