“...shit.”
Meanwhile at the Kingdom of Lantanya
“What?! Where is She?!?”
Ever since the world quest was created the night prior millions of people found themselves frantically searching for the ex-best player, in a fruitless effort to get their hands on an s-ranked item.
“The quest is only E++ rank, that means she must've only spawned recently. So why isn't she here? Who doesn't spawn here?”
Kingdom of Latania- the most popular location by far, it’s numbers alone accounts for over 40% of the entire game's population, and why wouldnt it? With early access to skills like [Instant Transmission] and [Dismantle]- and techniques like [Katana Fighting] it’s no wonder that it's so popular.
“Hmph! These people are so dumb~” smugly stated a blond girl with a small stature. “Oi, No reason to insult others because of their lack of information on the inner workings of an insane person like Katherine.” replied a gargantuan of a man with silver hair. The small girl looked down towards the man whose shoulders she sat on and he looked up, “The Desolate Wasteland” they both said simultaniously.
And so… they both made their way towards the land people rarely touch.
Back with Hecate.

“...Shit.”
Hecate’s mood instantly soured and the beaming smile on her face turned into an angry scowl.
“Are you- like- fucking- what the hell?!?” she couldn't finish her own sentences. “Which bastard did this? Was it Paul? I know that fucker had it out for me!!”
“Clrranggg!!” Hecate’s violent shouts were rudely interrupted by a strange screaming noise.
Turning around, her vision was cursed with the sight of a giant two foot long ant.
“oh don't even start” she hardened the skin on her knuckles and stretched the rest of her arm as far as she could before suddenly jerking her shoulder forward, launching her fist at the strange creature crushing its exoskeleton inwards in the process.
[You’ve exterminated a monster, Experience has been earned.]
It wasn’t long before another equally sized creature crawled out of the hole in the ground that the first crawled out of, and what followed were hundreds of identical creatures.
“Fuuuuuuuuuuuck oooofffff!”
Crack! Crack! Crack!
The sounds of bodies being destroyed indiscriminately rang throughout the open air as Hecate mercilessly slaughtered the insects that crawled out of the hole.
[You’ve exterminated a monster, Experience ha- You’ve exterminated a monster, Experience ha- You’ve exterminated a monster, Experience ha- You’ve exterminated a monster, Your Level has risen.]
The dying screams mixed with the monotone voice of the system sounded like music to the deranged girls ears.
And so a few hours passed.

“That's what you get, ya’ damn bugs.” she heaved in between heavy sighs. Surrounding her were piles upon piles of ruined insect remains.

“Ha:” she let loose a dry chuckle. “This game really is so unfair.” the girl’s muscles gave out and she fell to the floor.
“Wha-”
How much time had passed since she killed the last bug? A few minutes? Hours? Honestly she couldn't tell. An exhausted body plus the blazing sun made for a very trance-like atmosphere.
[Notice: Your Suffocating.]
“Mph.” she tried to shout but her mouth filled with sand, in response to such an unexpected situation- the girl tried to move only to find herself unable.
She was sinking- quite rapidly in fact deep into the sand that she had been laying on for quite awhile. “Gah!” she tried to shout but her mouth filled with sand- at this rate she would suffocate to death.
[Notice: You’re Suffocating]
‘Shit! Shit! Shit! This is really-’
[You’ve entered the hidden entrance: Anthill Monotony]
‘What the hell?’

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.

Try Again
How do you picture the phrase, incapable of dying? Invulnerability? Invincibility? Immortality? Whatever word you choose, it seems like a useful ability to have, right? While others might think it would be great to never die, I think it might just be a curse. Would you choose to be incapable of dying if it meant that every time you were going to die you just restarted your whole life all over again?
