《Just For Fun》Chapter 13: mayors and traps! (and no i refuse to name it "its a trap!")

The council of twenty were very worried… well really the council of three since only three human cities were still in existence, but the three cities were now heavily over populated and their representatives were still on the council and so the three cities with twenty representatives were discussing their options.
The northern most city, had tripled in size due to the influx of refugees with nowhere to go and had built more housing and basic water treatment system constructed to accommodate the influx but the food sources were slowly dwindling and the fusion reactors situated in the center of the main area of the city were already at their limit, soon the populace will have to ration electricity so the water treatment system can continue functioning at optimal output.
The south western city had upgraded its food production to accommodate the shortages but it had already reached its maximum potential due to the limit of land available and the third city which was the only one with full weapon production facilities had managed to fortify the path north of its self by crushing the pass and loading it full of mines, the obvious problem with this was they were forced to give up a lot of land… including their last external mining operation. All they had left was the below the city ones and the total recycling systems that were at max production but only outputting twenty percent of optimal necessary material.
And if all of this wasn’t bad enough the north western border had been breached and the farm lands between the forest and the pass had been raised by orcs, while the mining area between the mountains had been overrun by goblins. Luckily the two groups were now at war which gave the council… well actually their scientists the time to fix the error in the summoning system and perform the third summoning.
It had already shown itself to be a resounding success the actual number of goblin and orc deaths was of yet unconfirmed but the amount of bounties brought in had exceeded twenty thousand. Of course these were just the weakest members of the two groups dying but their advance had been halted and the pressure that had been building on the army of volunteers defending the northeastern border had lessened considerably thanks to direct alien assistance and militia from the west being able to relocate once again thanks to the aliens.
The aliens weren’t all good though along with increased production necessities of electricity, water, weapons and the redirection of resources to keep them happy, theft, destruction of property and even murder rates had skyrocketed… from none to over a thousand reports a day!!! Thankfully they were still within the projected amount but if nothing changed… the three cities had about six months left… tops.

After a few minutes Mitchell came back with Lucas in tow, she was only carrying the hatchet while Lucas was carrying a mighty stack of wood in his arms, on a stack carrier on his back that seemed to have been made out of vines and even balance over his shoulders on both of the other piles!

Nebel smiles “Hey Lucas… next time don’t try to break your back, ok?”
Lucas dumps the two piles only held by him onto the ground and starts undoing the third as he talks in a mono tone. “I wasn’t sure which type of wood you required so I brought twenty sticks a meter long each, of each type of wood found in this forest.”
Nebel laughs a bit “Ok my bad! I should have told you we only needed twenty of any type of wood. Now Mitchell, Lucas can you please use this thread, daggers and that wood to make spears? It would be best if something stabbed by the spears could slide straight down.”
“It will be done in haste.” Lucas says.
“Anything for you.” Mitchell says.
The duo sits down and starts working like an assembly line, well at least a strange semi circular one…
Mitchell grabs each knife and removes the handle before piling them to her left at her right she had made a pile of sixty knives when she started but the pile soon started dwindling in size, While she was doing that Lucas was using a large knife to slice the pieces of wood that he had collected, he made a notch in each piece of wood to fit the knives into as he also slimmed down each piece to make it easier for something to slide down on. After they both finished their jobs, they each took up knives, poles and string and started fastening the knives onto the poles and placing the finished product on Mitchell’s right where the materials had been before.

At the time that they were making the spears Nebel was busy making his own gear. And actually he had already finished the first one. For him it was a simple flat stone that with a little observation showed some remarkable traits but with a little help from Mitchell he opened a display and showed off his creation.
Force stoneEffect:Vector EmissionPower Source:SolarActivation:Scarred side facing upVector DirectionWest
This stone along with a second type was the main part of his plan soon they would be ready but first he was going to be working for quite a while…
After a few hours Nebel was forced to stop, his mental condition stat had plummeted with each stone he had made by five percent a stone, and so he had limited himself to thirty percent remaining, not because he wanted to but because his vision had blurred and he had felt sick to his stomach when he did. But luckily it seemed like he had enough stones made to do the job. Mitchell and Lucas had already finished their job and were waiting for well whatever Nebel wanted… so Nebel sent Mitchell to watch the mountain path while Lucas carried their gear over.
“But don’t go up the path!”
Nebel laid himself down on a patch of grass and waited until the blurred vision and nausea to go away, after about thirty minutes his mental condition had only risen five percent but the illnesses had gone away and if the plan all went well they wouldn’t even need his vectors. Nebel got to his feet and walked the five minute walk to the mountain path, there Mitchell and Lucas were waiting for him with the gear ready and smiles on their faces.

