Chapter 24- Things Can't Possibly Get Worse!
Bodies of monsters were cast on the ground like dirt on roads. In a blanket of blood, Roen killed the wall of bodies faster than Engil and Tyor could keep up. Eventually they were forced to kill the ones lucky enough to survive Roen's attacks.
However no matter how many they killed, many more would always flood in from outside, but their goal was never to kill them all. They were creating a path straight to the glass pedestal, and upon realizing this the monsters moved as a single entity to protect it. The fight grew increasingly brutal.
Roen moved like a hurricane to compensate. His hands became like lightning and accurately struck weak points in every monster that came into his range. The two sets of wings on his back became sharp swords that would split the wave of monsters to and fro. Tyor's blood vine silhouettes would sometimes flood into the wall of monsters wrapping them up for enough time for Roen or Engil to separate their heads from their bodies.
The grotesque creatures were unwavering at the three's brutality and increased their attacks.
10 feet away!
They had only covered 20 feet and Engil was beginning to feel fatigue from the overuse of his aura. Roen was still fiercely fighting with his physical body and robe. Every so often Roen would extend a white spear covered in red veins out of his hand and pierce through a line of monsters, but would never reach the orb. Tyor was still strongly supplying support and the blood vines grew into the dead bodies forming into more vines.
8 feet!
Engil had nearly exhausted all of his aura and had taken a couple hits. His condition was unknown. Tyor let his blood vines do the work for him, and went over to Engil to check him.

6 feet!
The monsters began to notice that Engil was injured and some of the ones flooding in started to attack them. Tyor was ferociously protecting Engil blocking with his blood vine shield and cutting their bodies to pieces. Roen was still desperately trying to spear the orb, but a monster would jump into the spears path.
5 feet!
Tyor had taken a few serious hits and was bleeding from several places. Blood vines had extended from his body and were sucking in the blood of those around him to replace what he's lost. Engil had finally staggered to his feet, but his sword was gone leaving him to bite at the monster's tough skin. Roen's monstrous physical body was obviously reaching it's limits and the speed at which he killed was slowing down.
4 feet!
Tyor and Engil were struggling to survive. They barely were able to hold onto their lives at this point. Cuts, gashes and bruises were littered on Engil's body. Tyor's blood vines were easy targets once they gorged on enough blood and were easily smashed apart. Roen's scale mail had cracks spread throughout and was missing at parts. The once terrifying bone wings had lost their majesty; two were ripped in half while the other two were missing completely. However Roen's face held onto his determination and had a slight trace of madness.
3 feet!
The endless tides of monsters gave no more ground as they piled into the room from any possible crevice. Roen shot spear after spear in an attempt to destroy the orb, but the tide was completely unaffected and never missed an opportunity to stop the spear. The monsters surrounding Tyor had long since fainted leaving Engil to protect the two of them.
Clink! Crack! Crack! Crash!
A spear finally connected! The monster wave froze and everything fell silent. The only sound was pained heavy breathing coming from the three.

