Chapter 8

After formulating something that might look like a plan in the right light, we go in guns blazing. Ghost leaps in and uses intimidate on all the ents, causing them to attack her and getting injured on her fur causing her to seem like even more of a threat. After making sure that everything was going to plan I start attacking the ent elder.

"campfire" jack

an elder burst into flames and then literally explodes, due to the excess of sap in the wood I think.

"that... is too much of a weakness" jack

after quickly dealing with the rest of the ent elders I looked around to get an idea of the surviving ents.

I notice Philip who is struggling against an ent wife and rush over and use butcher on one of the branches that was about to hit him, cutting it off.

"thanks for the assist" Philip

"no problem" jack

Philip gets smacked in the face by one of the ents larger branches with an audible *snap*.

"damn it broke my nose" Philip

he quickly pulls out one of his potions and drinks it, miraculously setting his nose right.

"try breaking the branches off" jack

Philip nods as I sneak around to the back using invisibility and assassinate the already weakened tree.

I then continue to sneak around to the back of the leader and use assassinate.

how much health does this guy have even if I failed the assassination that alone would have been enough to kill the hobgoblin leader.

as I was thinking that the leader turns around and glares at me. I quickly use butcher cutting 3 branches off, immediately after he attacked me with all of his branches. I manage to dodge to the right and use butcher on one of them, only to be hit by a stray branch.

'damn that hurt.' jack

I pull out one of my potions and drink up. I smile because it tastes like my favorite food, fresh bread.

as I dodge another barrage I manage to cut off a couple more branches. it continued like this for a while, with me dodging and cutting branches off and him attacking and trying to limit my movement. once he managed to hit me with a branch and I drank my last potion. after a while I managed to get close enough to stab him in the eye.

*laughs*

I go around behind him and use assassinate, killing him instantly.

*laughs* "that was fun" jack

I look around and see what remains of the ents.

Philip is taking on the wife on his own and the others are dealing with the warrior. I rush over to help Philip when he takes out his last healing potion and tries to drink it. however when he tries the ent spears the potion shattering the glass and piercing through his chest. I run at the wife and assassinate it successfully.

I ignore the system as everyone finishes up with the reaming warrior and rushes over to us.

"do you resent me?" jack

*coughs* "no, it was my own decision to fight, not yours" Philip

*crying*"brother" Joe

"become strong Joe, you won't be able to rely on me"*coughs*"anymore. and don't hate these people, it was our own decision to fight with them."

"I will" *crying* "I will become the strongest and I will live through this" Joe

"that’s my brother" Philip

as Philip lay dying there was nothing we could do as we had all used up all of our healing potions. for about an hour after we all just stood there in silence. this was terrifying, it was the first time I had seen someone die, and it could happen at any minute to any of us. during this time I got 30 skill points and nimble gloves. I think the system is trying to turn me into an assassin

after a while I came back to my senses and asked

"so what are you planning on doing now?" jack

startled Joe replied

"wh-what do you mean?" Joe

"us three are going to continue to fight our way out of here" jack

"that’s right" Johanna

"then I’ll come with you" Joe

"are you sure?" jack

"my brother wanted me to become strong in this new world, the best chance for that is with you guys." Joe

"well said" Johanna

"alright let’s get moving, everyone gather up as much wood as you can I’ll go ahead and get rid of any monsters on the way. ghost, Johanna, show him the way back to base" jack

'you're just trying to get out of work aren’t you?' ghost

I laugh through my nose but no one else questions my motives as none of them could hear ghost.

'not that I care.’ ghost

we all get back to base without incident and I cook some of the preserved orc.

after cooking and eating some orc I decide to build a barricade in the front of the cave out of wood. I build it in a way that it can easily be moved from the inside.

after I finished building the barricade I started carving wood with one of knives we got from the hobgoblins.

after a couple hours I started to get tiered so I walked over to my usual sleeping spot and laid down, ghost comes up to me as I am falling asleep.
