Chapter 26- The Sage's Castle
Roen and Engil were currently running to the best of their abilities while dragging Tyor on the ground. All around them runes and lines were lighting up and shining brightly.
Suddenly a spear, made from runes, would rocket towards their direction. Roen would give an annoyed sigh while Engil would step out of its way with Tyor. They completed this action as if they had plenty of practice. The castle around them would groan and quake sending cracks into the floor and ceiling.
"This is getting annoying Roen, why are we getting no where."
"You said this whole thing used to be a weapon right?"
"Yea, but how does that..."
"He fused his soul into these runes somehow, but can you stop it."
"I don't know what you're saying."
"You know runes right? I don't, so you have to shut this thing down."
"You want me to shut down a system of runes that not even those old monsters in the Lands of Sorcery can't even start?"
"Well you can always let his soul fuse with this weapon which I advise you not to."
Engil was still debating on whether or not death was a better option.
"Aarrgh! Fine, but most likely I need to get back into the room we were just in. However if he can keep manipulating these rooms, that'll be impossible."
"Leave that to me."
Saying that Roen's originally white cloth turned into a pitch black, tight fit outerwear. Two black arms burst out from Roen's shoulders and Roen's hair changed into black that matched the outerwear.
"This is always a nice feeling."
Roen then turned to a wall and shot forward. With each step visibly imprinting itself into the floor. As he reached the wall his two right hands clasped palms and struck the wall in tandem.

BOOOOOOOOM!
A thunderous sound deafened the surroundings and the wall caved in exposing the outside. The walls immediately began to reform themselves and, without wasting a breath, Roen rushed over to the surprised Engil holding onto Tyor and threw them out the closing gap.
"YOU BASTARD HOW DARE YOU USE MY BODY!!"
"Humph let me show you how to truely use the Varnus' body."
Roen then clasped all four arms together above his head and silver markings started to reveal themselves starting from his hands. Sweat began to pour from Roen's face as the markings climbed up his arms. The voice of the castle grew silent for a second, and, without another word, tens of rune spears launched themselves at Roen from all angles. All the spears hit their mark, but Roen's face held no notice of the pain as the silver markings stopped after forming on all four of his forearms. He shut his eyes quickly and sent his thoughts to Engil.
'I leave it to you.'
Then he swung the four arms down like they were a heavenly hammer crushing whatever was beneath them.
~ P.O.V. Of Engil ~
He threw me too far. I flew all the way past the ramparts and outside the city. Guh! Hitting the ground with a force akin to having a hammer crashing into my ribs I saved myself from most of the force by using Tyor as a cushion. I quickly check Tyor for signs of breathing and what do you know the bastard's still alive. I wish him a good rest as I bury his body him in the ground. Of course I leave a breathing hole. I think.
Turning to look at the Sage's Castle with it's four spider like appendages stamping the ground, and think it's an amazing sight. Looks like a giant four legged spider with a grand castle on it's back minus the spider and plus the Nightmare's soul or whatever it was that Roen told me about.

I could probably run away now. I mean Roen has a lot of trump cards right? He'll just give me a few bashes afterwards and say that I would've gotten in the way right?
'I leave it to you.' Roen's voice retorted through my thoughts.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!
A huge explosion that felt like the ground was experiencing the wrath of a god occurred. I had the pleasure of witnessing the huge moving castle suddenly being plunged into the ground. From where I stood I could see a massive collision of the castle there was a huge dust cloud covering most the castle and the parts I did see were in a disastrous state. The original three towers at the top had broken to a almost crumbled one and the ever so majestic walls were in shambles. I could still feel the ground shaking heavily from the aftershock. Parts of the 50 foot tall ramparts began to crumble, and the ground was split open in other parts.
He handled it alright...
However, to my horror, the castle started to restore itself brick by brick in an almost snail like manner.
Roen's words rang through my head again.
Can't I just run away? Why do I have to risk my life for something I have no idea how to do?
No matter what excuse I told myself my wolf paws wouldn't move from that spot.
Come on Roen what sick joke are you playing?! I'm not as strong as you or even Tyor!! I'm not even that good with runes! What can I do in this situation?!
Roen's words kept staining my thoughts with every excuse I could muster.
"Roen you think I'll work just because you say it!! Fat chance, I'm not gonna risk my life for something so crazy!!" I screamed towards the castle. All my anger and frustration were concentrated into my venting. Roen's words were no longer echoing in my head.
My body is no longer rigid I can finally run away. I will forever remember you Roen.
I take my first step. Then my next step. The rest of my paws follow. My body starts to trot, then run, and finally sprint. I sprint with all the energy I can muster towards the slowly reforming castle.

Alexandra Bedford is a weapon, a young woman with telekinetic powers capable of leveling entire cities, born to fight in the desolate remains of post-apocalyptic North America. There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
