Chapter 5 ...
--The Distant Reaches of Space--
*Bing, Bing,Bing*
A red light flared green 3 times. Casting colored shadows in a dimly lit room. On the sides of the metallic grey walls were 6 chairs each and had 2 metal straps intersecting forming an X shape. And In these chairs sat 12 people. One such person was a girl with Raven black hair and a curvaceous figure, next to her sat a small man who was sweating profusely. He was surrounded by 10 very large, and very mean looking men. Each one had a scar visible somewhere on their body, whether it be their face or their arms none had escaped these grisly reminders of past battles. One was flipping a large dangerous looking knife thats blade was surrounded by a glowing green energy. The rest of the men either had their eyes closed or were looking through the windows on the opposite side of the room, staring into the far reaches of outer space.
(Sobek:The inside of the ship http://img06.deviantart.net/94d8/i/2010/309/c/5/pelican_ride_interior_by_seth270-d32767g.jpg)
As you may have assumed the girl is Grand General Ophelia Scarlet. She is sitting with her head down and her eyes closed, laying slack and letting the metal straps support her body weight.
*VRRrrRRrrrr*
The room rattled and bumped. The muffled sound of an engine could be heard throughout the cabin.
…..
……..
……….
“BING, We have arrived at the sector 15 area 23 marine corps bunker #35, I’m making my descent.”
The men were brought back into reality when the serene image of space was destroyed by a pair of large metal pincers.
*BOOM*
A loud boom rang out and rocked the ship, however nobody seemed to care as they unhooked the metal crossbars that had protected their chests during the voyage.
During the commotion the timid man who had been sitting next to Ophelia had escaped from the clutches of his seat and was standing next to a few of the larger men by a round metal door that was near the cockpit of the ship.
“DANSON!”
Danson’s body and facial expression stiffened as he heard his name called. A few of the other men looked at Danson with a pitying expression, it was as if they were saying “sucks dude, wouldn't want to be you.”
Danson contorted his face until he wore a somewhat calm expression.
“Yes lady Scarle-”
As he turned Danson saw Ophelia still strapped into her chair. He face was flushed red and she was staring off to the side with furrowed brows.
“Um…. Danson I seem to be trapped w-would you mind um…”
Ophelia turned her face to the ground, and she spoke in a quiet voice.

“Would you help me get out… please.”
Danson stared with utter shock and disbelief, his mouth was hanging open.
He heard one of the soldiers next to him snigger and quietly whisper.
“There she is Grand General Ophelia Scarlet [Queen of Clumsiness].”
Ophelia’s embarrassed expression was immediately replaced with an Iron gaze with pierced the souls of everyone in the ship.
“Hmmm kukuku I wonder who said that, It would appear that The baseless rumor is going around again.”
A dark oppressive aura seemed to emulate off of Ophelia sending a crushing pressure to everyone in the room. They all weakly nodded in agreement with her statement. While trying to stand under the auras power.
She nodded back to them and a vicious smile appeared on her face.
“Good.”
*CRACK*
Ophelia stood for her chair decimating the metal cross guards and sending chunks of metal flying around the ship.
Ophelia stood brushed off her military attire and looked up towards the soldiers who were still being attacked by a massive amount of pressure. A red glint appeared in her grey eyes.
“Oh and Larry next time please keep your comments to yourself.” All 11 people in the ship gulped silently.
She walked forward to the door and pressed a button on the walk.
*Cershhh*
The door slid upwards disappearing into the ceiling.
“Danson follow me!”
As Ophelia vanished around the corner the oppressive strength pushing everyone into the ground vanished. All of them dropped to the floor instantly gasping for breath.
Remembering her parting words, Danson scrambled off of the ground and ran out the door after the General.
“G-general where are we going?”
Ophelia’s stormy eyes looked straight ahead as she brusquely walked at a pace that was hard to keep up with, even a soldier of the swift footed scout regiment.
“We are going to see Grand General Nezzar and see to it that he has that failure of a general punished accordingly.”
“But M’lady isn't our final destination sector 4949?”
“This is a primary station outfitted with a dark ripper from this station we are capable of warping almost anywhere in the empire. This is the reason for sector 15’s tactical importance. Just outside of area 23 there something called a dark rift which is a thing that the emperor himself discovered if used correctly these rifts can be used to make transport to different areas or even other sectors entirely possible.
“I see, thank you M’lady.”
The duo walked through another large sliding door and came to a large open room. Thousands of people could be seen running around performing various tasks. There were soldiers running in formations, Pilots tending to aircrafts, and even a few janitors could be seen moping the floors.
Ophelia and Danson continued walking until they came to yet another door, this time the door was of a normal size and had a regular rectangular shape. The 2 men guarding the door saw Ophelia and nodded to her, letting them pass.

