《Steven the Understanding》Steven, giver of Names

Something had changed ever since the Beast had put on its new cloths, and Steven didn’t like it. Not one bit. There was an aura around the thing that was so foreign to Steven’s way of thinking that it felt more unnatural than walking beside a small green humanoid with sharp teeth. Try as he might, the man couldn’t put his finger on it until they cam up to another small green beast. The thing was already half way to stabbing Steven with a sharp lump of metal, before he even noticed it was there. Nothing much changed after noticing since all Steven did was sit there and panic, so the beast stabbed him in the stomach. Only it didn’t. The cloths the Beast had made him stopped the lump dead. Of course it still hurt, and Steven eventually had to knock the new Beasts hand away when it kept trying, visibly confused at how its expert stabbing skill failed.
Steven’s Beast walked up with what he was starting to dread was confidence, slapped the newcomer right in its little green face, and then pointed beside Steven. The little guy, who Steven was having a panic attack now not because it had tried to stab him, but because now that there was more than one he needed to come up with some sort of name for these things, stood right behind Steven. It just sat there, waiting to be told what to do next, like a psychopath. That’s when Steven looked at the beast and waited to be told what to do next. The Beast looked at steven and nodded, looked at the new guy, who Steven decided to call Lil Green, and gave a slightly shallower nod.
One hour later the Beast and Steven were being followed by a whole gaggle that Steven had named; Greeny, because Steven had a very hard time disassociating what he saw with what how he remembered people; Mr. Roberts, because the little guy had a chin exactly like his 4th grade science teacher; Lil Green Jr, because he had a chin exactly like Lil Green; and Yellow Green, because the more Steven got a look at these Greens (he decided that was going to be their species name) the more they looked a little yellowish as well as green. Absolutely terrible naming sense aside, the pair now had a following of little murderous monsters.

Steven assumed this would continue, presumable until the end of time, the next time they ran into a beast, the poor thing never even had a chance to try and stab anyone before it was slapped into confusion. The Beast did something different. It pointed behind Lil Green. Lil Green then slapped the visibly confused new guy before nodding at me. Steven knew something important had just happened, but he was too busy feeling bad for the new guy to notice. He felt so broken up about what had happened, he even had the decency not to curse the new beast with a terrible name.
