《In My Head》Chapter 6 Lawspeaker

I had plenty of time to listen to the various characters in my mind arguing about the course of action I should take as we walked through the halls of the building. There really was no easy way out of this now that the Magus was here and paying attention.
While we went I got to see a number of windows, the bright light that flowed through them made me feel just a bit ill if I got too close to it, though seemed to do nothing other than weaken me. They also gave me a good view of the city outside. From what I could see is was fairly big, with buildings stacked one on top of the other. We were on a hill of some kind from what I could tell and this place seemed to be at the very top of it, standing well above the other buildings. There was also a stone wall surrounding the whole place, outside of which was nothing for quite some distance, like everything had been stripped bare for the area around.
Kale and Shana were coming along with us, presumably as witnesses. Shana seemed nice enough, but Kale. Every time I looked at him all I could feel was painful want, I wanted him, I wanted his blood like nothing else. It didn't even seem to be just the smell, just something about him was driving me up the wall. I'd have to figure that out later, for now though I tried to avoid looking in his direction, if for nothing else than to keep my head.
When we finally got to the door to the courtyard I hesitated. As the sunlight spilled over me it was like a physical blow. I could feel it leeching out my strength, and nearly stumbled from the loss. A quick look inside myself showed my status, beside each of my stats was another number, half, rounded down. At the bottom I reread the important bit.

Light weakness- Light spells deal an extra 20% damage to you. Under direct sunlight your Stats are halved.
Ugh, walking to wherever this Lawspeaker was was going to be an absolute nightmare. As I was thinking that all I wanted to do was curl up and sleep Shana looked over.
"Are you completely sure about the healer? You look terribly sick."
The Magus joined her in looking at me. "Really miss... the aftereffects of that spell might be doing something to you..."
"I'm quite alright. If we could continue on I'm sure it will be fine." I tried to smile and keep my chin up, readjusting my posture so that my back was straight and everything was very formal.
I had no idea what a noble was supposed to be like, but I supposed that if I just behaved in a way that seemed upright and formal that would be best. I tried to measure my steps as we went to the gate.
Two guards were there, big burly men in some basic armor, mail hauberks over gambeson with a green tabard as a cover. It had symbols on it but I didn't recognize them at all. They greeted us and we began to walk down the street. I was having a hard time with focus and everything else, but if I had to guess I would say they seemed leery of us, particularly of the magus.
The school was mostly stone with heavy decoration, but as we got into the city I saw some very different buildings. Most were two or three stories, with a small bit of stone forming a sort of foundation and wood framing with white insides forming the rest. I wasn't sure exactly how it was made, but it seemed to be of lower quality than the pure stonework.

Soon enough though we found ourselves at another pure stone building. This one was rather plain and severe in its construction, looming over the surroundings like a judge. If I'd needed to actually breathe I would have sighed in relief as we came inside. Just being out of that hateful light was such a relief.
We were led over to an office. The double doors were large and thick. Inside was a room covered in books. On each wall were shelves, as well as additional stacks here and there in an almost haphazard formation. The floors were stone and inlaid with a number of what I recognized as spell circles of some form. In front of us was a desk, at which sat an ancient man bent over a book.
"Greetings," he said, his voice creaking with age. "What brings you here today."
"There has been a magical accident Lawspeaker. We seek your wise judgement as to the disposition." Magus Victor spoke with thick formality.
"A not uncommon occurrence. I shall speak to each involved privately. Let us start with whoever would be the victim." At his words the other three bowed and moved out of the room.
The old man looked at me and for a second I thought his eyes flashed gold. His long hair may have only existed in small patches, but the look he had told me he was not an enemy I wanted to make. I felt shivers going up and town my spine as he gazed at me and it felt like he could see everything.
"I know what you are. Sit, and tell me how things came to be." He motioned to a nearby chair, which I quickly made my way to.

