《Maxing Out From the Start!》Chapter 10 - The Quest Test

After walking out of the guild, I went straight to the gate nearest to me. It took six minutes to get to it. Once there, I had to stand in another line so that I could leave the city. For security reasons, this city regulates who enters and leaves the place. All you have to do is show your status plate or ID to the guardsman. But, again, lots of adventurers live and work here, so the gates are always busy. By the way, leaving is free, but those who only have their status plates have to pay a fee to enter the city. I believe it's a silver coin...
Anyway, I waited in line until it was my turn. Then, after showing one of the guards my status plate, which only showed my name, age, and race, I went on my way towards the Yula Forest.
I didn't just read books but also maps in the library. I know the names of all the cities owned by the kingdom and special locations like these forests. Again, three forests are near the city: Yula Forest, Kerna Forest, and The Dangle Forest. Out of all of these, the Kerna Forest is the most common place where adventurers hunt monsters. Yula has the weakest while Dangle has the strongest. Also, there's a dungeon in the middle of Kerna.
Before leaving, I memorized all of the quests and their location. All of them can be found and completed in the Yula Forest. With that information and how close the forest is, I should complete them all within an hour. Also, I decided to take them all on so that I could already earn some money. There could also be a way for me to get promoted for doing them all... Getting promoted as fast as I can is the key since most low-ranking adventurers barely make any money.
My goal is A-rank. At that rank, I should gather all of the money I need after completing a couple of quests. Sadly, getting to that rank usually takes years. There aren't many adventurers at this rank because of the difficulty of getting there. Even with my power, since the guild uses a certain system, I won't be able to get there instantly.
If I remember correctly, the guild established a system for the adventurer's ranks. Quests have certain point values associated with them. After getting a certain threshold, your rank levels up. The harder the quest, the more points you can get. As you ascend through the ranks, more points are needed to rank up. Also, you'll need to meet other conditions to rank up. For instance, at D-rank, you'll need to complete Escort-type quests to rank up to C-rank. To rank up after that, you'll need to complete Monster Subjugation-type quests.
Anyway, I increased my speed attribute by releasing my limiter and zoomed through the land over to the Yula Forest. I made sure to adjust my power so that I wouldn't be destructive or create any explosions. Since most of the road is preoccupied with travelers and other adventurers, I had to make a detour by traveling through the grassland. The time difference wasn't that different...
After running for ten minutes, I reach the entrance of the forest. Although this is my first time being outside of the town, it doesn't feel that much different. The grass all around is a perfect green color with various colored flowers in random spots. I went out of the West Gate, which leads to this forest and is along the Royal City route. Due to this, the main road is always busy with people on it. There are two other gates inside the town, the South and East gate. There's a North gate too, but the nobility only uses it...

The South gate will take you to Kerna Forest, while the East gate will take you to the Dangle Forest. All three of these roads are connected to Noble's road, leading to the North gate. Nobles are the only ones allowed to use that road; however, since the commoner's roads are slightly faster, many nobles use them and use the noble roads to get inside towns.
For the West Gate, grasslands extend on both sides of the road. If you continue down the left side, you'll eventually find yourself at a large lake. You can see the lake on the road too. The lake is large enough to be reached from traveling on the South Gate's road. The Yula forest is on the right side of the road. After a while of traveling on the main road, the road branches out and takes you to one of the various entrances of the forest. If you continue down the road for various kilometers, you'll end up at the Royal City. If I remember correctly, it'll take almost a week to get there since a large mountain blocks halfway.
Anyway, I'm now inside the forest, ready to begin the quests. Like I said before, half of the quests are gathering-types while the others are hunting-types. They all seem pretty easy too...
> Collect 3 bundles of Common Medical Herbs.
> Collect 3 bundles of Common Green Sprouts.
> Collect 3 bundles of Common Blue Reapers.
> Collect a bundle of Uncommon Medical Herbs.
> Collect a bundle of Uncommon Red Sprouts.
> Collect a bundle of Uncommon Red Reapers.
> Kill and harvest three Goblins.
> Kill and harvest three Slimes.
> Kill and harvest three Small Boars.
> Kill and harvest a Medium Boar.
> Kill and harvest a Small Carno-Bird.
> Kill and harvest a Small Leecher.
There are various types of quests, as you may have seen. The most common types are Gathering-Type and Hunting-Type. As the name implies, Gathering-Type quests involve the user to gather herbs or special flowers, while Hunting-Type quests require the user to hunt various monsters. There are also Monster Subjugation-Type and Escorting-Type quests. Again, as the name implies, Escorting-Type quests require the user to escort merchants or nobles through the land. Monster Subjugation-Type quests are a bit different. They require the user to hunt loads of monsters; however, this is typically done at a large party.
Within these types, quests have certain rankings to them, which determines their difficulties. For example, Hunting-Type and Monster Subjugation-Type quests use the monsters individuals rank. Also, the guild adds special tags to help adventurers depict which monster they are actually hunting for. For instance, I need to hunt for both a medium and small boar. In this case, both are F-rank monsters, but their size determines which monster it actually is...
The others use a special ranking. For Gathering-Type quests, it's the rarity of the flowers or herbs. Also, the location of which they spawn or are seen is largely impacted. To make it easier, the guild names the quest after them. For instance, the reapers I'm finding have the tags uncommon and common. Although the tags are un-needed, it helps tell the adventurer how rare the plants are. With that information, adventurers can determine if they want to take the quest or not.
Escorting-Type quests don't have these tags but have their estimated duration instead. Also, if the traveling path contains any hard structures or is in a monster-infested zone, the note section will inform the person. This way, adventurers will know what to expect during their travels. Also, if there is a bandit camp nearby, the guild will notify you before you accept it or raise the quest's rank accordingly. Most of the time, it's a party of five for these quests.

