《Phantom Demon [Moved]》Chapter 11: Resolution

As Nalser was thinking over all he was told that day, his head was in chaos. In his mind, he understood that he currently wasn’t strong enough to take revenge but he also couldn’t make the thought leave his head. Finally after hours of debating everything inside his head, he let out a sigh, “Well, for starters I should try to survive the Foundation Establishment. As for the rest, I can think about it then.”
It wasn’t that he gave up on revenge for now voluntarily, he just had no choice on this matter. If he couldn’t survive the calamity of the double bodily constitution, there would be of no use of the plans he had made. Nalser looked up towards the starry sky and said weakly, “Well, I guess everything will be revealed when I pass the Empyrean Tribulation. Before that, there is no use in brooding over things that I am utterly powerless to change.”
He was a kind of a practical person, there was no use in thinking over things that may or could happen. What was important was here and now. Making up his mind to lock down the thoughts of revenge for now, he focused on inspecting his body. To be honest, he hadn’t thought about the hidden injuries his extreme training would bring. The more he inspected his body, the more grim his face turned. His body was filled with hidden injuries through and through.
He let out a sigh and said, “Well, seems like I was on direct path to the coffin if that old man hadn’t interfered.” When he now started think about his training lately, he started feeling very embarrassed. He had thrown all caution to the wind and he could currently see the results of that. He didn’t dare to imagine what would have happened if he didn’t have the helping elixirs. He realized that he had been very hasty and also very impatient.
He decided to take a time out and focus on healing his injuries. He also changed his plans a bit, when before he planned on reaching Foundation Establishment first and then going out to adventure. Since he now found out the he will most likely die after reaching Foundation Establishment. There was no way in seven Hells that he would die without seeing the world a bit.
For the next few weeks, he kept meditating, taking healing medicine and slowly healing the different hidden injuries inside his body. He also went to the bridge every day and had a look at the different exits that led to various worlds. He remembered the names of the worlds and then went to the Library to look them up a bit. The information was most likely very outdated but he had no newer sources of information, so he had nothing to do now. During the time he was quietly meditating, he actually rose from the peak of 11 Stage of Qi Gathering to the 12 Stage. Now he understood clearly, just how badly the hidden injuries impacted his training. He didn’t cultivate at all but he just meditated and healed his injuries but his Qi rose by a level nonetheless. All he could was bitterly smile and reflect on his bad training choice.
He also went to the Armoury to pick out a few protective treasures. However, he was shocked to find out that the outfit he was currently wearing was actually the most powerful defensive Artefact that Shaon had ever forged. It was also his favourite one so he kept using it the most and nurturing with his Qi. So over the passage of time the Artefact had grown extremely strong. He found the jade slip that gave a detailed instruction on how to bind the armour and he followed it step by step. He was extremely surprised to find out that he could bind the armour when he was only in Qi Gathering but then he understood after reading the rest of the explanation.

It said that the power of the armour was a stage higher than the Master. If he was in the Qi Gathering the armour would be a Foundation Establishment Artefact and so on. After he passed the Tribulation, he would unlock the true power of the armour. “Again with the Tribulation…. Is it really such large gap? Tribulation this, Tribulation that...” As he sourly murmured to himself, he wasn’t really angry but he was now more interested in the Tribulation. He also found the gloves used by Shaon. The clothes, boots and gloves came all as a single set. Wearing the entire set multiplied the power by several fold. Although he was only in the Qi Gathering stages, thanks to the treasures and his cultivation method, he could truly wipe the floor with a Modern Era cultivator in the Foundation Establishment.
The difference in the strength of the body, purity in Qi, the flow of Qi between a Modern Era and an Ancient Era cultivator was the same as the difference between the Heavens and the Earth. The only reason that the Ancient Era cultivators lost the war was because they were outnumbered a thousand to one. No matter how good the quality, it can’t beat the quantity if the numbers are high enough.
As Nalser familiarized himself with the power of the Set, he also practised the fighting stances taught to him by his Grandpa. He now realized that it was a true fighting technique and it was actually very strong. What he did not know was that it was the personal fighting technique that his Grandpa created when he comprehended bits and pieces of Phantom Demons fighting style. Nalser hadn’t practised cultivation for long but he understood one thing: No matter whose Legacy he obtained, no matter what technique, only the techniques created by himself would be the most compatible with him.
