《Just For Fun》Chapter 2: Questions

Nebel appears in a completely white space… there is no hint of a light source and yet he can see… there isn’t any darkness either but at the same time he can see all that there is in that space.
In front of him is a small pedestal with a single piece of paper laid on top the pedestal is carved with what appears to be people all of which are talking. Writing on the papers is only one short paragraph. “Ask and you shall receive. Question and you shall learn.”
Nebel looks around himself “Where is the light coming from?”
Around him balls appear in the air, they are brilliant and Nebel looks away from them and notices that his shadow has become visible as well.
“I get it, I have to ask to learn and learn to be able to acknowledge!” Nebel looks at the whiteness under his feet and surrounding him. “It’s impossible to find a place like this. What is the floor and walls like?”
Under him the whiteness turns into a sleek marble floor and walls lift out of the ground blocking out the endless scenery around him. Like the floor the walls are marble. Nebel looks around at the newly visible walls and notices a few things.
“Those light sources are surely from something, how do the lights look?”
“The sky can’t just end in whiteness, what color is the sky?”
“Where are the people in this world?”
The next moment the balls of light are incased in standing braziers, a black night sky is far above him and many people in lab coats surround him.
“Awareness has reached 0.02%” One of the people says looking at something Nebel can’t perceive.
“Can he see us?” Another person says looking in Nebel’s direction.
“If you can see us, ask us anything.” The second person continues without confirmation.

“I can hear you. What are you looking at?” Nebel says and points at the first man.
In front of the man appears a computer screen floating in mid air.
“Ahh, so computers exist in this world?”

Around him about six more computer screens appear floating eerily in the air and seven sets of computer hardware appear in relative to the screens also floating.
“Yes keep asking about your observations, quickly now there isn’t much time.” The second man says.
“What is holding up the computers? How does the furniture look?”
Appearing as if from thin air desks are now under the computers, bookshelves oddly empty line some of the walls, chairs empty and forgotten are behind nearly everyone and a few tables are scattered about.
“Where are the stars?” Stars appear in the night sky.
“Where are the books? Paper? And writing instruments?” All three appear scattered on the tables and lining the bookshelves.
“Is this outside? Where are the sounds of the night and the wind?” A slight breeze picks up and the sound of crickets fills the night.
Nebel spends a few more minutes asking questions based on his observations it was quite tiring but slowly the surroundings took shape and the details filled out.
The people were split into men and women, the androgynous voices took on their gender pitch and personal quality, each person acquired their own features and expressions and they were now obviously hard at work.
Nebel was at the center of some sort of machine, under him was a platform with four pillars surround him and above him was a ceiling made out of a pattern just like the one displayed in the platform beneath him.
Around him the people were hard at work in a make shift laboratory they were checking computer screens and comparing them to displays floating above their arms.
“He’s stable at 1%, shut it down.” The first person says. Who was a woman as was now revealed to Nebel.
The many people around Nebel visible relax and three small bars that were surrounding Nebel retract letting him step out of the machine in the direction of the second person an eccentric looking man.
“Welcome to our world.” The man says while spreading his arms and grinning. “You are only the eleventh one to fully stabilize congrats you must have quite the brain in that head to get ahead of so many of your peers.”
The man lets Nebel step out beside him “You’re also the first one we’ve managed to pull in. I’m sure you have many questions, ask away, it’s your only way to become part of this world.”

Nebel looks around at all the smiling faces “Why am I here?”
The eccentric man who seems to be their leader or spokes person answers “Well, we have a lot of enemies, a low population and no warriors so we thought to get some back up.”
Nebel looks at the grin on the man’s face “Have you given any thought to the people you are calling?”
The man laughs “Don’t worry you aren’t truly part of this world.” He smiles widely and points at Nebel “You can leave any time you just have to say “THIAF” and then I wish to leave and you disappear without a trace. You’ll return to your world in a blink.”
“What if I want to go between both?” Nebel ponders out loud.
“Oh, that’s the best part you are now able to freely come back at any time without all this fuss. This was all just to make you see this world. You’re now a man of two worlds.”
The man like an idiot is making a peace sign while he says this.
Nebel asks the man “Why is my status window so empty?”
The man frowns “What’s missing exactly?”
Nebel thinks what if this man can’t tell him being an NPC and all, but like everything else in this world has to be asked he decides to go for it.
“Where’s the stats? Hp,mp,strength, vitality, intelligence all of that?”
The man roars out laughing, feeling a little insulted Nebel watches the man lose his balance and start laughing on the floor. After a bit the man recovers and gets to his feet, for a while the rest of the scientist had been looking away thoroughly embarrassed.
“Do you have those in your world?” the man asks.
“Well… no but I thought I should ask.” Nebel scratches his chin embarrassed by his own silly question.
The man scratches his chin “Tell you what we actually have something similar, it’s in our displays. By the way can you see your status now?”
Nebel punches the air and tries to pull out his status but nothing happens.
“Is that how you activate the displays in your world? How strange.” the man asks before saying to the woman beside them. “Willow, this is why I love meeting aliens. It’s always so new.”
The woman Willow hands over a bracelet to Nebel “Put this on then flick your wrist while swiping down.”
Nebel complies and after finishing the swipe sees a glowing screen floating in front of him, just like everyone else’s.
Status WindowName:NebelAlignment:NoneLevel:1Age:22Race:HumanGender:MaleTitlesNoneFame:0Infamy:0-Secrets Revealed:1%Physical Condition:100%Mental Condition:100%Physical Status:Normal
“Ah, well at least there’s something there now.” Nebel thinks aloud.
“Well now you need to be informed of a few thing before we let you free in this world.” The man states “Anyone can use “magic” in this world.”
The man cringes two peace sighs when he says magic. “Physically everyone is weak but if they focus just right anyone is a titan with unimaginable strength, the more they focus the more strength.” The man makes a fist and yells “Willpower baby!”
the man returns to his easy smile “Right now you haven’t been rated so you can’t see your rated power. So you need to train yourself in one of our many facilities but only the first one of each area is free so choose wisely. Then get yourself rated and go out there.”
The man makes a pose of pointing in the distance “Also there are mutants roaming our world so we will only let you leave with a rating of at least 1.”
Nebel takes it all in “So what facilities are there?”
“Well in the library there is a facility for the control of each of the elements and vectors. In the grounds there are facilities for all the basic weapons known to man, by the way I wouldn’t suggest the gun most strong mutants can’t be pierced by a bullet or regenerate to quickly for them unless you have a crazy amount of focus. And in the arena we have a facility for most athletic abilities from running to mountain climbing.”
As he’s saying these things in the distance Nebel sees many things appear, everything from highly lit buildings to dark towering mountain peaks appear before his eyes.
