《Rain Revert (Reboot)》Prologue

“Whenever I'm late, could you please do the opening preparations?”
A man on his thirties asked Rain.
“Sure, no problem. But is it really okay to give a key to a student who only works part-time? There's no guarantee I won't do anything bad, right?” Rain answered.
He was still 16 years old, still a high school student, only working due to financial problems.
He was working at a restaurant and at the same time, a bar called [Heaven’s Rest] as an apprentice chef/waiter/ and sometimes bartender of a friend he had known for a long time. Glen Robert. He treated him as an uncle, a friend, and an elder brother. He was among those he can truly call family in this world.
He was an orphan, discarded when he was a child inside a trash bin, fortunately, some kindly found him and took him to the authority, which put him in a small-time orphanage.
He had a good life but when he entered high school, he decided to separate and lived for himself to become independent. As to why… well, aside from the fact that most of the children that he had been with him, were one by one been taken care of by other families and got adopted, perhaps he was just that unlucky, or strange, since not one family took a liking to him, but also with the reason that the Orphanage started to have some trouble financially.
He cannot continue to leech off, was what he thought, though the Orphanage mother superior didn’t share the same thought regardless, still, he insisted.
As a means of supporting his life and studies, Rain work on many establishments.
Due to that he somehow became learned in many life skills, works and such…
“Hoho. I'm sure Rain won't do those kinds of things, right?”

The man in front of him was Glen Robert, the owner of [Heaven’s Rest].
He had met him since way back when he was still in the orphanage.
Glen was one of the Sponsors of the Orphanage… he was well-known in this area as a kindly and generous person.
Faced with the dashing smile displayed by Glen, Rain felt rather anxious and unsettled.
Such responsibility had made him rather nervous at the same time happy for the trust.
“Still, aren't there university kids who work part-time as shopkeepers too? There were also regulars…”
“Nah, you’re good enough. I trust you more than them…” He answered.
Rain couldn’t do anything and just accept it.
After which, while carrying his bag pack, Rain made sure that the shop was already locked tight that even a rat can’t find his way in when he left. Nowadays, the security of the City is worrying.
There had been many murders, thefts, and even indecent assaults towards boys and girls. Yeah, even to boys and men. Really, here I thought girls are the only one in danger. To think handsome boys like me would start worrying about my chastity… really, how has the world changed?
In the way, while lamenting about the world’s twisted change, Rain saw a convenience store and decided to drop by for a bit and bought some cup noodles which would become his next lunch/dinner for several days. It’s a bit unhealthy but… it’s the fate of a poor man.
Although he knows how to cook and make a meal of everything he can have on, which he took great pride in, sadly, even the cleverest housewife cannot cook rice without rice. Rain’s financial condition offered him nothing to buy ingredients for a great meal.
Ding! Dong! The electronic sliding door sounded when Rain left the store, with him bringing a plastic bag filled with cup noodles and some energy bars on sale, nearing expiry date, offered at low prices. He can snack with them while doing homework, he thought.

While walking towards his rundown apartment, which he had managed to acquire for only a cheap price ( Due to rumors of some not-good-to-hear stories ), Rain spotted a black colored snake slithering through the street.
He noticed it despite the darkness because of its shining under the dim streetlight. Rain was startled at the unusual animal that shouldn’t be seen in the center of the city. As Rain was trying to pretend that he didn’t see anything, “Woah!” Suddenly in front of him, a black cat jumps out causing some of his cup noodle’s to spill out from the plastic. Its golden feline eyes stared at him while growling.
“Easy girl,” Rain mumbled as he slowly picked up to scattered cup noodles, somewhat apprehensive. What’s going on today?
Kwak! Kwak! Following the sounds, Rain noticed the black colored birds hovering above him. Although because of the Darkness which the dim street light wasn’t helping at all, he couldn’t see quite clearly, still Rain could recognize those types of birds as easy as recognizing panties over briefs.
Just from those cries alone, anyone would immediately know that they were none other than; Crows.
“Full list of unlucky signs ey?” Rain couldn’t help but smile bitterly.
What’s with this day? He had noticed since this morning, he was rather unlucky. Stepping in dog crap just after leaving the house, almost run down by a car, scolded by the teacher for things he hadn’t done which were in fact was his seat mate’s fault, as well as sliding on the floor when he was working, being splashed with water when two lovers were having a quarrel… haa, what a weird day…
As Rain was sighing bitterly from his misfortunes while turning right, he hasn’t discovered the incoming doom.
He only noticed when he was hit by the light and before he could react, he felt as if he was rammed by something and was sent flying. On his blurry vision, all he could see was a front face of a truck with its lights glaring at him…
Truck-sama?!
Even you too…?!
That was the last thing that crossed Rain’s mind before losing consciousness.

The Chronicles of Artharian Dagworth
Back in 2020 there were many theories on how the world would end. From the many religions apocalypses, nuclear wars that would leave the planet inhabitable, global warming doing the same, biological weapons getting out of control, viruses mutating into unstoppable diseases to the dead raising to prey on humanity, either due to a virus or just because hell filled up. Also, aliens, from the war mongering kind to the ones so advanced they didn’t see us as more than worms. And of course there was the fail proof theory that the world would end when the sun died. In a bunch of billion years give or take. Althougth some new scientist were discussing if the end would be on the take side, since when the sun started dying things would go haywire on the entire solar system and we would collide with mercury or maybe mars way before the expanding sun engulfed earth. But I digress… Now, those were the mainstream theories that the everyday Joe, who didn’t know the big secret, worried about. So, if you were to ask me which theory was correct I can tell you that I haven’t seen any little green man, at least not from another planet, and so far the sun is still shining, although it’s been only 9 years since everything went to hell, not the few billions (give or take) the scientist predicted, so that one isn’t ruled out yet. These two aside, I'd say all of them. Hey everyone, this is my first attempt at writing. I have been planning to do it for a really long time, and while this is not the one epic fantasy idea I ever wanted to write, I think it's a good one. The plan is to write an end of the world urban-fantasy series. Think a world like Dresden Files, Alex Verus, Iron druid, where magic is real but exist hidden from society meets the apocalypse. It will be written in first person in the Dresden Files style, no plans for other POV for now. As you probally alredy guessed from my style, english is not my first langague, so while google corrector helps, expect grammar errors, and I'd be gratefull for anyone to point them. I plan to write 2 to 3 chapters a week, 2000-4000 words each. Might change as I get more experience and depends on my free time. Cover image from the colections of getwallpapers.com

Gaming on a MUD is difficult.
This is a story based on my characters background and journal that I played on a mud (Multi User Dungeon) over the course of several years. Dozens of people play a text based command line game at the same time. I figured I'd try to turn in into a story to see if anyone found it interesting. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think. This is my first time so not very experienced. It is a story about how going into a multi player game expecting a typical RPG experience turns into something else because other players are involved.
