《This Game We Call Life》chapter 18: brainwashing

Chapter 18
As we walk we come across some lesser monsters, mostly goblins. I had a lot of free time so I started to think, which if you ask Johanna is extremely dangerous. To quote "if you see jack thinking run for your life, because you might not have it in a couple minutes", harsh. Anyway, I think about applications for my skills, mostly telepathy. When we take a break to rest I go into a nearby abandoned house to use the continently clean toilet, when I start to head back to the living room when I see, or rather smell, a goblin.
'Perfect, I needed a test subject' jack
I touch my mind to its using telepathy. The goblin has a surprisingly simple mind, only thinking the word mate over and over with the occasional feed mixed in.
'Mate, mate, mate, mate, feed, mate, mate, mate.' goblin
I try to mask the sound of my thoughts and start the experiment.
'Feed, feed, feed, feed' jack
I reputedly sent the word feed to the goblin until something interesting started to happen.
'Mate, mate, feed, mate, mate, feed' goblin
He was thinking feed more often now. I continue doing this until he only thought about eating, it took about 15 minutes.

'now let’s test something else' jack
I send pain to him, pure, unadultered, and pain. I notice that my mp is going down slightly, about one point every 5 seconds.
magic skill obtained: psychological magic

for some reason I don't hear any screaming, normally with that amount of pain you would at least scream a little. I go into the other room to check up on my test subject. I find him in the kitchen in front of an open refrigerator, dead. he died of a heart attack the instant the pain hit him. I find a necklace on his chest, likely a drop. when I use observe on it I see something pretty interesting.
necklace of old man the glutton. this necklace was owned by an old goblin, apparently he obtained the title glutton 5 minutes before being killed by a mysterious heart attack. enchant able
I walk back to the living room with a big grin plastered on my face.
"what took you so long?" jacobe
"brainwashing a goblin" jack
he seems to think about that for a couple seconds, likely trying to figure out if I’m talking in code.
"what do you mean by that?" jacobe
"exactly what I said" jack
"ok, now that everyone’s ready, let’s head out. only an hour till lunch and still 3 mile to cover" Joe
the rest of the journey to Joe’s house was uneventful, sure we came across a couple low level creatures, mostly monster class, but that was it. when we got to the twins house it was locked, luckily sally had a key. inside it was pretty small not much to note.
we start looking for their parents but all we found was a spot in the yard that was a little different than before. when I used observe on it this popped up.
beginner dungeon. level: 1, current occupants: 2, original occupants: 2 projected time till completion: 1.503 weeks, reentry: no
"do you want the good new or the bad new first?" jack

"um, good news, I guess" Joe
"your parents are alive" jack
"whets the bad news?" Joe
"their not getting out of their dungeon for another weak and a half and we can't go in to help them" jack
jacobe and sally look at each other and nod, sometimes I wonder if they don't already have telepathy.
"we will leave them a note telling them where to go" jacobe
after that settled jacobe cooks up something to eat and I go over to talk to Joe in the living room.
"I was kind of an ass this morning, sorry" jack
"no, it's cool" Joe
"no I really feel guilty" jack
this line is total BS, I am not capable of guilt.
"oh, I know how to make it up to you" jack
before he can say anything I dive into his mind, finding what I want I use some psychological magic coupled with illusion magic. he suddenly slumps down in his seat and a couple minutes latter a wet spot appears on his pants. I know for a fact that it's not urine, he doesn't have those tastes, I checked. he gets up a couple minutes latter grinning ear to ear. he suddenly grabs my shoulders.
"you are the most amazing mother fucker in the whole god damn world." Joe
"um, thanks, I guess" jack
what I did was dive into his memories and finds his favorite AV actress. I then put Joe into a scene where he gets to have fun with her, with the help of psychological magic and illusion magic. strangely the actress looks almost identical to selena, and he met selena first.
"how did you do that?" Joe
"magic" jack
"foods ready" jacobe
it turns out that lunch is a casserole. it was good, but I was hoping for something a little more sweet. I like sweets, especially pancakes.

Lost In Translation
If you're one to travel the roads, you may have heard of me. You may have heard my Names in the stories, the songs, and the whispers of the road. Perhaps you've even seen me during my travels, speaking to a bird of blue light, or on a city street, performing small acts for coin and repute. Or perhaps you may know me as the Skystrider, who walked with the wind. Or the Voiceless, a man of song without speech. You may know me as the Tutor, who taught the Lion of Summer how to fight, or the Traveler, who has walked all the roads of the earth. I am all of these things. And people have branded me a myth. But people don't understand what a myth is. They haven't heard the songs lost to our tongues, nor have they seen the things I've seen. They haven't gone to the places I've gone. My feet have walked the plains, the seas, and the clouds. I have spoken languages unspoken; tongues lost to time. I have sung to the earth, held the moon in my arms, and walked the roads that your heroes hesitate to even mention. I have outwitted Demons. I have danced with the Fae. My songs have been heard by lords of wind and ash, and my steps have echoed in the bellies of gargantuan beasts the likes of which you have never seen. These are what real myths are. And me? I'm no legend. I'm just the bard stupid enough to poke the real ones with a stick. Discord link here. [Disclaimer: Book 1 of this story will likely be published in KU by around the start of 2022, so please keep that in mind. Book 2 and onwards will continue here until they are published as well.]

But when an object of great and malevolent power promises to make good on all the promises the mages broke to him Mar is thrust into the world of magic. Mar will find that fate had something more than a life confined to the library planned for him after all. Authors Notes: I consider this to be a comming-of-age Sword and Sorcery story based mostly on the style of classic western fantasies. So if that's your thing then I encourage you to take a peek. Something I want to mention though is that the main character starts of pretty wimpy, and that might not be your thing. That being said, if you stick with him he's got a long way to grow. Also, while this version of the story is meant to be fully readable, more dicerning readers may want to wait until I move out of rough draft phase. There may be some inconsistancies with character and plot while I am still in the rough draft phase. I'm sorry for this, but this is my first web novel and from what I've read the best way to get a good novel out is to write write write, and then edit ruthlessly after you're finished with the book, so that's the plan I'm going to follow. Again, this is a rough draft. Everything you are reading is subject to change, including the name, title, and cover photo. This may no longer be the case once I've decided I know where this fiction is going and I have a reasonable understanding of the characters and their behavior. You're reading what comes off my keyboard as it's made, with very limited editing. There will be mistakes in the text. I do a quick spell check to take out the worst of the errors, but there will be some I miss. You can point them out in the comments if they are particularly confusing or glaring and I will try to fix them, however I am not overly concerned about minor errors as this is not the final draft by any means.

The End
There are five days left. The End is a miracle 10,000 years in the making that will free all from the confines of the world. The gods will soon be born. There is nothing that can be done about this. Not a webnovel, but a screenplay, submitted as my dissertation for my screenwriting degree. Sort of experimental. I have learned that I dislike writing screenplays, but all the same, I thought I'd post it anyway so it's at least worth something that way.