*Cshhhh*
The door opened revealing a large officer's cabin complete with comfortable looking furniture, a giant window with a beautiful view of outer space, and a long table which could hold many people. At the head of this table sat a man. He had shoulder length blond hair, crystal blue eyes, and soft feminine features. In his hand he elegantly held a goblet which was shaped like a dragon's hand, complete with greenish scales and obsidian black claws. The hand seemed to be gripping the glass cup that the handle was supporting.
The man's blue eyes were clouded over as he gazed into the stars, he held no emotions. For a minute Ophelia and Danson watched as the man sloshed the thick red liquid that was visible through the clear glass of the goblet and took a sip.
“You're getting rusty old man.”
Seemingly startled by Ophelia’s words a surprised expression appeared on his face. He swiveled his chair around towards the duo and when he saw them he smiled lightly.
“Ahh I'm sorry if I kept you waiting I just have many things on my mind to worry about.”
This man was Grand General Carl Neezar. So while his appearance was that of a young feminine man with attractive features Ophelia knew that this man was really over 600 years old and a veteren of nearly 150 campaigns. Neezar was known as the Vampire of Sagloon for his… unhealthy addiction to a certain red liquid. She knew this man was not one easily trifled with.
“So, what do you need from me, I hope you didn’t come here just to insult me.”
Neezar once again turned his chair towards the window and gazed out into the void.
“Hmpf we were informed that France Vilon’s soldiers were defeated in this area and we stopped by on our way to a new front to see that he receives a proper punishment.”
“Hmm yes Vilon that bastard has caused me more trouble than I have had in all my years as an officer. However, if that is all you’re here for I can assure you that the idiot who threw our soldiers at enemy fortifications like farmers buck barley has been dealt an … adequate punishment.”
“Hmm? Trouble it shouldn’t be that hard to defeat resistance force of this area even with a loss.”
Neezar sighed.
“Ahhh I guess that the report was not sent yet. Well you see because of that idiots blunder the resurgence managed to catch the main garrison and defensive line unaware, and seeing as our main force was comprised of money
loving mercenaries instead of loyal imperial soldiers the minute we began to get pushed back the mercenaries fled. This lead to Resurgence forces capturing one of our marine bases without much resistance essentially giving them the fire power of our entire fifth navy.”
“WHATT!”
Ophelia shouted with wide eyes.
“Never before has such an embarrassing event happened that a bunch of.. Of SAVAGES capturing an ENTIRE IMPERIAL FLEET!!!”
She slammed her hands down and her eyes glinted red with fury. Danson shivered and made himself seem as small and insignificant as possible.
Neezar just smiled and swiveled back towards the front of the room facing his two guests. “Yes yes never mind that, the problem is being taken care of as we speak.”
The other general lifted her brow.
“Oh? And what is this solution.”
Neezar reached out his hand and pressed a button on the arm of his chair.
*Pink*
A large holographic screen was displayed in the center of the conference table. The screen showed 2 monolithic pieces of metal floating above a celestial body. The 2 metal pieces were surrounded by many smaller metal pieces. As a small red dot appeared on the screen making one of the smaller dots disappear a large explosion rocked the room.
*BOOM*
Plates and glasses rattled as a large shockwave hit the marine satellite.
Danson flinched and covered his ears. Ophelia looked at the monitor with a displeased expression. Neezar seemed generally unaffected and continued to sip his beverage.
“The battle should be over soon Dreadnaught Gyilkos and Destroyer Teurastus will wipe them out in mere minutes.”
“Hmpf, Anyway Carl the reason why we are here is the Ripper, I need to get to sector 4950 Area 1.”
Carl Neezar’s eyes flashed for a second and he chuckled.
“Ahhh sent here by the emperor were you? Well you are in luck. I have had scouts on that planet for about 13 years now and its… interesting to say at least. It may be harder to conquer then you think.”
Ophelia scowled.
“To someone who couldn’t even defeat a group of primitives that may be right.”
“Well feel free to prove me wrong.” Neezar retorted in an uninterested tone.
Ophelia's face turned red with annoyance.
“Well if that's all that needs to be said i’ll be going.”
She stormed out of the room leaving a clueless Danson behind. After a few seconds he finally realized he was alone with Neezar. He let out a small squeak before quickly bowing to the general and hurrying out of the door.
Alone in the room Grand General Carl Neezar sat watching the monolithic Zenvia ships decimating a small rebel fleet. Suddenly as if a thought had just struck him a large grin appeared over his face.
“HAHAHA! 4950 she said? It must be one of that old man’s schemes, for now i’ll stay my hand. It's probably in my own best interests to be neutral for now.”

(Sobek: While writing this chapter I remembered and old anime called star blazers(1979) that I used to watch as a kid. I wanted to share it with u because I don’t think it's that well known outside Japan.
Here are links to episode 1 of original, and a few good clips from the remake.)

They'll need to depend on each other more than ever if they hope for their new home to have any kind of future. In case you missed it, here's book one. ATTENTION: This is soft sci-fi rather than hard sci-fi, hence why I chose that tag. For those of you unfamiliar with the distinction, here's what Wikipedia had to say. 1. It explores the "soft" sciences, and especially the social sciences (for example, anthropology, sociology, or psychology), rather than engineering or the "hard" sciences (for example, physics, astronomy, or chemistry). 2. It is not scientifically accurate or plausible; the opposite of hard science fiction. Soft science fiction of either type is often more concerned with character and speculative societies, rather than speculative science or engineering. The term first appeared in the late 1970s and is attributed to Australian literary scholar Peter Nicholls.