“The goblins seem to have left a few hours ago and we haven’t gone up the path just as you ordered.”Mitchell said to Nebel.
“Good, I’m pretty sure they have an enchantment there to alert them to intruders. Now this part has to be done before they can come.” Nebel hands them to small trowel like stones he had found and attached two of the dagger handles to.
“Place the spears in the ground at the bottom of the first turns cliff, while I place the stones.”
The two Nebel worshipers run off to do their idols bidding and Nebel runs up the path with an arm full of rocks that needed careful placing. All three of them went swiftly to work but had only placed half of the prepared weaponry before they heard the goblins coming. “Stomp stomp stomp!” the trio heard the goblins marching and started running to their prearranged hiding spot at the base of the cliff. Just as Nebel was about to dive into the hiding spot he remembered the final piece of the plan and placed two stones scar up in the center of the spears.
The goblin were now visible, the ones at the front were keeping their eyes ahead looking for the intruders while the ones behind were just keeping up. As the first goblins reached the turn Nebel pulled a small piece of thread he had left dangling down the cliff and at the top of the cliff all the way at the second turn a line flat stone were knocked from a vertical position into a horizontal one when a stick that had been placed behind them was pulled forwards.
The effect was instantaneous, the goblins that were marching down the path all of a sudden had a hundred kilos of force applied to their backs, the already over loaded goblins at the front were brought to their knees from the initial thrust but it was the wave of goblins from the second line that spelt their doom. The goblins had been hurrying along to keep up with the heavier but stronger and faster goblins in front and so lost their balance and started rolling down the hill. As they hit the goblins at the front of the line Nebel yells “STRIKE!” while imagining flesh colored bowling balls hitting metal pins.
Nebel, Mitchell and Lucas jump out from hiding and stand waiting patiently for their turn at the base of the cliff, sadly all they got to do was clean up after Nebel’s trap. Because it was done with the poor goblin’s with just a roll down a path and a thirty foot fall into spears… when the goblins fell off of the cliff they rapidly accelerated until they hit the spears at speeds way exceeding goblin terminal velocity as it turned out… the last stones Nebel had placed were a little helping hand to gravity…. They nearly doubled the goblins weight as it turned out the spears were only helpful for the goblins that got knocked to the sides of the increased gravity zone. The spears in the middle were pretty much wiped out by the first ones that fell…
Afterwards Nebel decided that that much gravity wasn’t necessary… this epiphany was brought to you by “Disgusting mess.”, all three of them were feeling sick while they walked around the pile of gore pulling out all the metal, leather, trinkets and intact right ears they could find…
His plan was going to work… Nebel just hoped they could avoid anymore unnecessary nightmares during the rest of it…

They trio reset the trap, just in case, with great difficulty… Nebel had forgotten about how they were supposed to walk up the path afterwards… and continued on their way up the path. Only a few minutes passed before they were attacked by a second group of goblins and Nebel made his cousins retreat.
The trap was sprung, this time all of the goblins were running and went flying immediately down the trail, the rolled and yelled, fell off the cliff and went splat but Nebel had halved the additional gravity and a few of them survived the fall only to be sliced and hacked to pieces by Nebel and Lucas. The trio continued heading up the path but kept meeting up with patrols which they slaughtered with the trap. The first time the sprung the trap they all gained a level but now only Mitchell and Lucas were gaining any experience, even if it was heavily reduced. Nebels experience hadn’t gone up at all or so it seemed since he hadn’t gained any levels while the siblings had reported three levels gained.
“Well whatever it doesn’t matter, we’re getting rich anyhow.” Nebel said to himself out loud.
The trio had gather a good three hundred right ears, close to a hundred sets of goblin metal armor, weapons to go with the ears and a lot of scrap metal from the first trap…
“Hey guys, lets head back to town and get some business done.”
“What about the trap.” Mitchell asks him.
“We’ll leave it on. It should be fine.” Nebel had tweaked the trap and now every goblin was dead after the fall but they hadn’t started rupturing from the fall.
Nebel places his hand on Mitchell’s shoulder to reassure her. “It will be fine come o… hey… What’s this lump on your neck?”
Mitchell pulls away from him and goes scarlet. “Umm nothing, Nebel just a little… so …ing for… if y…”
She trails off and Nebel decides to drop it, it was obviously something she didn’t want to talk about…
