12 – Spirit Rose!
Kain’s POV
Early March. 4030. Bazell Coast. Moon-lit Bay. Territories of Cohen House.
Governor of Daon came to visit us with his family on our departure. He congratulated Vurm on helping to kill and capture pirates. Although Vurm did not even take medal that governor wanted to bestow upon him.
It’s been 3 months that we have left island city of Daon. Our ship was sailing in waters of Moon-lit Bay which was the last biggest bay on northern side of Cohen territories.
I was standing on board watching horizon when I saw land far away. “Bazell Coast” Vurm murmured and I was startled as I didn’t notice him standing behind me. “Another day?” I asked. “More or less” Vurm replied. “There is someone you have to meet there!” he told to me. “Destrian never told me!?” I was puzzled. “No kid, its my idea. You have to meet him no matter what.” Vurm said calmly.
Next day, earlier in the morning we arrived at port in City of Vin. First time in my life I had seen so much ships and galleys docked on port. Port of Vin was territory-wise as big as Daon. There were group of officials who were standing in line waiting for us. Vurm swiftly sent them away with sweet words, declining offer from Governor of Vin for dinner in his mansion.
We didn’t stay in Vin at all, rather rode horses on Bazell Coast. It took us more or less ten minutes of slow ride after we exited Vin to reach the place. Sea shore had a distinct bohemian feel to it. During our trip I saw few marine turtles which were heading towards the sea, most probably they had layed their eggs in the soft sands. There were banyan tree on forefront. Massive forest line was covering sea shore and beautiful humming of birds were attracting me more than usual. There were small galleys on shore covered in nets from top to bottom. I assume locals were using these to catch fish.
Kicking on horse’s belly I closed to Vurm and asked him where we were heading towards. He pointed to location using his right hand. Looking towards the direction a beach-shack restaurant sprang up on my view. Slowly we reached it.
The Restaurant was on top of the hill. Downhill there were table and stools where customers were sitting and having meal and drinks. On both sides, restaurant was covered with walls made of bamboo sticks which had prevented me to identify it before. Getting off horses, Vurm told rest of squad to get a table and eat while we went towards a bench where a man was lying down.

Bench was made of wood too. There were cushions of different color and sizes on it. A fat man of 150-160kgs was lying on top of cushions reading a book. Big umbrella was protecting him from lights of sun.
“This is Baba” Vurm said look at me. Fat man closed down book “Long time, no see Vurm” grinned. “How’s life treating you Baba?” Vurm continued. “Doing fine Vurmy.. Fine” Baba answered. “What’s your name kid?” Baba switched his gaze to me. “I’m Kain” I responded. “Do you want to be my student?” Baba said. Instantly I turned to my right as noise of cracking came from there. There was a girl around my age. She was standing as if electroshock-ed.
“I, Elle, daughter of governor of Vin have to work as a slave for days and nights without sleep and rest.. But.. But... this..this.. But this nobody gets to be your student just like this?” she spoke. I saw few broken saucers and glasses mixed together on top of beach sand. “Damn you!” she screamed at me. “Me? What I have done to you?” I asked. Looking closely she was cute. White skin, dark blue eyes and black combed hair that were flowing up to waist gave her elegant aura.
“Elle, you are not fit to be my student yet” Baba talked “Clean this place, and bring me another portion.” She angrily left away. “Do you want to be my student?” Baba asked again. “He is 5th level magician but more powerful than 8th level magicians that you will meet.” Vurm spoke looking at me. “No, I’m good” I replied.
Baba was lying on bench, after a moment his body began to float on air and moved close to me. Without moving a muscle, floating on air still he again asked “Today is my birthday and you broke my heart, Kain”. Vurm laughed out loud at his words. “I’ll make it up to you, do you like alcoholic drinks?” I questioned Baba “Yep, depends on!”. Elle came back again. “Can you show me to kitchen, please?” I looked at Elle. “NO!” she replied though Baba commanded her to show me around.
We came into kitchen and I asked for different alcoholic drinks. Most importantly they didn’t have vodka or did not know what it is which shocked me. I began to smell alcoholic bottles one by one and excluded whiskey, rum, cachaça and cognac’s. Using a small cup I tasted few others and one of them felt like vodka. I asked for its name and was told it is called “Spirit Rose”.

