《Just For Fun》Chapter 38: Unconventional Teaching Methods

“Man this is so boring...!” one player says walking alongside the column of soldiers.
“You said it man...” another one says “How about we go on ahead?”
“Yeah sure lets!” the first one replies...
Maria watches them run off towards the head of the column while she sits comfortably on the front of one of the supply trucks together with Maya.
“So Nebel is off this way?” Maya asks her for the thousandth time since they left the city
“No he isn’t I just lied to you.” She smiles and looks over at Maya’s angry face “It doesn’t matter anyway you don’t have enough time to complete your plan before you change again.”
“I still could have had my fun!” Maya shouts and pouting she jumps off of the truck and runs back towards the city.
Watching her go Maria sighs... “Good, there’s only a few more days until THAT one...” she thinks before looking towards the front of the column which was actually only a few hours away from their destination... well for a single person or a small group anyway for this army it was still going to be a half day or so...
“Might as well catch some Zs...” Maria mutters as she closes her eyes and dozes off...

Synthia was reading in the academy library, earlier that day she had undertaken a material manipulation class and now she was diligently reading about the magic’s in and outs to increase her understanding and efficiency with it. Her hair done up in a bunch at the back of her head, dressed in a impeccable yet feminine suit, with a short skirt reaching to just above her knees, stockings covering her skin below that and dress shoes with only a slight heel, Synthia would never be recognised as the incorrigible slut she usually was. Instead anyone would only be able to see her as a diligently studious young woman with perfect upbringing, dress sense and class...
Reading a certain passage Synthia flinches, moving for the first time in over ten minutes other than her eyes behind her wire frame glasses. Reading the sentence again... and again... Synthia’s Perfectionist image starts to crack as drool starts to escape the side of her mouth as she pants in excitement.
The main metal extraction area of the three cities is known as a particularly good area for the study and training of the use of fire, material and heated material magic, thanks entirely to its volcanic state.
Many a person has also enjoyed the magnificent view awarded to those that climb to the top of the mountain range both in the great vista of the three cities as well as the crater of the active volcano itself.
Barely able to contain her excitement at this news, Synthia starts muttering “Volcano, Volcano, Volcano, Volcano...” as she calmly cleans up her table, placing the books back on the proper shelves before heading towards the entrance.
As she passes out the front door of the building the excite builds to a bursting point and she screams it out to the sky! “ACTIVE VOLCANO!!!!” Tearing the side of her skirt and kicking off her dress shoes, Synthia crushes her glasses when she tries to put them away, throws her jacket and tie to one side and puts on a pair of runners in a flash.

Running down the path in just a torn skirt, a partway undone blouse and her runners over stockings, She starts laughing and starts singing a bastardized version of the wizard of oz’s were off to see the wizard.
“We’re off to see the fire, the wonderful pool of lava....!”
Along the way she passes Rosa, who gapes at her, Nebel who shakes his head at the sight and Marcella the director who laughs at the site...

Since it was the weekend, Nebel and his family leave the game for only an hour or so to nourish their bodies with real food, even if their beds were stocked with packs of liquid filled with all that a human body needs to live, they were both expensive and un-filling so they always made a habit of getting real meals.
After cooking up a meal and forcing Bö to take a shower, Nebel brings up the leader boards to find out something that was bothering him this whole time about CAIFELIT, noticing that there were over a hundred separate leader boards for every category imaginable all the way down to most fish eaten, Nebel was reassured of what he had already deduced.
The game was being hosted on an amazing amount of servers, one per main city of the immortals garden in fact. The surrounding areas seemed to be included in these but otherwise there was total player separation between cities.
“I wonder why... ” Nebel thinks as he returns to his bed and the game.

Nebel was furious! Instead of just teaching him how to mix magic correctly, they were doing some sort of stupid game of tag...
“Hey Nebel I bet you’ll still be trying to catch me by mid night!” Steven yells at him from most of the way to the other side of the maze. “Come on try something new!”
Nebel focuses on the whole maze and starts imagining a series of vectors ranging all over it, jumping into one vector he flies towards the area where Steven is standing on a thin wall, sticking his tongue out at him.
Laughing at Nebel’s attempt, Steven steps backwards and is whisked away from Nebel by one of his own vectors “Hmm, he fell for it!” Nebel thinks as the vectors reveal themselves to be curved and convergent.
Steven laughs while flying through the air and gathers water around himself; the water separates into lines, hardens and flies towards Nebel ahead of Steven. Nebel changes the vectors course to deflect them and notices that Steven had already bailed when he shot them.
“We have to break your dependency on Vectors Nebel!” Steven shouts “Mix it up a little! That was as pathetic as you dainty little jumps earlier!”
Nebel gathers the material of the walls and solidifying them high up behind Steven he dashes towards him hoping to trap the professor without him noticing.
“Nice try Nebel!” Steven says as he slides right through the wall just before Nebel reaches him without even a twitch. “Try more simultaneous, less assistance!”