He can learn his Grandpas techniques and Phantom Demons techniques but ultimately they will be a foundation for creating his on personal fighting technique Art. Now that his injuries had healed and he had chosen his treasures to use, he started going towards the bridge. He saw the different puppets and only glanced at them before passing them. When he reached the end of the bridge, he chose an entrance from the myriad of choices and exited through that.
When he opened his eyes again, he was in the middle of a lush green grasslands. Behind his back was big forest and behind the forest were some mountains visible. However, in front of him was an endless grassland. He took a jet black board out from a Spacial Ring he had looted from the Armoury Hall. This board was a movement Artefact. It could expand and shrink by the users will but the smaller it was, the faster it was. As he stepped on the board it shook a bit before he could fix his balance. He started flying over the grasslands at a low altitude.
As time went on his speed gradually picked up, in the beginning he was going at normal carriage speed but now he was moving like a car on a highway. Although he had practised flying with the board on Starry Island, there wasn’t a surface big enough for him to use it well. This was the first time where he could fly straight for so long. As he started enjoying the wind and flying from such an altitude, he suddenly felt Qi ripples in the distance. When he turned his head toward the direction, the Qi ripples were emanating from, a huge explosion occurred. The explosion came so suddenly that Nalser almost fell of the board from being startled. He lowered his speed and sent out his Qi sense towards the direction.

Qi sense was something he obtained when he stepped into the 10 Stage and in the book left behind by Shaon, it was the most important thing needed for close combat arts. If the user was skilled with it, during a fight, he could observe the opponents every little movement during the entire fight. It would be very easy to find the opponents weakness or an opportunity to escape with it. As his senses travelled across the grasslands he finally reached the place where the explosion occurred.
He could see two sides fighting, one side was dressed in blue robes and they seemed to be in quite the bad situation. All the older men, seemed to be protecting a young lady around 15 years old. What seemed weird was that the young lady currently seemed to be suffering from a fever.
The other side was dressed in yellow robes and they all had smug faces on. They seemed to be talking to the people in blue robes but since Qi Sense didn’t transmit sound over as well, he couldn’t make out what they were talking about. Nalser let out a sigh as he altered his course a bit, so that he would steer clear of the battlefield.
Suddenly his face changed as he looked towards the battlefield with a serious face. He kept observing with his Qi Sense and suddenly realized that one of the old men grabbed the young lady and was heading straight for Nalser. It didn’t matter how he accelerated or how he changed his course, the old man kept resolutely chasing him. Nalser frowned deeply as he stopped completely and stayed there waiting. About 15 minutes later the old man finally reached Nalser and he immediately kneeled down before Nalser and before Nalser could say anything he said, “I implore for Young Master to take my family Miss and run far away!”
Nalser’s jaw dropped to the ground but before he could even say anything, or react for that matter, the old man placed the young lady on the board and rushed back towards the fray. Nalser just stood there stupidly, not knowing what to do. “Should I just dump the little lady here and go on with my travels?” As the thought passed through his head, he immediately discarded it. From the wounds on the old man and from the lack of the wounds on the little lady, Nalser could tell very well that she was someone very precious to them. The old man didn’t hesitate to discard his pride and seniority to ask help from a junior he hadn’t even met help like this. Nalser just glanced at the little lady and couldn’t help but take a closer look at the little lady. Although she seemed only 15 years old, she looked like a little fairy, her long blonde hair quickly captivated Nalser and he fell into a daze.
Nalser was abruptly woken up when an explosion rang out nearby. “Tsk.” He bit his lip and took the little lady into his embrace and started pouring Qi into the board and it flew out like a rocket. It even left behind sonic boom. No one below the Foundation Establishment could fly, well there were a few techniques that allowed to do that or Artefacts like Nalser’s board but they were very rare even in the current Era.