"Did, did, we win?" Engil was speaking through long breaths and he was having trouble standing in his body.
"No, those were just the small fry."
A sense of loss was filling them as Roen's eyes squinted to see if they had made it in time. He spotted a figure moving in the middle of the frozen monsters. Then an immeasurable sucking force started to originate from the orb's previous position. The only ones affected by it seemed to be the monsters and even the ones outside began to flow into the vortex. The bodies started to compress and formed a pink fleshy sphere.
"Roen... I don't suppose we made it did we?"
"No, things can't be worse. I can't use my spells and were all exhausted."
Suddenly an arm extended from the fleshy ball and two legs followed it. Then another arm extended from the same side followed by a pair on the other. The body started to ripple and steam began to emit from the skin surrounding it. A head popped out and a pair of red eyes were seen. The whole process happened in the blink of an eye.
Roen's face held a indescribable anger as he gazed at the being taking shape in front of him. However the being paid him no mind, and scanned his surroundings glancing over Engil and Tyor then finally locked eyes with Roen.
"Hahaha I was wondering why I woke up so much earlier than expected. Turns out someone else's sacrifice was kicking up a storm in my territory. Tell me, who has your life." The being's words did not seem to match his mouth as if the words were being translated. However what he said startled Engil.
'Did he just say Roen is another's sacrifice?'
"I am no one's sacrifice! I have killed my captor, and every other monster just like you! And now you will die by my hands, so that I can use your body to tell your queen that I am coming for her head!"
"Empty words."
The being disappeared from the spot it was just standing from and before anyone could react, lightly pushed Roen with it's two right arms sending him flying through the walls.
"Seriously, I wake up to such weaklings." The being turned around to the speach less Engil and the unconscious Tyor, but heard a sound behind him.
Roen slowly came back in through the hole that he was previously sent through. Blood was seeping from in between the scales on his armor.
"Madness script, verse one."
Following Roen's words his armor started to writhe and twist while his eyes never left the body of the being. A deeply rooted anger burned deeply in his eyes. Roen's originally white hair turned blood red and every step he took shook the castle.
"Hoo~ that looks fun." The being's carefree tone overlooked the oppressive feeling coming from Roen. Then he disappeared and again sent the same attack at Roen. However Roen was prepared this time and the writhing white cloak separated from the path of the fist allowing it to pierce right through his chest.

Ursus Ex Machina
Ozzy was a man of the wild. Raised in a remote village atop the world's mightiest mountain, he'd been taught to respect and revere the natural world. The realm he was born into had been there long before him, and it would remain there long after him. Sure, there was the occasional madman who threatened to destroy it, but such boasts were always empty. No one individual was actually capable of demolishing this beautiful blue-and-green ball Ozzy called home. No matter what terrible magics these villains wielded, they were incapable of causing permanent harm to the environment. Even if the planet was completely devastated, it would recover. Life would find a way to flourish, same as it always had. That was what Ozzy believed from the bottom of his heart, so he never once felt the need to save the world he loved. After all, it was never truly in danger. The world would be fine no matter what. The people were a wee bit endangered, but that was another story altogether. However, what would happen if Ozzy suddenly found himself devoid of his beloved wilds? What would the man do if the realm he knew - one of wonder, magic, and chaos - was replaced with a man-made environment of concrete, industry, and steam? Ozzy could never imagine such a thing happening, and yet that was his new reality. After losing a fateful confrontation with a mad wizard, he and his friends found themselves transported to a strange world so thoroughly alien that every waking moment feels like a fever dream. Separated and scattered to the four corners of this land, each of these adventurers will need to adapt, survive, and overcome if they hope to reunite. They would also need to do so quickly. The sooner they are able to find one another, the sooner they can figure out a way back home and have another crack at putting an end to the villain's plans. Whether such a thing was actually possible in a world with barely any magic in it was a valid concern, but Ozzy had more immediate things to worry about. For instance, why did the air smell like a perpetual forest fire? How did ships sail through the sky as if it were water? And most importantly, was the pavement he was hurtling towards at high speed much softer than it looked? Probably not, but a man could hope.

A Primeval Future
Follow the story of a modern caveman as he learns to survive, thrive, and shape his nascent civilization in a world yet untouched by man. Expect a focus on the nitty-gritty of primitive living, especially early on. I plan for this to eventually progressing to the settlement management and politics stage as people gravitate towards the one guy who looks like he knows what he's doing, but this will likely take some time. Despite the occasional system elements, skilling and levels will not be a part of this story. No shortcuts. There will be violence and there will be sexuality but there will be no sexual violence. I hate reading that crap and I hate writing it even more. This is my first serious foray into writing. I plan to put out at least 1 chapter a week, more when I can. Constructive criticism is very much welcomed as are ideas and suggestions! Cover image credit: "Mesolithic camp site" by Wessex Archaeology is licensed with CC BY-NC 2.0.