Fresh mint, apple juice, few ice cubes and half a liter of Spirit Rose were brought to me in matter of minutes. I put three glasses on table and saw Elle watching me in awe. Firstly, I added 4 pieces of ice cube into each glass and later on added mint leaves into each of them. Rest of glass was filled with spirit rose and apple juice. I asked Elle to help me out and she grabbed to glasses and we went outside to see Vurm and Baba chatting.
Elle gave one glass to Baba and other one to Vurm. I moved my arm towards air and said “Cheers”. It had been long time since I had alcohol. Gulping down until the last drop, I enjoyed my cocktail. “Where did you learn it?” Vurm asked. “Secret!” I told.

Cyrus Lyth’s POV
Early April. 4030. Monarch Academy. Battle Arena
“Dear headmaster, teachers, students and guests. I welcome you to yearly tournaments first quarter-final match. We have seen very exquisite matches until now. I guarantee you this one will not be any less fun than others... I welcome Cyrus Lyth to south point as first contestant.. He has shown great potential in the tournament but this match shall be a great test to him..” MC stopped to take his breathe while I was going to south point. Applauses, claps and shouts were cheering me more than anything else. I was getting excited and aroused as I heard people shouting to support me “Now, I welcome Karan Iltsin to north point. Karan has been formidable throughout the tournament showing excellent results”.
I watched Karan walking towards north point. It was first time ever him and me facing each other in tournament. First and second year of studies, unfortunately neither him nor I were ready to get into competition. But this year, I’m facing him and I will prove to whole world that I am better than Karan Iltsin. I will be the king, no matter what!
“Silence! Silence! As both contestants are standing on north and south points consecutively, in short I’ll be counting down from 10 to 1. Before beginning the match let me remind you both that anyone acting to kill the other shall be punished by death!” MC announced. Both of us nodded in understanding. “10. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1. Begin!” MC screamed.
I, Cyrus Lyth, have waited for a moment like this for more than 2 years. It’s a chance given by Gods. Today I will know, who has favor of Gods. Karan was standing still as if I didn't exist at all. I began to move towards him. I took out an arrow and put it into bow. Pulling bow’s string, I shot first arrow then next and next until I finished all fifteen of them.
Karan was dodging them perfectly but he didn’t know that I was shooting arrow’s so that to get him into the position and location that was suitable for me to finish him off for once and all. I was chanting “Dark Mists” spell in old language, while shooting arrows, for it be much more effective than usual. As soon as I was finished with arrows, Karan was already some 30-35 meters away from me. I chanted “Vision of Gods” to see in fog, unsheathed my sword and run towards him.
As distance between us closed, I saw Karan’s mouth opening and closing. In that moment I understood that I have to be a bit faster to reach to him before he casts a spell. Less than 15 meters were left when Karan screamed “Prison of Gods”. Long walls popped up from the ground going up to 30 meters in height. I stopped to change my plan when I saw few bricks getting lose from wall and Karan looking towards me grinning. “How could he see me?” passed my mind. “Earth, damn him. He knows my location through earth.. ”. I saw him shooting an arrow at me, without losing another second I somersaulted and changed my direction. “He knows just one spell!” I murmured to myself.
“Void, Dark Mists!”, “Void, Vision of Gods!” I chanted and began to run around the wall protecting Karan. He was 2nd level magician so his wall barrier was not perfect yet. I began to diffuse my mana to my sword and as mists cleared I changed my direction for second time and ran towards the wall. When I was few meters away from him, I went for vertical cut and shouted “Wolf’s Fangs!”. Mana erupted from my sword in form of two fangs and striked walls. Bringing them down in one hit, I jumped inside the wall barrier and caught Karan. I brought my sword upto his neck and said “You lose, Karan!”