Nalser crouched as he embraced the little lady and he kept flying at full speed. There was a formation that negated the air pressure, so Nalser’s only speed limit was the amount of Qi he could keep pouring in into the board. In a short period of time, he had crossed a distance of several hundred kilometers. When he could no longer find the pursuers with the Qi Sense any more, he looked around and made sure that there was no one around before taking the little lady into the Starry Island. He knew that him entering the Island like that, would leave behind a Qi Imprint but Shaon had also written that even an Empyrean King wouldn’t be able to find the Imprint if he didn’t know the exact Qi Aura.
When Nalser entered the Island, he immediately took the little lady to the Infirmary in the Training Hall. There was a special medical puppet there, he named her Medic. As for the reason it was a her was that Shaon had made it into a female puppet and he had been very detailed with this puppet for some reason. After having Medic look over her, he left her to completely check her condition.
As he sat outside cursing his luck, Medic came out and said in a feminine tone, “She needs several Water Type elixirs to heal. She has an innate affinity to Water. I suspect that she might even have a Special Water Type Body Constitution. However, she has been poisoned with a very domineering Fire Type poison. It is only thanks to the affinity with water that she has survived this long.” As Medic looked towards Nalser with an emotionless face, Nalser asked her, “Do we have these Elixirs in stock?” Medic nodded her head and then Nalser told her to administer them to her. When Medic left to get the medicine, Nalser entered the room.
***
Around the corner Sweeper and Librarian were face palming. Sweeper asked in a helpless tone, “Is this guy a natural shit magnet? How the Hell did he manage to get himself mixed up in this kind of a situation after leaving the Island for 3 hours?” Librarian could only helplessly shake his head as well.
In the beginning, they were happy that Nalser would go out to also temper himself and see the world. However only 3 hours later Nalser had come back with a little lady who was poisoned in tow. They had seen a lot more than Nalser and knew that that lady’s background was not simple, neither were the guys who had poisoned her. Unknowingly ,Nalser had mixed himself into quite a mess already.
***
In a different world behind a table were 4 old men in armour. They were Old Dragon and co. They were currently looking at a water screen in the middle of the table with a complicated expression. Finally, Little Tiger let out a weak laugh, “This guy is seriously a shit magnet…. In three hours, he managed to pick up a lady of an influential clan that is currently in the middle of an internal war. Maybe he should have never left the damn Island in the first place...”
The three others had the same kind of thoughts. Old Dragon and the rest were more informed with what was going on in the outside world than Sweeper and company. The Clan that girl was from was not simple at all and Nalser right now would be courting death if he wanted to mix himself in that fight.
**
The same kind of situation played out in myriad of different worlds. All the Ancient Experts observing Nalser all had a face that seemed like it didn’t know whether to laugh or cry on. However, in the end they could all just sigh at Nalser’s shitty luck and hope that Karma would soon pay him back for this bad luck.

Shades of the Moon
I'm rewriting this story! I have taken down Arc 2 and Arc 3 already to avoid spoiling my new novel. The only reason I'm keeping the first 10 chapters is nostalgia; the writing is awkward and the story is not plotted out properly, but it's here if anyone wants to compare it to the new one. If you'd like to read a more professionally written version of this story, I highly suggest checking out my Synergy. Synopsis version too-many-to-count: “I see,” Kiona said. “But . . . you’re changing once again, aren’t you?” The entity considered her question, lifting a clawed hand towards the night sky. They observed the back of their hand idly, watching the glowing orange veins pulse alongside their pitch-black exoskeleton. The wind picked up right then, and Kiona shivered—just as much from the cold as from the savage grin on the creature's face. “That’s right,” the entity said, clenching their hand slowly into a fist. They let out a quiet laugh, staring defiantly at the Moon as it rose from behind the clouds. “We are shades, yet not exactly. Not like the others. Here, in this world, we've become something more. We are the Shades of the Moon.” There was a heartbeat of silence, during which Kiona joined the entity in their skygazing. The light-green Moon loomed over the city, shining like the entity's eyes. It promised otherworldly knowledge and terrible secrets. It promised progress. It promised change. In that moment, Kiona couldn't have imagined anything more beautiful. “Shades of the Moon, huh?” she said, smiling a bit. It had a nice ring to it.
