《Ugly》Chapter 5: The Ugly Tamer, Part 1

Author's Foreword: Well here we are the start of the story. I will no longer be splitting up chapters based on POV, but chapters will still be split into parts. Also, I will be trying different approaches to description and you guys get to be my test audience. What's that? You don't mind? Aww, you guys are so sweet.
A short boy whose looks would be average if his deep black hair wasn't covering the right side of his face. Stands in front of the Ellington, Missouri Tamer Center.
"Well, time to get started...", Ulen said aloud to himself. He was holding a manilla folder is his left and only functional hand. Opening it with his left hand he thumbed through the contents. It had his Independant Tamers Union (ITU) membership information, his Minor Emancipation papers signed by his guardian, the results from his Tamers and Magus examinations in it. Closing the folder again. He walked to the entrance of the tamer center, with a excited half smile on his face, the other half was covered by his hair. He clamped the folder to his chest under his right forearm and opened the door, ignoring the disabled button.
The handicapped were a rare oddity in a world with access to healing magic. Lost limbs or damaged nerves could be regenerated so the only form of disability were birth defects. Transformation magic could be used but had to be constantly reapplied. Surgery could alleviate some problems but not all. Enough handicapped existed that government and public facilities had to have disabled access.
As Ulen opened the door the colder air escaping ruffled the hair on his left side, the right stayed still. The chime alerted the blue haired Generica receptionist behind her desk and she gave Ulen a professional smile. He headed to her and handed her the folder. She noticed his nicely tanned skin and long expressive fingers when she took the folder. She glanced at his ITU membership information and quickly looked back up again.
"A Pure Human and a magus?!", she said with obvious shock. Pure Humans were mostly considered a myth. There were maybe a dozen spread all over the world. As for a magus they could command a high salary from simply joining the government or any private enterprise. One becoming a tamer with its inherent risks was about as likely as meeting a Pure Human. The receptionist her curiosity peaked boldly studied the boy infront of her.

He was short, very short, not more than five and a half feet maybe less. Slightly built with very little tan skin showing, only the left side of his face and left hand. He stood straight with his shoulders back with his right arm curled to his lower chest. He was dressed in a brown leather shirt with a high collar that covered his neck with full length sleeves. His gloved right hand was clipped to the shirt by it's sleeve. Tan cargo pants made from a heavy fabric with leather straps on the right leg. A support brace? She hadn't noticed a limp when he walked to her desk. New black combat boots completed his attire. She looked back up at him.
His hair was very black the right and left side were very different. The left side was short and neat. The right was long and covered the entire right side of his face, including the right ear, hiding it completely. She wondered what was he hiding under that hair? His face, what she could see of it, was average. Just average, he had no strong or unusual features. His eye was almond shaped, mixed? Mediterranean? Arabic? She couldn't tell. But what really stood out was the eye when she had first looked at it she thought it was plain brown, but as he shifted under her rather rude scrutiny. The overhead fluorescent lighting struck his iris and she almost forgot to breath at the red, yellow and green gem-like colors it refracted. She felt rather than saw, in his eye, that despite his youth he possessed a deep presence. She kept staring.
Still meeting her gaze he said,"Any longer and you'll have to buy me dinner."
She felt a thrill from the baritone sound of his voice, obviously still young but deep for his slight build, it traveled from her ears down to her crotch which started to tingle. She kept looking at him but now her face was flushed and her lips parted. Then the words hit her and she cooled down like someone had dumped ice water on her.
'What's wrong with me? I had a taming recently.', she furiously thought to herself. She looked up at the boy who was obviously waiting for her to collect herself. She looked down then up and saw the slight smile on the boy's lips that said he didn't mind. She took a mental breath and gave the man before her a very warm smile and resumed her duties.

Ulen kept the smile on, while the lovely receptionist finished looking over his papers and started processing his registration into the Active Tamers Database (ATD). The smile was a lie. Her reaction had been stronger than most but was a familiar one for Ulen. All the Demi-Humans and some human women who had really looked into his eye and then heard his voice had similar reactions. From experience he knew that all he had to do was let them get a good look at the right side of his face and that smile would disappear like a dream.
"Thank you for waiting Mr. Yeadon. You are now registered in the Active Tamers Database. Though the records show that you don't have a starter Demi-Human as yet, correct?", the receptionist asked Ulen.
"That is correct. Miss...?", replied Ulen letting his smile grow a bit and forcing more warmth into his eye. Flirting a little with the lovely Generica wouldn't hurt him.
"It's Leila, Mr. Yeadon.", the warmth in her smile rising a few degrees as Leila replied. Very few humans and no tamers had ever asked her for her name. She was starting to like him more and more.
"Then call me Ulen, Leila.", Ulen replied easily. He noticed her eyes widening in surprise and pleasure at him giving her permission to use his first name.
"Is the tamer reserve open today, Leila?", he inquired.
"It is and since your registration is done you can head there immediately, Ul...Ulen.", replied Leila blushing at stumbling over his name. To cover her embarrassment she held out his folder to him.
Ulen took the folder with his left hand then tucked it under his right arm.
"Thanks for all your help, Leila.", Ulen letting his honest appreciation fill his voice. He extended his hand to her.
She stood up while blushing a deep red and said, "You're welcome, Ulen. Please come see me again. If you need help with anything." And she really meant anything. She took his hand and felt his warmth spread to her whole body like a warm blanket. She luxuriated in the sensation. When she recovered from her daze and looked up she saw that Ulen had left. Feeling a bit regretful she sat down and got back to work. She had wanted to ask for a impromptu taming session. She then remembered.
'Dammit, I didn't get his number.', and she cursed herself.
Ulen calmly headed to the tamers reserve, while Leila was still distracted by Electric Touch a spell that normally delivers a deadly bio-electric shock. Ulen had practiced control over his magic to such a degree that he could modify the output of his spells to use as little magic as possible or all at once. Too little power and nothing would happen. All at once was dangerous as the sudden loss of energy could send the nervous system into shock. Since Electric Touch worked by amplifying the bodies natural electric field by lowering its power to the point where the magic almost didn't manifest it's effect. He learned he could induce a warm pleasant sensation in those he touched.
Ulen had found Leila attractive and was highly unusual in his lack of prejudice against Demi-Humans. He had mostly been raised by his adoptive father's harem so that was no surprise. However, he had had a painful experience with an already bonded Demi-Human. After that his father's Alpha had also warned him not to get involved with free or unbonded Demi-Humans unless he was adding them to his harem.
Her exact words had been, "You can stack human pussy to the sky and fuck'em using a step ladder, but don't touch a D-Girl who is already riding a cock or hungry for one."
With a grin and a chuckle at remembering his father's Alpha's sometimes vulgar speeches. He continued on to the tamers reserve to find his first partner.
Author's Note: I'm pretty pleased with this chapter. Feedback appreciated. Oh, ya Ugly gets it's first shmeckcee scene in the upcoming chapters. I will also be posting a stat explanation sheet and Ulen's stats. I wonder if you guys can guess who his adoptive father and his Alpha are?

Oh, I also forgot to mention that I have taken inspiration from waaaay tooo many novels that I liked, and while there aren't any specific ones that I based this upon there are a few that I definitely took inspiration from like : the author's POV, chronicles of the heavenly demon [you can probably see where this inspired me ;)], etc.
