《Echoing Call Of Loneliness》Chapter 4

Sturona, a lively and thriving kingdom of the merpeople, surrounded by soft sand, lush sea plants, and beautiful coral of all shapes, sizes, and colors. The architect is full of arches, sharp edges with blending blues, and intricate carvings telling tales of old. Right now, we are in a small part of the kingdom, also called the Farmer's Market. There are stalls of different items side by side. It is peaceful, merpeople buzzing around, sellers yelling out their wares.
But the peace was soon broken by a seahorse drawn shell carriage steadily stopping at the middle of the market, the driver opening the door for someone. A built youngster came out, his short dark hair slightly waving. His skin sun-kiss, face etched with a dark bristly goatee. It was Prince Ethan! Anyone could judge by his bright, painted markings on his skin and sapphire, silver adornments. Prince Ethan looks around the market, rummaging around at an old mermaid's stall. She is selling odds and ends. He makes small talk with her, still searching around until he sees something shimmery and fast swim past him from far away.
'What was that?' Ethan thought a confused look crossed his face. The old mermaid looked at me just as confused as I was.
"What's wrong, dear?" She says, now a little concerned. The royal merman shakes his head,
"Nothing," he says, going back to rummaging. Then the prince saw it again, but it looked more like...a tail! He drops whatever is in his hand, quickly following whatever it is. The rich, confident mer tried to keep up with it, hiding behind a big piece of pale pink coral as the thing stops. He soon realizes it's a merman, but something isn't right.
The tail was too long, he has claws that looked non-retractable, and was much more beautiful that the mermaids Ethan has ever seen. As he tries to get a closer look, a piece of coral breaks off, startling the strange merman and making him swim away quickly. The noble just stood there, shocked at what he saw, and then he drops the coral in his hand, swimming slowly back to the market, stunned. The driver looks worried, putting a hand on his shoulder,

"Are you ok, my Majesty?'' Ethan shrugs off his hand, getting into the carriage, "We're leaving." The driver nods, quickly moving the carriage back to the castle as he looks out the window in thought. 'Who was that? He didn't look like any mer I've seen.', he thought as the sun set.

Humanity Extinguished
I had the same nightmare again. The loss of my first life continues to haunt me, but now it aches like an old wound. A more grievous injury to my psyche was the losses yet to come and the inevitable hellscape I would return to again and again. Reincarnation is my curse. The lives themselves weren't all that bad. Losing people you cared about hurt and all, but even that pain was preferable to experiencing the nothingness between lives for months at a time. It was enough to drive anyone mad. Now I have to focus on breaking this horrible cycle. Thankfully I have all the time in the world. Trace is an average man driven by extraordinary circumstances in an indifferent and cruel world. His reincarnations give him a few key advantages but also take a heavy toll on him. He lives in a world where magic is uncommon and underpowered compared to the limitless physical adaptations you can acquire by getting your hands a little bloody. This story is one of hardship and terrible lows, but also monumental achievements and grand heights. The main character has flaws. While some of these flaws will fade with time, others will worsen. Thank you for taking the time to read my synopsis. I plan to release 2-3 chapters a week.