Legendary Farmer (available on Kindle July 2022!)
NOTE: Legendary Farmer is now COMPLETE. The first book, Clearing, was released on Kindle Unlimited July 5, 2022 with significant edits. I will post the first chapter of Clearing, as well as three chapters of Cuckoo's Dream, another novel in the LF universe, as a stub, with a link to the first book, so if you love LF and want me to be able to keep writing consistently, please go give Clearing five stars! In the VRMMORPG, Veritas Online, things are getting a little stale. Since the game launched, only one world- wide event has occurred, and that was a year ago.. The players are still having fun, but everyone agrees it’s about time for something big to happen. Everybody tends to forget that big things grow from small things, and little things are always changing in Veritas. The human country of Quarternell is at peace for the first time in... ever. Aspen, a former war hero, feels like he’s earned a quiet life together with his animal companions. They’re tired of fighting, and other people in general. They plan to live peacefully, far away from the city. As soon as Aspen figures out this farming thing out, he’s never going to go anywhere again. Unfortunately for Aspen, his country and his goddess aren’t quite done with him yet.Rouge the Rogue is a casual gamer in Veritas Online. She’s just a kid, and her focus is supposed to be on school and hanging out with friends. Emphasis on ‘supposed to’. She’s already pretty good at the school thing, and she doesn’t actually have that many friends. What she really loves is exploring all the cool ways the developers of Veritas found to make their game unique and realistic. Then she’s offered a very special quest, and an opportunity to go beyond the average player. She’s never been that much of a rule follower anyway....Clearing is appropriate for most ages. It has minimal foul language, no sex, and some violence. It is LGBTQ+ friendly. (P.S. IMPORTANT! This book contains very mild profanity, no sex, and is meant to be FUN. Yes, the characters sometimes think Deep Thoughts, and idealism pretty much runs rampant, but, in the end, I hope you just enjoy reading it. Laugh, cry, share it with your kids, read it to your dog, whatever makes you happy. My goal is for it to be accessible to everyone from ages 12ish on up, so you could definitely consider it YA, but with lots of big words because I don't believe in talking down to my readers.) Book Two: Harrowing (Starts after the original Chapter Fifty, now Sixteen, since I condensed chapters from the same perspective together.) Zoey has started her summer internship at Veritas Corporation, and she can honestly say that being an adult is boring. Until she starts learning secrets she was never supposed to know. In game, Rouge is finally making progress on her big quest. Apparently Duke Penbrooke took too long to return to the world, so the world is coming to get him... in the form of a few assassins. Aspen is going to have to face the life he left behind, and deal with the fact that it's not as easy being 'dead' as he thought. When what he'd hoped would be a short trip back to civilization to resupply turns into a whole lot more, he'll have to fight for his life, his friends, and his kingdom. Book Three: Sowing Rouge and Aspen have reached Bright, only to find that their enemies were already expecting them. They will have to quickly unravel the mysteries of who their opponents actually are, because they're already ten steps behind. Rouge and Aspen are finally home, but that doesn't mean they can return to their peaceful days of farming. Their enemies are hot on their heels and determined to destroy everything they've managed to achieve. Join them and all their friends for the final volume of Legendary Farmer.

The False Paladin
Divine Paladins, a title given to those who were blessed with the Lord's Favor, are the pillars of the kingdom of Calorin. However, a kingdom cannot simply be built from ideals of honor and duty. Sir Roel, the 58th Divine Paladin, knows that he's no hero. His sword is fake, his actual powers are middling, and his thoughts grow more cynical with every passing day. Upon receiving his next task, an order to assassinate a member of royalty, he wonders if the only thing he can do is bow his head and obey. Set in a medieval-era world in which brute strength is often subordinate to the schemes and machinations of the ruling class, this is a low fantasy story about a hero who struggles not only against monsters but also the idea that he's supposed to be the one fighting them. This fiction updates once to twice a week and each chapter is a minimum of 1000 words.
