《Worldbreaking》Chapter 13 - The Demonbane

A lone immortal was soaring through the skies. At a glance, he had an appearance that made one think that he was extremely vile and evil, having sharp fox-like eyes. He looked thin and lethe, with slick-backed dark hair. His appearance was reminiscent to that of a cunning snake’s. He was an immortal infamous for his moniker “The Demonbane.” It was said the wherever he went, all demons would mysteriously vanish within moments.
Alistair the Demonbane.
Alistair was among the last to leave his guild’s meeting, and was currently tailing a figure, another immortal. The person he was pursuing had a long ponytail, wore gentlemanly attire and appeared elegant, like a butler. The person being pursued abruptly paused in mid-air.
They both stood at a distance from one another, floating in the air.
“Why have you followed me, Alistair?” Julius questioned while turning around to face him.
“I’ve decided that you’ll be my first target,” Alistair replied. He flicked his wrist, making an ordinary-looking sword appear, and said, “Everyone in Paragon are monsters in human skin, slaughtering innocents.”
“A traitor?” Julius smiled, seemingly amused by the prospect.
Silence. The air was filled with an extremely fragile tension that could be distinctly felt, and broken at any moment.
The two gave off visible colorful auras that clashed with one another’s, Julius’ being blue, and Alistair’s being a bright white. The clashing auras made the air tremble, and created ripples of water that turned into waves in the sea below the two immortals. The violent tremors in the air caused all the nearby birds and animals to flee in terror.
Both auras suddenly retracted, and condensed back into the both of them.
“In the name of Paragon, I will purge the world of all vermin! Worldbreaking technique: Grand Aqua Flame!”
“In the name of Alistair, I will purge the world of all Paragon! Worldbreaking technique: Illusion Sword!”
Julius and Alistair spoke and acted simultaneously.
Julius brought both of his hands together in front of him, forming a clear stream of liquid that slowly began to reveal the figure of a serpent. Its very existence was a contradiction, being a liquid that surpassed heat to the point that it should have evaporated itself. Melded magic of opposing elements, signifying the pinnacle of elemental mastery.

Alistair’s sword left his hand to float in the air, splitting apart and replicating itself several times. Soon, there were twenty of the very same swords in the air, forming a sphere that revolved and pointed toward Julius.
The attacks were both launched at the same time.
A large serpent made of liquid headed towards Alistair, and ten swords headed towards Julius, while the other ten were launched at the serpent.
The ten swords infused with mana slowly melted as they approached the serpent, but still managed to each pierce themselves into the serpent’s body in their melted states, causing the liquid serpent to disperse.
The other ten swords that were aimed at Julius each stopped a few feet away from him, as if they were being held back by an invisible force.
Julius chuckled, and all ten swords were blown away by a huge gust of wind, each of them losing power and falling down into the sea below. He didn’t even have to do anything. This was due to a passive ability he possessed. The Worldbreaking technique: Eternal Gale Barrier Sylphia. As long as he still possessed mana, all projectiles below a certain threshold of power would be unconsciously blocked by a force of wind.
Neither immortals had yet moved from their initial positions. Seeing the failed attack and barrier of wind, Alistair furrowed his brows, and flicked his wrist again to take out another weapon.
The weapon possessed a brilliant white lustre, the light it gave off was so bright, yet still didn’t bother the eyes in the slightest. Even Julius was taken aback after looking at the weapon.
“That’s… Excalibur,” seeing the sword, Julius didn’t dare be careless and raised his alertness level to the max.
The legendary holy artifact sword, Excalibur. It was made entirely of blessed mithril, giving it a pure white appearance that reflected all light. Artifacts were special existences that possessed wills. Every artifact had special abilities that could only be utilized depending on their level of approval of their wielders. Excalibur in particular was a widely-known legendary artifact with a deep history, the sword was dubbed, “The Unbreakable Holy Sword,” in legends.

Excalibur left Alistair’s hands and shot towards Julius. The sword flew so fast that it’d have looked like a white flash of light to the eyes’ of those below the level of immortals.
Julius frowned, even someone dense could see that he didn’t take Excalibur lightly. He flew loops in the air while constantly swaying and dodging the sword. Excalibur tailed Julius in the air and flashed several times at blinding speeds, shredding his clothes and cutting through his skin, riddling his body with shallow cuts. The sword completely ignored and clearly had enough power to break through his Eternal Gale Barrier.
While Julius was hastily avoiding the sword, Alistair was moving his hand like he was a conductor to an orchestra. Wherever his hand moved, Excalibur would follow. Suddenly, Alistair’s hand movements stopped. He only motioned upwards with a single hand. The sword stopped pursuing Julius and flew higher into the clear-blue sky, immediately pointing downwards.
The sword stood above all, appearing incredibly magnanimous. It looked like it was about to give judgment to all the livings beings beneath it.
“Worldbreaking technique: Illusion Sword!” Alistair shouted.
The single legendary holy sword split apart and soon became ten, then a hundred, a thousand, ten-thousand, one-hundred thousand, a million, and yet it still kept increasing faster than even an immortal could react.
There was a strange phenomenon happening in the area where they fought. The once clear-blue sky was completely white. No trace of blueness in the sky could be seen within miles. The sky was covered in a layer of radiant white. If you looked closely, you’d be able to see that the entire sky was being covered with millions of Excaliburs, a legendary sword. It was supposed to be a one-of-a-kind sword that had one in existence. Currently, there were millions of them.
“Worldbreaking technique: Apocalypse Edge,” Alistair said. At that moment, the millions of Excaliburs rained down. They came crashing down and headed towards Julius. Waves upon waves of swords. The millions of swords produced countless flashes of light, dyeing the world in their whiteness.
Even if Julius wanted to dodge this time, there would be no space for him to dodge to. His figure was soon covered by the onslaught of Excaliburs. The millions of swords in the sky spanned for miles, and there was simply no room. Waves of swords seemed to keep raining down, and yet there was still a layer of white that covered the sky.
“Farewell, Julius…” Alistair said to his former comrade.
“Shatter, Worldbreaking technique: Heavenly Bladestorm,” he muttered. Cracks began appearing on each of the millions of Excaliburs, shattering each of them into sharp blade fragments. The fragments rotated and twisted wildly in the air, forming a violent maelstrom, a hurricane of blades from a legendary sword. A vortex of blades made of blessed mithril.
One of the abilities of the legendary holy sword Excalibur was that it was an unbreakable sword. It could only be broken apart at will, and could always reform itself back into a sword.
Alistair floated in the air within a small pocket of space, blade shards rapidly orbiting and surrounding him. This was the only pocket of space that was free of blade fragments in the vicinity for miles. Across from him, Julius was being utterly ripped apart, buffeted and directly hit with fragments of Excalibur.
“Three more members of Paragon to go,” Alistair said underneath his breath, when the sound of laughter rang out.
The laughter came from within the tornado of blades.
