《The Cardboard Explorer》Chapter 4

“That’s right! According to the description of my skill, anything linked to me can become stronger. My luck is linked to me… does that mean I can raise my luck?!” thought Cade.
10 000 years had passed since the appearance of the system and there was never once recorded that it was possible to increase luck. Some equipment can increase luck but that was not a permanent increase.
There was never once in the history of explorers that someone capable of increasing their luck stat permanently.
Cade felt excited thinking of that. Without wasting any time, he tried putting one stat point on his luck. Cade prayed in his heart that it would work.
Luck played a crucial part for Cade to be able to strengthen his linked equipment. He needed a lot of magic crystal to strengthen his equipment. With low luck, he won’t be able to farm many magic crystals.
Once Cade decided to use one stat point on his luck, his luck stat increased from 1 to 2. Cade stared at his luck stat. Instead of 1, it was 2 now.
Cade’s mouth trembling and slowly it curled into a smile, a big smile. Cade started gasping for air and then, he jumped in the air celebrating that he can increase his luck.
“Woooohooooo!!!!” Cade screamed in joy. He clenched his fist hard and was extremely happy. He had never felt this happy in his whole life. He felt happier than when he awakened a few weeks ago.
Without further ado, he poured all of his stat points on his luck increasing his luck stat from 2 to 11. Cade did not feel much different compared to before but he knew he would feel it once his luck was higher.
With the new discovery of his link growth skill, Cade did not waste any more time and started hunting for more slime. He wanted to raise his level fast and increase his luck stat.
A few hours later, Cade raised his level once more to level 3. He got another 10 stat points and used all of them on his luck. His luck increased from 11 to 21.
After that, he continued hunting for more slime but he realized the quantity of slime on the first floor had dwindled. He found it harder and harder to meet another slime.

He had been hunting them since afternoon and the first floor had almost gone empty. Cade checked his system and found out that there was only 2 more slime available on the first floor.
The monster count was part of the system function. Whenever an explorer enters a dungeon, they will be able to keep track of the number of monsters present in the dungeon.
However, only monsters they had killed once before will be able to be detected. If it was a monster they never killed before, there will be no count of those monsters.
Since Cade had killed a slime, he was able to keep track of their number on the first floor. The two slimes left on the first floor were both level 2.
“Tracking these two slimes will be a pain,” thought Cade and it was true. The first floor was huge and it was common knowledge for explorers that all first floor of every dungeon was the biggest floor compared to their other floor.
Cade did not know if he should search for the last two slimes or move on to the next floor. After a bit of thought, Cade decided to enter the next floor.
His reasoning was simple. He did not enter the dungeon to complete it but to level up. However, Cade decided to go out of the dungeon as it was already late in the evening. He needed some rest after hunting for quite a while.
It was his first time exploring a dungeon and thus, he felt much more tired than he used to.
“Maybe I should raise my endurance a bit,” said Cade as stamina was important if he wanted to last longer. Cade walked back to the entrance of the dungeon.
While walking towards the entrance of the dungeon, Cade found one of the last two slimes on the first floor. Without wasting any time, Cade killed the slime. His level did not increase but to his surprise, the slime dropped a magic crystal.
“My first item drop!” said Cade excitedly. He took the magic crystal and inspected it. It was a grade E level 2 vitality crystal. Slime was only capable of dropping the vitality crystal and it was impossible to get another type of magic crystal.

Cade stored it in his storage and continued walking out of the dungeon. Once he got out, it was already dusk and he took out a tent out of his storage and set it up beside the portal.
Once he set up his sleeping place, Cade opened his storage again and he had more empty slots in his storage now. He was currently level 3 and he had 30 empty slots.
The slots of the storage did not increase based on potential. It will always increase by 10 for every level up.
Cade took out the vitality crystal. He inspected his black hoodie and to level it up, he needed five level 1 magic crystals. He got a level 2 magic crystal, Cade wondered if it was possible to use level 2 magic crystal?
“How do I use this?” Cade held the vitality crystal and tried shoving it to the black hoodie he was wearing. Unfortunately, nothing happened. Cade stored his hoodie back into the storage and tried putting the level 2 vitality crystal into the black hoodie slot.
The crystal suddenly vanished and the system let out a notification, [Choose the stat to increase: MDef? Durability?]
For his black hoodie, it had two different stats. First was durability and second was magic defense. The black hoodie’s durability had 1 point while the magic defense was 0.
It was not a hard choice for Cade and he chose durability. It was an easy decision for him. Even if the black hoodie had a high magic defense, it will easily rip if it had 1 durability and having high magic defense on it will be useless if it easily ripped.
Once Cade made his decision, the notification disappeared and he checked his black hoodie new stats.
Name: Black Hoodie
Level: 1
Next Level: 3 level 1 magic crystals
Durability: 20
Magic Defense: 0
“The vitality crystal contains 20 points of vitality… 20 durability… Does that mean it adds that 20 points of vitality to my black hoodie’s durability? Cool~” Cade felt impressed with his link growth skill.
If he kept adding magic crystal of higher grade, it was possible to make his linked equipment absurdly powerful. That thought alone made him filled with joy.
He also realized that using a level 2 magic crystal was counted as two level 1 magic crystals. That was convenient as there was no more level 1 slime that can be found on the first floor.
After Cade finished adding the vitality crystal and checked his black hoodie, he opened a few cans of food he brought and started eating his dinner. After that, he went online and played with his genius phone.
A few hours later, Cade fell asleep until morning. Once he woke up in the morning, he ate his breakfast and went back into the dungeon. Cade went straight to the second floor through the stone stairs at the end of the first floor.
He thought he would get lucky and found the last slime of the first floor but unfortunately, he did not find it.
The second floor of the dungeon contained the same species of slime but they were slightly stronger than the first floor. All of the slime on the second floor was either level 3 or level 4.
Once Cade found his target, he immediately went for the kill. After a few killings of level 3 slimes, Cade leveled up to level 4. He poured all of the stat points on his luck increasing it from 21 to 31.
Cade continued his killing and after 5 hours of hunting the slime, Cade once again leveled up to level 5. Just like before, his stat points were put into his luck increasing it to 41.
During his hunt before he leveled up to level 5, thanks to his higher luck, he got two level 3 vitality crystals. He did not use them yet and stored them in his storage.
Cade got deeper into the second floor and even though his level was at five, his killing of the slime had become slower. The higher-level slime was much stronger and with his level 1 weapon, he had a hard time killing them.
His weapon was too low-level compared to the level of the slime he was currently hunting. He used all of his stat points on his luck and thus, his offensive stats stayed at the same level while the slime was getting stronger.