Anyhow, all of these quests that I have are low and should be really easy. Although some of them have the uncommon tag, there are still a bunch of them. I first start doing the Gathering-Type quests by running through the forest and picking all the required flowers. This only took me five minutes since I only needed a couple of bundles. (Five or so flowers in each bundle). Luckily there were no monsters, so it was faster than normal...
After making sure I have all the required flowers, I switch over to the Hunting-Type quests. I had to adjust my speed attribute to precisely move around; however, still being at almost inhuman speeds. Using my scan skill, I scan the area around for all of the nearby monsters.
"Scan - Three Kilometers!"
After looking at the nearby presences, I rush towards my targets and ambush them with my fists. Unlike with those wolves, my punches don't eradicate the targets. My first target was a group of goblins. Although they are in a group, my speed is too fast for them to handle, so they cannot respond in time. I swing my fist on the back of one, which sends them flying into a tree. I quickly head to the back of another and repeat. Luckily, the impacting force of my fist and the trees caused the goblins to go unconscious, with one having been killed. For proof, I have to bring a piece of its body. For goblins, I need the ears...
Sadly, I don't have a knife, so I can't use my Dismantle skill. After thinking for a second, I came up with another idea - magic. I haven't fully tested out my magic abilities or flexibility. Even though I don't have a knife, I'll be able to use wind magic as I had one. Nodding, I move over to one of the goblins and cast a spell.
"Wind Cutter - Level 3!"
Again, you need to say what level you want to use, or otherwise, the skill will go at max level. If I did that, the ground underneath the Goblin might get cut deeply as well... I didn't know which level to use, so I just went and used the third level. By the way, Wind Cutter is one of the basic magic skills...
Anyway, the skill activated, throwing a sharp, blade-like blast of wind from my hand towards the goblin's ear. Unfortunately, due to the skill not being high enough, the blade of wind wasn't as sharp nor fully blade-like as it could have been. That said, it was enough to cut through the goldin's ear. So, nodding to myself, I continue using the skill, though at a higher level, on the other goblins, cutting off their ears and heads. Afterward, I put their bodies inside my storage skill, which is also where the flowers are.
After stuffing the bodies and ears inside the black hole, I deactivate the skill by saying close and move on to my next prey - slimes. Slimes are the most common monster in this forest and are also the easiest to kill. Using my fists, I could squish them instantly; however, I would be splashed in slime goop. So instead, I am using Wind Cutter to slice through the slimes. You need to get rid of their core for these monsters by either breaking it or removing it from their bodies. After killing them, their bodies start to evaporate, leaving a crystal in its body's path. Slimes also drop a fragment of its core which is used as proof.
After killing the required amount of slimes, I move on to the rest of the monsters on my list. Using my wind magic skill, I was able to kill them all without any problems. In summary, the boars were easy to deal with. By cutting off their heads, the fight is instantly won. You have to use range attacks to fight Carno-Birds, which are smallish birds similar in look at a roster. They can fly, so you'll have to either come from behind and slice them or use some form of range attack. Again, the wind cutter skill was perfect for this scenario.
Lastly, leechers are small insect-type monsters that travel underground. They pop out of the ground when they see their prey. Using my Scan skill, I knew actually where they were and could predict where they would jump out, making them really easy to kill. In order, the required drops for proof are Boar Fur (Dull and Okay quality), Carno-claws, and Leeching String.
After stuffing everything in my storage skill, I teleport close to the town and enter through the gate. As I guessed, the total time it took to complete these quests was an hour. After waiting in line and paying the silver fee, I head back to the guild to get my reward. Unfortunately, the guild is still busy even after an hour had passed. After entering the guild, I noticed that the receptionist began eyeing me for a second before continuing her talk with the person in her line. Not wanting to speak with such a rude elf, I head to one of the other lines. Sadly, they were all longers than hers, but I dealt with it and waited.
Fifteen minutes passed by in an instant, and it was finally my turn. I stepped up to the counter and met with the receptionist. Unlike the other one, this elf has short brown hair with green eyes. She gives me a soft smile and welcomes me with the same energy she had with her last customer.
"Welcome to the guild! How can I help you today?"
I smile, feeling somewhat satisfied, and begin speaking with her about the completion of my quests...