For another hour Nebel chases after Steven, Heating the walls and air...fail, deforming the walls to ruin his footing and blocking him... fail, making a few permanent spells and laying them out as traps... fail...
Nebel gets truly pissed off and grabs at the air to either side of his view of Steven; bringing his hands together in claws he imagines hot, liquid stone searing flesh and filling lungs. Steven smiling widely disappears as the red hot claws made out of the walls close around him sealing the area around him completely.
Nebel jumps from wall to wall and arrives at the dome he had made and waits for a moment before the stone cracks and shatters apart, focusing on the movement and imagining it turning around going back inwards and the stone once more heating up...
The shrapnel follows his rage filled thoughts and fly right back inwards with Nebel being pulled in as well; Nebel reaches out his hand while the largest chunks in front of him shield him from Steven’s view.
Pushing his hand through the pieces of stone he burns his arm but feels his hand rest on a sleeve covered arm. The shrapnel stops in its tracks...
“Your it!” Nebel says and pushes the floating pieces of stone out of the way to reveal... a statue with clothes? A fist hits him in the stomach and he flies a few meters before hitting a wall.
“Pretty damn good there Nebel!” Steven says standing on one of the broken walls Nebel took the claws from. “You forced me to use one of my trump cards, boy!”
Steven laughs and points at the statue. “For the sake of your lesson let’s call that me and say you did it! Well you did learn to mix magic fairly well at the least!”
The man stops laughing when Nebel glares at him having just recovered from the sucker punch. “Oh scary!” he says and waves once before disappearing in front of Nebel’s eyes “Go get some practice!”
Nebel takes a while to calm down ... Sitting on one of the few walls that hadn’t been destroyed he looks over the ruins of the maze... “How much did this lesson cost the academy!?” he asks himself out loud once he does...
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
Having decided to get the hell out of there before Marcella noticed what had happened, Nebel heads to the library to get himself an alibi...
Meeting Rosa at the door he takes her to one side “Hey Rosa can you do me a solid? I need to have an alibi.”
“Sure, ok I’m gammeeee!” Rosa says smiling and looking around “When till when dong what!?”
Nebel stares at her for a moment “Are you sure? Don’t you want to know what I did?”
“No no, it’s all good.” She replies waving her hands “So can I say you were doing me in the bathroom?” she asks going scarlet.
“What? No, just say my class lasted a little longer than expected.” Nebel says also going red... you know... since she did...
Rosa seems disappointed “Well ok...”
“So can we have my class now?” Nebel asks her
She perks back up “Yes! Let’s!”
Sitting down on a stool, she motions for Nebel to sit as well. “Let’s see now...” she mutters “I’m to teach you about cold magic right?”
Nebel sits down before answering “Yes that’s right!” he makes certain he is comfortable as to be as quiet as possible for her lecture.
Rosa opens her book and flips to a page, running her finger down it she seems to find what she’s looking for about half way down.
“Umphh, ummmm” she clears her throat “Cold! Is the absence of Heat, so cold magic is the removal of heat and works in exactly the same yet opposite manner.”
Rosa closes her book and smiles at him “That’s about it!”
Nebel looks at her eyes to see if she’s serious... she is “Really is that all?”
Rosa puts away her book into her purse and keeps smiling “Pretty much... I already taught you how Heat magic works, and cold magic is the exact opposite, just stop the rubbing of the particles, stop the undirected transfer of energy and the heat is just gone. There are a few methods, like directing it in a vector or sapping its power for latter use but most people just counter it by forcing it to stop with their magic.”
Nebel sighs “I’m not sure how I can make anyone believe that this lesson could possibly take hours...” he says as he freezes a cup of water left on the table to try it out.
“That’s why I suggested the other thing...” she says going red once more. “If you want we can go to my office and...”
Nebel had already stood up and didn’t really hear the last part since he moved his chair at that moment. Giving her a peck on the cheek he makes to leave “Well ok... thanks for the class, Rosa! See yeah later!”
Rosa blushes harder from his goodbye peck and buries herself in some paperwork she had in her bag to hide it...
I hope you like the mini battle between teacher and student! the first magic fight! i will have more pvp later on but for now there has only been two of those parts with one being lucca just defending and this one being training.
