《The Foxy Dungeon》First Draft Ch. 8 The wayward fae

I’ve got to keep going! I can’t stop! No one believes me, but I know. Corruption is spreading. We need to find a new home to be safe. I know that there isn’t a demon or undead dungeon anywhere within the Grand Forest, but it’s coming! We need somewhere new to be safe. The Elves won’t be able to stop it. If the World Tree falls, all hope will be lost for the entire world. But with this seed, I will move the World Tree. Even Goddess Alena didn’t know that I stole this seed. She knows that I can sense the coming disaster, but she would have me scout for a new home.
Dungeons aren’t the only source of evils though. Just because monsters are mainly born in dungeons, doesn’t mean that they are bound to them. Although they are often weak and die to local wildlife, there are monsters that exist outside of dungeons. But what if a demon was born! It needs to be someplace that is safe and defendable! I don’t want the world to die… I can’t fail!
Without Goddess Alena’s blessing, I don’t doubt I’d have died long ago… So many things are trying to kill me. There was even a plant that tried to gobble me up! I’m glad that I made that contract with Alena, but once it’s over, how will I bring others over? The world is too dangerous for me to travel alone… I also need to find strong guardians to help defend the World Tree from disaster. I can’t give up! Not even if an army of frogs stands in my way…
Wh-why wouldn’t any-anyone believe me! Now I’m all alone! Nothing around but things that want to eat me! I’m trapped in this w-web and even if I can’t be hurt by the spider I will still die of hunger! I-it’s the spider! Whu whu waahhh! Why is a bird holding me! Help help, somebody help meeeeeeeee!

After many challenges, I finally have a place to go. Soon this terrible ordeal will be over. Goddess Alena contacted me again and told me she has a place that might work. She told me she has some preparations to do, but that the place should be perfect. I’d even be able to have bodyguards on the trip home! Soon I’ll be safe and never need to worry again!
So it’s in this cave right? I have a bad feeling about the cave though… Should I enter? But this is the place that Goddess Alena sent me. It should be safe, right? As I walk in I can feel a high density of mana. Weird, mana rarely forms this densely in the wild, does this mean that some monster might appear and attack me! Wait, the Goddess told me that she was preparing something so maybe she was taking control of this area. Yeah that must be it, this density is due to Alena somehow. I walk further in as I comfort myself with that thought, still too nervous to fly. Suddenly a person appears. It seems to be a girl in strange garment. She also has a fox tail with fox ears. Wait, why did she just grab me? Help help, somebody help me!!!
Is it due to how I said it? I can’t help but wonder as Yuna walks back here from the entry room with a struggling fairy in her grasp. I know I said to receive her, but isn’t this a little too ridiculous? I noticed after she entered that she was the one sent by the power that visited me. I was surprised when Yuna noticed her before she even entered the dungeon though. The power of a three-tailed kitsune is amazing. She even has the false wall illusion up despite being at the entrance of the dungeon. She might even be able to defeat enemies like that Orc that appeared before. A direct power struggle might be out of the question, but with her illusions, it’s doubtful that she’d lose. She could also first group that appeared as well. Although I shouldn’t recklessly assume that she can handle anything now. I was overconfident the first time and I won’t risk losing her again over a stupid mistake!

When Yuna returns to the core room with the fairy in hand, a high pitch scream, surpassing many cries for help prior, occurs. “DUNGEON!” she screeches. It seems that the screams are causing Yuna discomfort going by the expression on her face. I bet she’d do something terrible to the terrified fairy if I hadn’t told her that the fairy was like a guest and shouldn’t be treated like an invader. After waiting until she tired herself out I begin trying to communicate. “Greeting, can you hear me?” to this I am given a nearly unintelligible response that ends with, “the dungeon can talk.” “You have been sent here, correct?” I ask probing for information. Unlike the power, this fairy may give more information. “You work for Goddess Alena?” And now I learn the true nature of who I was dealing with. To think I met a god. Well, first to clear up the misunderstanding here. “I do not work for The Goddess, but I owe her a great debt, this place may be your home.” To my surprise, she’s looking down as crying. What did I do wrong here?
“No no, how can this be? Did I fail everyone? Dungeon! I beg of you, please accept others of my kind!” She said with conviction. I really see no problem with them being here though, plus I felt like just accepting the one wasn’t very good to work as repayment to that goddess, even if she likes to threaten more than necessary. “I accept your request,” sparkles in her eyes appeared, “now we should give introductions I would think. I am the dungeon Inari” “You aren’t lying right?” she asked doubting me. I inform her that I’m not and she seemed to relax. Yuna decided to place her on the ground at this point. A light snoring appeared.
“Are you sure of this master?” Yuna asks while looking my way worriedly. “I am sure. It is thanks to the power I received that we are able to have this conversation now. Although there may be risks involved with my actions, we just have to overcome whatever troubles come our way. Overcoming ordeals is one of the best methods of growth after all.” I realize that I may just be trying to excuse my actions with that last remark, but it does hold some truth. “You need not worry of those ordeals master. So long as I am here, I will keep you safe!” It’s good to have such reliable servant like Yuna.

Catalyst: Avowed
The year is 605, and in your home— the country of Corcaea— the souls of mankind belong to demons. A phenomenon known as the "Catalyst" is what's to blame. This diabolical phenomenon lurks within every man, woman, and child. It can turn any human into a demon, if they fall prey to one, all-consuming element. It can be anything. Fear. Grief. Generosity. Even love. In a land where Gods are real and Corcaea's theocracy is the last hope for mankind, you follow in the footsteps of Father Richard Anscham: a deeply disturbed young priest, the leader of the Church of Mercy, and the foremost researcher of the Catalyst. Despite completing a holy mission from the Goddess of Mercy, obtaining a holy Relic, and escaping from demon-infested ruins, Father Anscham is in greater peril than ever before. Ravaged in mind, body, and soul, the solace he begs to receive from the Church of Flesh is impeded by a cruel lesson: the ramifications of a life spent sacrificing everything one has for others. See through the harrowing eyes of a man at his wit's end; through a dark fantasy tale of horror, hope, and desperation. Search for the cure. Conquer your personal demons. Welcome to Catalyst! As this is an archive of Catalyst Quest (an interactive, collaborative story), the prompts that were included with the original run of Avowed have been stripped, and the story is presented like a traditional novel for your reading convenience. If you would like to read Catalyst in its original format or participate in current events, you can find us here, on Sufficient Velocity. This book is complete! The story will continue with Catalyst: Calunoth, just as soon as I am done revising its content for here on Royal Road.
